Candice, first your argument was that if she were more talented she would have more roles…then I proved that to be false by using Angela Bassett as an example. So what will it prove if I tell you the last thing I saw her in (which, by the way, was ‘Big Shots’ - an ABC show I really enjoyed that was cancelled).

I don’t think the point is “what has she been in lately anyway” the point she’s making is that it doesn’t matter how talented an actress you are because they no longer care about talent - it’s about who’s the most bankable - regardless of whether they have talent. And that sucks, but unfortunately we live in a capitalistic society where money talks and talent - real talent - takes a back seat.

sad but true. there are countless white actresses working, but hollywood’s always been slim on major dramas starring black actresses. the pool is too shallow to have the likes of beyonce getting all the movie deals. if i were and actress, i’d be mad too!

Lol, there are many singers who need to take acting classes, and there are also many actors who need to take acting classes. Nia Long is one of those actresses because I can’t remember anything she’s done other than “Boyz in the Hood”…..and oh yeah, she played the whore on the pool table for Jude Law in “Alfie”. I could see an Angela Bassett venting about this, but Nia Long, lmao? Her bank account must be drying up and as she approaches 40, she knows that she’s either going to have to get her fellatio game up for these white executives, marry an NBA player, or look for another line of work. Hollywood is about the box office, and when you have a celebrity like a Beyonce, a Tupac, etc., they’re crossing over millions of music fans to the theatre. That’s basic business sense/cents. The Jews in the background want to recoup their money.

The roles for black women have never been good and never will be goood. The white man is not going to give a role to Gabrielle Union that he could give to Anne Hathaway, lmao. Sometimes I wonder what universe these black women are living in. The formula is simple for black women in Hollywood; if you want to be recognized, play the maid, a whore, or a mammy. They’ll nominate you and maybe let you get to the stage, cry like a sorry slave, and escort you off, never to be heard from again. Many of these black actresses are angry because they’ve slept with every Jewish casting agent and white director in Hollywood and have nothing to show for it other than dry lips and a sore throat. They’ve tried to play the demeaning roles (Latifah in “Bringing Down the House Negro”, Halle Berry in “Caucasian Monster’s Balls”, etc.), the “I Hate the Black Man” roles (Sanaa Lathan in “Something New”) and still no reward from the white man. So now they want to take it out on the cash cow Beyonce, lol. Money talks.

Nia NEEDS to SHUT it and SIT down somewhere. it is the Singer-Turned-Actors who have helped black people to be accepted in the mainstream acting roles, whether it is Queen Latifah, Will Smith and Beyonce. they are the ones getting non-sterotypical roles which in turn helps people like Nia get roles,.

We all know that it is MONEY not Racism that keeps black from getting lead roles if you cannot get people into the theatre, no money is made, hence you would not be called back for another movie, hence no black actors.

Nia should keep quiet and continue reaping the friuts that these “singers-turned-actors” have planted as seeds.

I have to agree w/Nia. I do like Latifah, Mos Def, and LL as actors. Award or not, I am not impressed w/Jennifer Hudson’s ‘acting’.

When beyonce sold out concert tours and sold 5 million albums at least half of those ppl are going to see her in a movie and if she took the risk and produce her own movie and her fans support her . why the hate.? black ppl need to approach hollywood as a business if I’m going to produce a movie putting up million of dollars you dam right i’m going to put beyonce in it because she gonna make me money . cant say the same for Nia

First of all Nia is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! The conversation was not limited to Beyonce she was talking about all singers who attempt to act and fail miserably at it. And for all those who question why has Nia not been in a movie lately….its probably because she cant get the roles that she wants. When is the last time you saw Halle in a great movie, she is a great actress. When I watched Obsessed, all I could think about is how many black actresses could have done a great job playing Beyonce’s character… I am sorry she was horrible in that movie!!!
