Known as one of the quintessential fashion pieces of the ’90s, Doc Martens are definitely on trend in ’09. Hate them or love them, we have spotted these ecclectic boots on stylish celebs, such as: Solange, Amber Rose and most recently, Ciara.
Docs came back on the scene via British hipsters (part of the UK “New Rave” movement) in the fall ‘06 and started trickling back on runways in the U.S. earlier this year — with the help of designer Marc Jacobs. Peep some of our Doc Marten picks below. Are you feelin’ the DM trend?

In the July ’09 issue of Pride (UK equivalent to Essence), actress Nia Long has lashed out at singers pretending to be actors and speaks on how the craft has suffered due to it. Peep what she said:
Asked what she thought about Beyonce’ performance in Obsessed:
“I didn’t see ‘Obsessed,’ so I can’t comment” she says “but it’s just not about how talented you are anymore. It’s about, ‘How much box-office revenue will this person generate?’ When you see certain people – we won’t name names – they just don’t have the skill, and no one in their team has said, ‘You need acting classes’”
She says there are some exceptions in Hollywood:
“If you take time to develop your craft, God bless you. Jamie Foxx is an example of both [actor and singer].”
On the quality of roles Hollywood offers Black actresses:
“If you were able to take all the Black actresses and the choices we’ve made collectively, it’s a pure reflection of what you see on film. People need to work. But the content? The opportunities for Black actresses are more widespread today, but the quality has suffered,” she offered.

More and more material from Jordin Sparks’ upcoming sophomore album, Battlefield has been hitting the internet and has been getting great responses from fans. “It Takes More” was produced by Lucas Secon. I am actually really liking the majority of the material that I’ve heard from Sparks. The music showcases her vocal, but also has a crossover appeal, with a pop feel.
Drake – The Winner (full) – listen
Fan-favorite Drake is still riding high off the acclaim of his So Far Gone mixtape, but it seems as though he is gearing up to record material for his debut album. “The Winner” is probably just some track that Drake decided to go in on. I enjoy Drake’s deliver and flow every single time, he never fails. I’m hoping that he will bounce back from the flack he got from his video for “Best I Ever Had.”
