LeToya Luckett is back, more confident, and much more fun with her second album “Lady Love.” After dropping her self-titled debut in 2006, this time around Miss Luckett not only flexes her vocal muscles but does a good job of it—which is more than we can say for a lot of singers these days.
The biggest difference between this album and her last kicks off with the self-assured lead single “Not Anymore.” Unlike the indecisive “Torn” (from her first album) this song makes up its mind from the gate even including an ode to women empowerment and “knowing ones worth.” Penned by none other than Ne-yo (who we all know is pretty much a master at flipping a sappy break-up song and making it sassy. I mean honestly Beyonce’s Irreplaceable” and Rihanna’s “Take A Bow,” are the stuff that dreams are made of) is perfect when you’re teetering on the edge of keeping your man in your life, or kicking him to the curb where he belongs.
Another track assisting in Luckett’s bold new expression is the up-tempo “She Ain’t Got.” Despite being a little psychotic in the lyrics, Luckett shows off even more of her confidence with the hook “Who is this chick that you thinks all that? Tryna’ take you away but I ain’t having that. I’mma put my foot down on homegirl’s neck to make her see that, she ain’t got nothing on me.” We all know that a woman sure of herself and her relationship doesn’t really need to be fighting some chick too keep her man….but every once in a while we have a crazy day, so this song gets a lyrical pass for being relatable.
Luckily it’s not all about fighting your man, or leaving your man, or hitting some female with a bat over your man, on. “Lazy,” is a perfect hybrid of both the vulnerability and fear of getting into a new relationship. Other standouts include “Regret,” featuring Ludacris, which can be best paralleled to a slower version of Beyonce’s “Upgrade You.” Now I know, Beyonce and LeToya (and all the rest of Destiny’s Child) are over, so it’s not fare to compare them, but the overall concepts are close.
Aside from a couple missteps like “After Party,” which is just lame (there’s really no other way of putting it) “Lady Love” is solid attempt and has a song for everyday of your “relationship week.” It not only goes through the emotions of an up and down love story, but is original enough to dance to, giving it a few extra points on the R&B scale.
My Picks: ‘Not Anymore’, ‘She Ain’t Got’ & ‘Lazy’….I also like ‘Lady Love’….
Make sure you pick up your copy of Lady Love in stores or online today.

JUST FINISHED LISTENING TO THE ENTIRE ALBUM…SHE AINT GOT IS MY SHITTT
I am in love with “TEARS.”
I bought the album from itunes this afternoon, and I finally got a chance to listen to the whole album after the busy day I’ve had and I have to say I love the album. Every track is banging with the exception of a few tracks that I just think are ok. My absolute favorites right now are Regret (I had that ish on repeat quite a few times tonight and Luda killed the feature), Lazy, Love Roller Coaster, Over, and even the bonus track from itunes Don’t Let Me Get Away is great. LeToya did just what I wanted : make a genuine R&B album. By genuine I mean one that is not thrown together and not chasing these silly music trends like auto tune. This is an album I can bump from years from now and will not sound out dated. Good job LeToya on another solid album!
I may actually give her a try this time. I’ll give the album a full listen this week.
Never paid the girl much attention and I friend came running to me saying “I HAD TO HEAR THIS ALBUM” and I gave it a listen. As a musician trained in Opera and classically trained on the piano, she earned my support on her musicianship alone. The lyrical content and vocal harmonies and unique soprano flair of her voice blew me away. I will purchase this album at my first opportunity and would urge anyone who wants a quality to do the same. Best R&B album of the year
STAND OUTS : Over, Good To Me, Regret, Take Away Love, I Need A U, Tears
MATTER [prime example of vocal muscianship]!
Thank yall, I have never commented on a board before.
I absolutely love this album. Well I love the first one too! LeToya really has proved that she does not have to stand on the past to keep herself relevant. The trillest H-Town chick to grace the music scene. Keep doing you Miss Lady L!!!!
why does this particular comment section feel like one big ad for her album? I thought her first album was OK, but there are some really talented singers out there being overlooked. She’s good, like Ashanti good, but she doesn’t have a standout voice really…
TEARS.. ALL DAY LONG!
Fabulous album! Got it this morning. You should too!
I brought the Cd last night and I thought After Party sound great but over all the CD is great. I still think she needs a better promotor or publicist to really push her out there because she’s very talent and I’m wish her well.
i love the album….much betta then the 1st
Love the album I adore ‘Regret’ , ‘Matter’ and ‘I need a U’ the most, Its so
nice to have an r&b album that is actually rnb and not all electro tinged . synthed out
etc. This is definitely one of the better r&b albums that I have heard in while !
This album is just AMAZING!!! I MEAN REALLY REALLY AMAZING.
I pretty much like every track except Rollercoaster & Swagger.

@ gg boo
agreed! it’s like a mini promotion article cause i feel like most people are exaggerating a lil with their reviews. those of you getting mad at people who think some songs remind them of others, please stfu. we’re all entitled to our opinions. they all copy each other in the music industry so the likelihood of two songs having similar lyrics/beat is expected. regardless though, her album is pretty good, not as amazing as people are making it sound, but i like it. i hope she makes it far this time around.
Was it that difficult to keep Beyonce’s name out of Toya’s review?
^^^ Are you talking about the “Regret” “Upgrade U” comparison? I’m a fan of LeToya and Beyonce…but I honestly don’t see it. Sorry. They are coming from two completely different angles. Beyonce WANTS to lavish him with gifts, and LeToya is saying “damn don’t you miss it”….lol.
Other than talking about material things, and adding a rap feature….they aren’t that similar. Not even musically. Just another cheap shot at LeToya, by comparing her to Beyonce. Yall need to let..it…go! The girls are over it, yall should be too….lol.
@ 130. DD….I think her promotion will be better in coming weeks, because she just hired JEFF ROBINSON, Alicia Key’s manager….so hopefully that’ll help.
FYI, My comments were for STOP not ANDREA3000….
Yall need to cop this album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s seriously hot, you WON’T be disappointed.
Nothing that I can say that hasn’t already been said . Fantastic album!! I am taking a trip this weekend and will be in the car for many hours…..so this is perfect cd to jam to. I Need A U is my sh*t.
I LOVE LETOYA!!!!!
I alway like letoya from the dc days. I got her first album. Im going to get my copy tomorrow. Go letoya.
lol @ Ashanti name comin up.. I’m sorry but I’ll be laughin about that all day.. I have no further comment on that one..
This album is asolutely amazing though.. It’s just a particular TYPE of R&B that LeToya is delivering is appealing to people who love mature sounds, but also like a lil street flair, a little fun. Very much like Brandy and Aaliyah would do.. Even Monica. Bran, LiLi, and Mo found the perfect balance between pop and R&B, and most importantly found their own SOUND and delivered cohesive efforts time after time. Toya even dedicated her album to Aaliyah on U-stream the night before last because she realized what she brought to the game and to honor her on the day she passed.
No, I doubt these comments are fake or whatever.. Her album really is that good. I’m copping mine after work today!
And I guess we cant really say anything about bringing Whatsherface’s name up because Angel did it (unnecessarily I might add).. Luckily people are staying on topic and ignoring the foolishness.
Make Toya album # 1 Its worth it go out and support.
This c.d is off the chain. I listened to the cd from the time i got home at 7pm, and I woke up to it still on repeat. I normally dont buy cds…the last one i bought before this one was Alicia Keys As i Am…Please go pick up the album….my favs are Good to me, Drained, Lazy, Tears, Matter, and Over
I bought it yesterday, BTW its only $9 at Target and I love the CD
I liked Letoya on her 1st album, when I met her she was very humble.
But this time, she’s fake. Trying to be like Beyonce. I thought Letoya would be nicer, but she’s just as sad.
I dont think i will buy the bootleg wanna be like beyonce album, because Letoya is a fraud and not the real thing, I thought she was going to be real… this girl is as fake as a frontlace on Ciara’s head…
I love reading all the postive reviews and Letoya’s CD is good old fresh R&B. I love everything about it. Letoya’s vocal are so much more powerful now than ever before. She is great and doing her thing. Love you Toy!
P.S. Why do ya have to bring up Beyonce’s name……………………….Things were going so good until her name came in the picture.
I just wanted to say that post #66 completely plagiarized my amazon.com and my letoyanews.com review. While I’m flattered, I do not appreciate someone else, especially a female, taking the credit for my God given gifts. Here’s the link to the amazon.com review that was stolen: http://www.amazon.com/Lad...T6OP32/ref=ntt_mus_ep_dpi
#46…your reaching…for real!
I am so pleased with the positive comments about LeToya’s album. Listening to it right now…VERY GOOD. I am one the like vocals and not screaming!!! And Toya knows her range and stays there…pushing her self just enough. You can tell that her control and pure vocal ability have progressed. Very nice tunes…catchy lyrics…
Toya, get your outfit ready..cause girl, this is another PLATINUM album.
I thought this was being over hyped BUT i decided too give it a chance.
What really impressed me about this is that there are alot of tracks and the album is really consistant where u barely skip tracks.
She may not have the biggest voice but she definately knows how to channel her voice on making a really tight album.
Alot of albums been dissapointing and too poppy so i’m thankful this is 95% R&B with a few pop records inputted.
Keri & LeToya’s are the only albums by women i could play from start to finish this year.
Well Done LeToya on creating a hot album
Had downloaded it last week and can’t stop playing it! I mean her vocals is off the hook she really put her foot in this album good job!!
WHY THE FUCK IS LATOYA LUCKETT PLASTERED ALL OVER THIS PAGE. NOBODY, AND I MEAN, NOBODY IS FUCKING CHECKIN FOR HER. WHAT THE FOCK IS WRONG WITH YALL!!!!!!!!! SMMFH!!!!

Incomparable CD!!!!!
Tone deaf she is not!
Another lie refuted! CTFU!!!!!
LeToya was not a bad seed. She was organic. LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I agree with the posters who are saying “Regret” doesn’t embody or remind them the least bit of “Upgrade U.” They are two completely different songs, and not just because of who sang each of them!
To me, “Upgrade U” is saying you see how I can be like you (a dude) and floss and spend, so know I don’t need you in the end, but look how great I look on your arm-we look good together and compliment each other well, both visually and financially.
While to me “Regret” was saying, you done fucked up now, I hooked your (broke) ass up, gave u A, B, and C… and you didn’t respect it enough to where Id be happy. So look at what your missing out on now.
I also don’t hear similarities in the beat either! So yeah could use some more clarification of how those two songs, are similar.
And yeah I agree, coulda did without bringing up beyonce’s name when mentioning Ne-Yo, it would have been better to say ‘Ne-Yo who was responsible for “Irreplaceable” and “Take A Bow” which were classics.’ I mean to each their own, but I just see that people know what artists you’d be talking about from the songs, they were big songs, by a known song writer… I almost see it as a diss to LeToya cause out of them three songs, hers was the ONLY one not to go number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Regardless, “She Ain’t Got…” is a hot song, Cory Bold did wonders with producing it, I don’t understand with all of its crossover appeal it still isn’t charting. Hmmm.

This album is amazing. ..LeToya really stepped it up vocally. I bought a copy from the store n downloaded it from Amazon. ……go get the album people!!
I got the album too but I downloaded,…. For free., I don’t make rich people richer
From Hits Daily: Letoya (Capitol) 25-30k
I expected Letoya to do much better than this. This saddens me. Better luck next time!
I wish her the best with her album..Im not a fan..but I love Not Anymore..Thats my ringtone for my daughters dad.
I must admit this album definately surpassed my expectations. LeToya definately went and got those vocals together (CIARA TAKE NOTES PLEASE) Live she definately gotten better, and I appreciate the growth. My favorite song is absolutely LAZY that song is the ish. Overall Im deeply impressed by the writing, production, and most importantly her voice. Sometime in the world of R&B/POP the artist lean on their lackluster vocals and not try to get better, LeToya did the complete opposite. Her last album for me lacked vocal ability which made it take up space on my iPod but now Im on her like The Hambergular on Christina Millian. Toya you def get 4/5 stars for this one- you lose one star for having a song on your album that aint got nothing to do with you. LOL Still stunning – She definately needs to be nominated for a Grammy this year
LaToya is very pretty artist. I wish her much success…….
Beautiful pics, nice voice….but definitely the Sophomore slump. No vocal variety, no exciting production like on the previous album, and the lyrical content was … very simple, elementary, and repetitive. It got boring quick.
POBOI, how can you say she showed no vocal variety? There were songs where she belted, and others where she sang with completely different inflections in ther voice. Case in point, “I Need a U” vs. “She Aint Got…” or “Lazy” vs. “Over”.
As far as the content being elementary, with this album she ventured into a more adult realm singing about sex which she chose not to do with the first album in such an overt fashion. Not only that, but she has songs expressing a plethora of different experiences with love from the pain one feels with the loss of a love, the celebration of having someone good, to yearning for someone you don’t have.
While I respect your opinion, I can’t agree with you, and based on what you wrote you either didn’t listen to the album or you are simply a HATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO GET TOYA’s ALBUM… IT’s HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TOYA 09
@ 156, I’m so Hungry who said they don’t buy albums to make rich people richer. Now let’s look at this boo. Your name is I’msoHungry…. 2 u downloaded and had no intention of buying… let’s just say I’m sure it’s not because you don’t want to make rich people richer, but because you’re at the bottom of the fucking barrel you broke bitch. Would you like a wool blanket to keep your homeless ass warm? Aren’t you getting tired of running to the public library for their internet connection? Broke ass bitch…
Anyway… Toy’s album is pretty good. I got mine.
Well looks like her album was a major FLOP! CL yall tried promoting on yall site, but let’s face it her music just ain’t that good to begin with.
Terrible…. YOU ARE A HATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ Terrible. 164 posts seem to think otherwise.
LeToya’s “LADY LOVE” cd is BLAZiNG FiRE! With everysong, there is someone that can relate to it. I definately feel like she has matured vocally and is sexier than ever!
Pingback: » PARTY PICS: LETOYA’S ALBUM RELEASE PARTY IN NYC // 'CONCRETELOOP.COM' - QUALITY NOT QUANTITY
Its no surprise that a few haters would come ALL THE WAY BACK TO THIS THREAD, just to call her a “flop”…..hilairous, lmao So what? The sales aren’t predicted (<–keyword) to be high, but the quality of the album speaks for itself.
She might get the last laugh come Grammy 2010….she made the deadline, so hopefully she’ll get shown some love. She definitely deserves it.
And the HitsDailyDouble figures were PROJECTIONS….based on first-day sales. And she was NOWHERE to be seen on national TV on the first day. So of course the projection would be low.

Shes soooo lame, lil Beyonce wanna be..shes wackk no originality..this has all been done before!!!
Lady Love is a very good cd. “Afterparty” is not a misstep. The entire cd is good and she deserves for it to sell. It is well put together and truly–we can support her. It really isn’t a crime, in fact nobody will go to jail if they don’t mention Beyonce or Destiny’s Child. Letoya Luckett has been associated with that in a long while… Her lyrical content is better than Beyonce’s-if you mention anything, discuss that!
