Check out Lil Wayne lending his support to GetSchooled.com, an initiative co-developed by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Viacom that creates a platform for corporate and community stakeholders to address the challenges facing America’s public schools.
On Sept. 8 at 8 p.m., all of Viacom’s television properties (including BET, MTV, VH1) will join together to simultaneously air “Get Schooled: You Have the Right”, a 30-minute special that highlights education challenges and breakthroughs experienced by three leading figures from the world of entertainment, sports and politics; along with the stories of three of their most trusted professional colleagues.
Other celebs showing support to Get Schooled include Solange, Wyclef, Angela Bassett, Bobb’e J. Thompson, Salt-n-Pepa, DMC and Vivica A. Fox.

It`s not lil wayne`s responsibility to be positive,so he can make the school system better. The President and the government controls our educational system, its their responsiblity to improve education in America, but our former President,George Bush, he neglected Education in the inner cities, and our schools are falling apart. So it`s cool that Weezy is doing this, but ultimately the responsbility for improving our school system lies with the people that we vote into office.
Why you think so many albums get pushed back and delayed, the record executives listen to their artist`s album and they critique it,before it gets released to the public and say,we can`t release this ,this album is too sunny and bright, you gotta go back in the studio and come harder, you gotta come up with something more greazy than that. It`s the record labels that want a artist to be greazy and negative, not the artist.
not to be mean or rude but, how does his baby mommas look him in the face. i know i should be looking at his heart and the way he treats ppl. but, the laws of attration state that physical attraction is the primary attration when meeting someone. i don’t get it. he always looks high and out of it. god bless his soul
Ok using Wayne for this is just as dumb as using him for a condom ad…
FOR COMMENT #9, THAT’S TRUE I FORGOT HE WENT TO COLLEGE…….HE’S A GOOD CANDIDATE TO USE FOR A PSA!
BUT ON THE SAME TOKEN WHY DID HE HAVE TO LOOK UNINTERESTED AND HIGH WITH DOING THIS COMMERCIAL!
HE’S TALKING ABOUT “MOTIVATE”, HOW YOUR GONNA MOTIVATE ANYBODY IF YOUR NOT “MOTIVATED” BY WHAT YOUR SAYING!
HIS APPEARANCE IS ALL WRONG ALSO!
IF YOUR TRYING TO SEND OUT A POSITIVE MESSAGE TO KIDS TO FOLLOW, YOU SHOULD LOOK THE PART.
Did Wanye ever complete his stint in college? I heard he was majoring in Psychology @ the univ. of TX or something like that ….
Look at who the source is, Viacom. They could give a damn about blacks or people not on the same class status. If you notice white media is choosing who will be our icons and speak for black folks, what black folks in their right mind would choose Lil Wayne to speak about something so important that he doesnt even rap about himself?
@61 That is a cop out…. It takes a village.
This is why nothing is ever resolved because we are looking at the government solely for things like this. We all should take part in getting our community better, being that we know the government is not helping then its up to us. In all honesty Obama is not doing much for schools either, most of the funding at black colleges has diminished. Lil Wayne, Jay Z and all brag about what they have and they expect us to purchase their material but not helping inner city schools or education.
@ Kellz
Weezy never went to high school how could he be at College LMAO
And PLEASE with this BS that record companies make people like Wayne sell garbage. There are may successful positive rappers who do very well. The point is people have the freedom to sell anything other people want to buy. Wayne is only a reflection of people willing to see someone like him. Wayne is a walking stereotype and White, Blacks and Americans love to see these types of things. The problem is that the African American community often can’t distinguish between entertainment and real life. Whites can listen to Wayne and be amused to a point but they then go on to College and they know that school is important. Where as African American youth aspire to be the next Wayne and most never make it. They live what they hear where as Whites (the main people who support people like Lil Wayne) love the fantasy of it but they usually have parents who make sure they do the right things. For Black youth it’s another story. Bill Gates paid Wayne to do this and he did but the truth is this campaign will not work for the reasons I mentioned. Wayne’s negative influences will win out with the people they want to reach EVERY time. And this will continue to be a problem.
I don’t understand WHY would you put Lil’ Wayne as a promoter for education when he using provocative language in his lyric. He looked so high on that commercial its not even funny.
@61 the President and Gov’t is supposed to have everything structured and put into place. Its up to parents and children and the neighborhood to raise the kids. The Gov’t can’t control how your kids are brought up. All they can do is help to provide them with better programs.
whether he was the right person or not, mad respect to him for putting the focus on education and the lack of it in our community…
He should take is own advice.
Its a start, lol.
Its not up to celebs to be role models, its up to the parents. I get tired of people saying thinking the opposite. He is doing some good.
And rappers can’t control if your kids smoke weed, that’s in your household!
Please i’d rather listen at George Bush. Now thats some schooling for your ass. If he has a college degree in physcology he must have got it out of a box of cracker jacks. Whatever school gave it to him i’m sure is a school full of std’s
hes a drop out tho in high school which is why he got a ged not a diploma and then went to college when his solo career wasnt doing well and dropped out after he dropped the carter i think because his career was taking off
So he should have not been included in this when its a well known fact hes a dummy and a drop out
Props for putting out a positive message for once. It would be great if he would use his celebrity for a Just say no to drugs campaign too.
He needs to be schooled on the use of condoms
@27 LADY LOVE”Believe it or not lil wayne is actually quite smart lol.
Yes he has done some things that were not so smart but haven’t we all? I could name about 6 or 7 dumb things I did just this week alone.”
…ummmm okay with that comment it’s 8…
and @40 STYLEGURU”Lil Wayne has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology
….even though he comes off as not being the brightest bulb in the bunch, he’s pretty intelligent.”
…(sigh)….just because you have knowledge of a subject or a degree it means SH*T if it ain’t applied in a positive way. If i went and got a bachelors degree in 5 different areas then i got knocked up back to back 5 times with five different men…am i smart? would you want me to be a spokesperson for you, your kids, your f*ckin dog? It’s saying you can smoke/get high, drink, and have sex with as many people as possible PUBLICLY…but as long as you stay in school….it’s iiight
…somethings missing…why didn’t they play the beat to “Lollipop” or “Every Girl” in the background….hmmm, conflicting issues I suppose
