No one knows what really happened to end their marriage but it is true that Kelis will have to share in supporting the baby with Nas (joint custody) and her alimony is temporary 2.5 years or less and the reason Nas has to pay is because Kelis is truly broke and CA law states that alimony is granted to help the spouse in need to gain some financial stability. As far as the support being 44k that will be determined on 9/8! Why are y’all mad at her settlement? She was his wife and the marriage ended a Judge ruled on the case and that’s that. Even if the money is temporary she earns over 22k a month (according to the documents) when she’s not working. She was pregnant and not working her income took a hit and Nas as her husband has to look out and provide. When her income becomes what it was he’ll most likely just be paying child support.

Marriage is a contract. If you break that contract (i.e. infidelity), then you have to pay. Most people want to think that marriage is love, babies, rainbows and sex. It’s not; it’s a business. It’s a means of being legally bonded to another person for the sake of property, shared resources and children. If you want to have the rainbow fantasy then you can have a commitment ceremony and continue living together without the legal responsibilities and ramifications of marriage. When someone maligns the marriage to the point that a divorce is granted, then it’s the responsibility of the more financially solvent partner to contribute to the financial needs of the other. It does not matter what a bunch of bloggers feel that Kelis deserves or should have. The court dictates what she deserves. They have the financial records and have assessed her needs. If the shoe was on the other foot, then she would have to pay out to Nas. Please remember Roseanne. We don’t live in a perfect world. Sometimes you have to depend on others-even more so when you have children. I don’t get this mindset. If she just wanted a baby she could have gone to any sperm bank or get her an opportunist like Gabe (Halle’s baby daddy). She married to the man for goodness sakes. She’s kind of like a homemaker (they do still exist you know). Not every woman works or is a career woman. There are still woman who stay at home (which is just as hard as or harder than a 9-5 and sure as heck gives more satisfaction).
