MOVIE TRAILER: CHRIS ROCK’S ‘GOOD HAIR’
Monday, August 3, 2009
When Chris Rock’s daughter, Lola, came up to him crying and asked, “Daddy, how come I don’t have good hair?” The comic committed himself to search the ends of the earth and the depths of black culture to find out who had put that question into his little girl’s head.
Director Jeff Stilsons camera followed Rock, and the result is the documentary Good Hair. Peep the trailer above and get more info at the official website.

LOL. Definitely watching it!
I often wonder about the true side-effects (i.e. dangers) of relaxing creams. I am really interested in finding out. I think if it was confirmed as a real health risk, i’d consider disconituning the procedure…

Nameless, you are a sad individual if you are relying on your hair to get/lose/allow you to never find a mate.
However, it is sad that African American’s hate themselves so much, on top of all the insecurities we have to deal with with just being human beings. It is desperately sad! My own niece doesn’t like that she is brown skin and despises the sun when she gets a tan, because when she was a baby she was lighter skin and now she is brown - and beautiful non-the-less!
We have to pray for ourselves.

Mr. West Coast!
Monday, August 3, 2009 /
As a guy I feel some of the pressure to have so called “good hair” is something that black women put on themselves. To me Tamron Hall (MSNBC) and her short/real hair is as beautiful as Selma Hayek or anyone else. I guess it’s all about just loving yourself for who God made you. Now someone should do a movie called “Good Feet” cause that’s what matters to me most… LOL!

This would have been a great movie if it focused on all the money black women spend outside of their community on black hair care products supporting Asian owners who could care less about them. But I understand, this is Chris Rock . So why not laugh at the situation? Black people have a long way to go.

Monday, August 3, 2009 /
I’m just gonna assume that “NAMELESS” said what she did for shock value/controversy purposes. I have very thick, coarse hair but I relax it… not because I care how people see it but because its easier to manage relaxed hair than natural hair in my opinion. My hair’s been natural (no relaxer) and I spent more time maintaining it than I do my relaxed hair. Cause trust me, there is nothing like nappy, sun-dried natural hair… it looks awful guys

Cannot wait to see this! I’ve seen previews, and saw little girls in the salon getting relaxers. I’m a teacher, and it’s ridiculous to see so many little girls, as young as 5, with a non-existent hairline and thinned out hair. So sad. Little girls should keep their hair braided or just wear it out. If they want to do something ‘fancy’, flat iron it. People need to accept their hair textures, as there are many, and work w/them. I’ve never had hair issues, but have many friends that have. Women need to learn what works for them. Research products and methods, and your life will be much easier. I will say if you do apply any kind of chemical, relaxer or color, get it professinally done. So much damage is done when its done at home. Leave it to the professionals!

Nameless- I commend you for remaining “nameless”…Your isn’t ugly…just your attitude. I will see this movie-on bootleg- (only because the money made by actors should go to our military members, teachers, doctors) It’s true. Black women have made alot of people rich with perms and weave. Our natural hair is beautiful…it’s just that in this day and age it’s more convenient to wear it straighter. My daughter is half hispanic and I am going to relax her hair after 9 years…only because she can do it herself. Hair shouldn’t define someones beauty. Black hair is beautiful…NOT nappy…we can braid it, ‘fro it, etc…It’s just that now no one has time for such unique hair…and the media doesn’t embrace real black beauty…

I have been waiting forever for some one black in Hollywood to address this. Thank you Chris Rock even though your wife looks mixed and has that straight hair too. Thank ya Thank ya Thank ya.
Maybe next they will address on camera some black celebrity men Hollywood why they have to always have a light, bright damn near white wife. They will date anyone, but to wife a chick they got to have the flaxen long hair…ALL OF THEM
By the way I have always hated the term “GOOD HAIR” its so wrong on so many levels.

yeah i stopped relaxing my hair lol. i didn’t have any issues with my hair- i took care of it so it was at my shoulder blades and healthy but i started getting envious of the natural beauties that i would see. plus i wanted a change and wondered if my hair could be even healthier if i stopped relaxing it. happy with my decision. i don’t have an issue with relaxers though but i believe that you need to be of a certain age and should take great care of your hair. make sure you’re hair is moisturized (grease is not a moisturizer) and deep conditioned regularly. and please people don’t perm a young child’s hair. that is soo sad to me. my mom made me wait. i think high school or older is a good time but a 9 year old shouldn’t have permed hair. most importantly weigh your options b4 you make such a big decision

If Chris Rock wanted to know why his daughter was asking about “good hair” and “bad hair”, he should’ve just went straight to his wife, but then the movie wouldn’t have lasted as long and he would’ve ended up in divorce court. The flick should really be called “Good Hair a.k.a. The Black Woman is the Biggest NutJob on planet Earth after the White Man in a Photo Finish” volume 1 of a 300 volume series. Who the hell else would’ve put that thought into his daughter’s head other than the nearest black woman a.k.a. his wife? Give me a break. These black women have been running with that good hair/bad hair nonsense for generations. They teach it to their children, both girls and boys, and then complain when a black man only wants to date a woman with relaxed hair smdh. Flick looks good anyway though.

Typical ‘black hair’ is so tightly curled that it is often hard to comb and manage…This is the reason many black women get relaxers…Now I don’t condone weave, because You should be able to wear your real hair.

Stop perming my entire head years ago. The only thing that I can say is that I still perm around my edges maybe once a year…BUT THATS IT!!! I am sooo much in love with my natural hair. Even though at times it can turn into a curly , stiff, tanlged mess. I get compliments on my hair all the time because its wavy and curly, but I hate hearing ” YOU GOT GOOD HAIR!!!” No I have HEALTHY HAIR!!! There is a difference. If you dont dammage your hair with all these chemicals, and ghetto hairstyles that weaken the strand then you could have HEALTHY HAIR too. Cant wait to see this!!!

Relaxed hair, non-relaxed hair. It just depends on the individual. It’s all about what you like and what works for you. I don’t believe anyone has good hair. I don’t care what your background is. Hair is hair. If we all walked around bald-headed then we wouldn’t be having this discussion. The one’s who believe that there really is a such thing as good hair obviously don’t like something about themselves.

This looks good! I’ve never used the term “good hair” and have had to correct my mother several times when she says it (side eye) and I’ve been permed and natural (not easy locks either…or w/wavy, curly or silky hair, my hair is genuinely nappy and I had to do it every day) and while I’m not as into our hair and what is means and symbolizes as I was in my college years-I’m sure this doc will do some good. I wonder if he’s going to hit on Erykah and Jills natural textured wigs and weaves…when I saw the Erykah’s faux locks I was at such a loss for words but the older I get the more I’m like to each their own…after all it’s just hair.

I have always been told that I have “good hair”. It’s not tightly curled like my little sister’s hair which would be considered “bad hair” to some people. But I am actually jealous of her texture, as she can do afros, and natural twists because it is so thick.
I have come to learn that everyone can have good hair. It is a matter of taking good care of it, and taking good care of your body, too.

Black hair is the most unique in the world and I’m proud as hell of it. I’m natural and I rock it. Its perfectly beautiful, bouncy, long and groomed. I have micro locs. I’m embarrassed to see women wear weaves. They look fake and hot and its damaging their natural hair so badly!!! I don’t have friends that wear weaves because I think they’re even pretentious! Even the creamy crack (perm) will take out your hair faster than cutting it. Look at Naomi Campbell’s hairline….that is the future. Embrace your hair that grows abundantly. Its not meant to be combed unless its kept short or you have a looser curl pattern or else it will break off. Our hair is sooo delicate. Please treat your hair like fine lace cause that’s what it is!! My man can run his hands through my hair baby!
