I absolutely admire Mariah Carey and adore her, but I love all of her old stuff. She still had it until the E=MC album. “Ribbon” sucks, it sounds too “The Dreamish” “The Impossible” has a very nice R&B beat, but Mariah is singing just a little too high, and “It’s a wrap” is okay. I think Mariah Carey has come to the point where she has ran out of looks and ideas and we should just remember her for what she is… a legend and an icon.

I wish someone else would’ve done the review because Brian keeps ignoring that Mariah co-wrote and co-produced the whole album other than ‘I Want to Know What Love Is’. Plus you call ‘Obsessed’ an under-performance when it got to no.7 on the billboard hot 100 and has sold over 800000 copies? This album is her best in years.

The album is GREAT! Got my copy at Best Buy this morning (as were the 4 people in line in front of me lol) and I’ve had it on blast ever since!

“It’s a Wrap” is my JAM! “HATE U” is such a raw and emotional track….freakin loved it when Dream demo’ed it and I love it more with Mariah over it! And “Up Out My Face” is the “Shake it Off” of 2009 lol!

All in all I’m really impressed! Only song I”m really not into that much is “Inseperable”, but it’s okay. Good job Mimi, can’t wait to see how well she does her first week!

Listened to the album and there is nothing special about this album. Her fans ranted and raved as it this album was going to be IT. Maybe better luck next time. I see why she didn’t release the same day as Whitney. Not saying Whitney’s album is better but she has more attention @ the time. Everything is the same with Mariah time for something. For the record Whitney can still sing just not as good as she once was.

I think her ballads make the album better. you can tell the newer young pop fans when they like songs like ribbon, up outta my face (reprise) and candy bling. the cd does it for me after standing O. I think her slow songs are much better than the quality of what we’ve been hearing from the likes of beyonce, rhi-rhi or even ciara.

Yeah, it’s a different look for Mariah working with The Dream & Tricky, but they make an incredible team. The combination of Mariah’s and The Dream’s pen skills are catchy, whimsical and clever. I give it up to Mariah for stepping outside her normal J.D. heavy songs and trying something new.

H.A.T.E.U., Candy Bling, Up Out My Face, Inseperable and Ribbon are all stand out tracks.

I can’t wait to see her in Vegas next weekend. Holla!

I like the lyrics of her songs on this album. They are clever and funny, however, Mariah is a shell of her former self. She has the right to change but this is too drastic a change considering her lack of vocals. We all know she is capable of a powerful voice. She should get better, not worse IMO.

I think we need to stop asking our favorite artists to repeat what they’ve already done. The Mariah, Janet and Whitney’s of the90’s cannot succeed in the 00’s, especially not when what’s selling now is so different than what they use to do. Mariah knows this that’s why she changes with the industry while keeping the staples of her act that made her the legend she is in the game today. I think this album does that quite successfully, merge what we loved about Mariah back in the day, with the R&B that is popular today.

Mariah Carey needs accept that fact that she is not 20 anymore. I admire both Whitney and Mariah, but the two divas voices sound chopped and smashed on live performances. Mariah sucked on Oprah and Whitney did so-so. Let me not mention the GMA performance, didn’t tickle my fancy at all.

but, I will have to agree with #9 and#14, Whitney’s album is on constant rotation on the ipod but I don’t know about Mariah. I am feeling “Obsessed”, The second single that everyone is saying that they love, “H.A.T.E.U”, I wasn’t really feeling that one, but it has the potential to grow on me. I won’t totally give up on her, but I would rather the artist be able to tap into my emotions than for them to appeal to my age demographic.

Ok, girl is doin’ it again! Great music! And she is wearing Carmen Steffens! I thought I was one of the only ones in the US to know this shoe brand. Love the Obsessed Remix . . . great vibe!

I’ve followed Mariah since vision of love. People keep mentioning Glitter, but Glitter had it’s moments, Never to Far and Love will lead the way were great songs.

This new cd, while it does lack the belting that WE expect from mimi, she over-delivers in vocal phrasing and lyrics.

Betcha Gon Know has more personality in that one song than she’s showed in years. The Song is E P I C very R.Kelly dramatic like. The song’s video is so Vivid in my mind that it basically explodes while listening to the story unfold of her watching her cheating man, getting his freak on in her bed.

Angel’s Cry is basically a I Stay in Love/We belong together rewrite— it’s …….. nice.

Standing O—–is so rihannaish—like UMbrella is the SMASH, total HIT

Okay - So I went through the post here, and Im trying to figure out when this became a Whitney vs Mariah bitch fest? Clearly they are in seperate lanes now with no room for comparison ever again. NOW Whitney’s may not be sounding like she did in 95 but she definately aint sounding like she did in 05 - she sounds good to me, her album was ONLY 11 songs and each song is solid with potential for a single. And even in all her raspiness and things she’s singing, and doing it well. NOW Mariah’s been flopping all over the place with these rushed albums giving us 25 tracks and none of them stand out as a PLAY ME ON THE RADIO song, and 5 of them become fan favorites- you know what that means. I dont know when she stopped growing with her music but she devolved instead of evolved. WHOEVER SAID ‘Touch My Body’ was luck nailed it on the head… Im still trying to figure out how it became a #1 single, when I didnt hear it on the radio until after that was announced. I just refuse to believe the same artist who gave me songs like ‘Love Takes Time’ ‘Can’t Let Go’ ‘Vanishing’ ‘Music Box’ is giving me ‘Obsessed’ - her song concepts are always good but its the material thats doesnt hold a candle to her previous work, this album fails in comparison to MARIAH CAREY and no one else.
People were in a rave about The Emancipation… because it was so reminiscant of OLD Mariah we couldnt help but listen. The entire album was like Butterfly pt2 - in a good way. The songs were good, she was SINGING, and she didnt sound like she’d just been in a comma for 20 years. Mariah was fresh and innovative on the album. This one shes trying but not doing. NOW I actually like The Dream, but I don’t think he was a good pair for doing Mariah’s entire LP. Thats like Ryan Leslie doing an entire Celine Dion album… like for real. A couple of songs maybe… but where’s Babyface, Darkchild, JD, NeYo, Timbaland, The Neptunes - somebody else hell. NOW the Dream has my vote on working with Janet all the way but soley the QUINCEY JONES of this album I THINK NOT.

I like MC. I only wish she’d go back to that STRONG voice she had when she first came out. I am tired of the little girl whispering sound. She has way too much voice to keep doing this. It’s like someone told her never to really let loose again or else…

Sure I grant that Mariah’s album flows better than whitney’s did, but Whitney was definitely better. But the Memiors is way better than E=MC2. My favorite songs are H.A.T.E.U., The Impossible, Angels Cry, Betcha Gon’ Know, and Ribbon. But on a side note, I think its tired that we keep down talking how these singers can’t sing. Their getting older and their voices are not going to be the same like when they were in their twenties. No one is complaining about Barbara and the rest of those divas who keep putting out albums.

I completely agree with Dude-N-Htown, the songs on the album are “lulla-buby-ish”…sing-a-song types with no depth or range…in fact those who know Mariah way back would agree that this will appeal to her newer younger fans but older fans want that voice back and they’ve done sumthing on that voice with instrumants and some technical arrangements that seem to “HIDE ” IMPERFECTIONS e.g that she cant blow like she used to, on “vision of love” or “anytime you need a friend”..so what she can do is just squick or whisper over safe ear friendly arrangements..in fact the way she throw her famous “voice whistle”(donno what u call it she did it best on “emotions” ) she is just trying to tell us its still there but come on…IF SHE CAN STILL BLOW it then they should have given her that chance , and she should have come up with a serious adult ballad or two ) instead of opting for teen-safe sound..(she almost manages to showcase the voice..with “I wanna know what love is”..which is a COVER.anyways.and that means she got lazy.I’m really dissapointed…I WISH SHE COULD GO BACK TO TOMMY MOTOOLA instead of trying to stay twelve year old with a 28yr old…I frankly cant see myself attending her concert and listening to her perfom these word-count type of songs that are full of street-hyped expressions and disses inf act she’s reminding me of R.Kelly who doesnt want to accept his age

AT LEAST WHITNEY WAS HONEST..1STLY.she confessed that Clive Davis pulled her out when she didnt think she could do it..2ndly She is singing from the heart because we can tell that her voice has seen some troubles and she aint trying to hide it with technical arrangemnts and autotunes and whatever else money can buy..and thirdly she obvioulsy sings with no care about being reviewed, which results in a honest singing with no hysterics and gimmicks like a well worn t-shirt…(even thought the songs are not that great)

I don’t know what crack you people are on or maybe its a testament to the amazing talent that Mariah has for you all to say her voice is gone. Granted her voice isn’t at it’s peak even a diminished Mariah is a greater singer then most people. If you listen to angels cry the last belt at the end is old school vocal power.

The funny thing is at the start of Mariahs career they labeled her with “over singing” which basically faulted her for having a powerful voice and being able to do vocal acrobatics and when time brought her voice down a notch or two all of a sudden they want the old Mariah back. People use to complain that they hate when she is “yelling at the top of her lungs” now that she mixes it up they say she “whispers”. Damn people aren’t ever happy.

This woman has an amazing talent for melody but no one ever appreciates that. Take any Mariah song and any beyonce, whitney, christina song and actually compare the melodies and the ability to glide up and down the scale with ease and you would appreciate Mariahs talent. Where as most singer flatline when they sing this is a woman who is able to do richter scale singing all the while sounding cohesive and melodic.

I’ve come to realize that human nature is sick. People would find fault with perfection for being perfect.

This album was a total disappointment! She not even signing she sound like she is talking. Maybe it is time for her to chill out and have a family!

I guess it’s just me but I did not like any of the songs above posted. Her voice does not sound the same.

I got the CD the first day it came out! I LUV LUV LUV LUV it! All the songs on there are GREAT! they could have left off all the remixes of Obessed. You go MC. FAN 4 LIFE!
