Meet Mateo. The Los Angeles based alternative R&B singer/songwriter/musician is really making waves in the music industry. After being noticed by Myspace A&R Consultant & former MTV VJ Quddus he was quickly signed to Myspace Records where he is now promoting his latest mixtape, Underneath The Sky.
Mateo describes his music as, “everything is merging together; a mixture rather than one flavor only; R&B/Pop/Alternative/Soul—Urban Mod—if you want to pick a new genre” and lists Lauryn Hill, Radiohead, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Kanye West and Coldplay as some of his influences.

I’ve been following Mateo for years now. I’ve seen him perform live once in Atlanta for “Barack the Vote” – Gotta give’em props. The music is always on point and the creativity is definitely there. Keep an eye on’em.

usually i hate artist spotlights because i think you guys could do a better job (no offense) but i like this one. i’m not a huge fan of his song or anything but i can definitely tell that he’s talented and i respect talented people. it’s refreshing, especially now that i’ve been listening to the radio more. there’s so much garbage out now. makes my head hurt

Mateo’s work is awesome. I have seen him grow and embrace true artistry over the years. Unfortunately, we have become accustomed to listening to sounds that have no magic…just thump…thump…and bump…bump–no lyrics that touch the heart and soul. We have trained our ears to hollow and simple sounds that a 9 month old baby can emulate. Do your thing Mateo, with your BLACK self!!!

Having directed Chapters 1 and 2 of Mateo’s Underneath the Sky videos and the Live at Swing House video, I can say that Mateo is a unique artist. His songs are soulful but powerful…there was nothing better than hearing Mateo begin a song on a piano, all him, and then the kick of those drums and the bass and the violin when the band joined in. His sound his distinct, his lyrics inspiring, and on top of all that, he’s just a really nice guy.
MATEO ROCKS! HIS FALSETTO IS ON POINT AND HIS MUSIC IS AMAZING!
So glad people are finally recognizing what an amazing artist Mateo is – he is the truth – not some manufactured pop act. So talented, call your radio stations and ask them to play MATEO!!
