Meet Mateo. The Los Angeles based alternative R&B singer/songwriter/musician is really making waves in the music industry. After being noticed by Myspace A&R Consultant & former MTV VJ Quddus he was quickly signed to Myspace Records where he is now promoting his latest mixtape, Underneath The Sky.
Mateo describes his music as, “everything is merging together; a mixture rather than one flavor only; R&B/Pop/Alternative/Soul—Urban Mod—if you want to pick a new genre” and lists Lauryn Hill, Radiohead, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Kanye West and Coldplay as some of his influences.

I loooove this! It’s so refreshing to hear young people who are trying to do quality music. So much of what is played on the radio airwaves sounds alike; robotic, oversexed, simplistic, etc. It’s nice to hear real instruments in music as well, instead of just over-synthesized music with a beat behind it!

WOW. Real music isn’t dead ya’ll it’s definitely out there..TRUST me! It’s just that the mainstream doesn’t want to promote REAL music but WE as the consumer have more power than you PEOPLE think. Wether someone is successful or not is in our control not the mainstream bullshiters because WE are the consumers. So how WE bring back real music is by supporting these artist who are bringing the actual music back. And i mean actual SUPPORT. It shouldn’t be just left up to the blogs to promote ppl…we can too. SREAD their music everywhere..if they got a mixtape…tell your friends to cop it…if they youtube spread their videos everywhere…request their music on the radio (if it’s on there) try and contact networks like bet mtv and vh1 and demand new artist spotlight for these ppl…the more WE talk and the more of US that do it then the more they will listen…they will listen to the point where they have no choice but to start talking about these artist and playing their music!!! WE can do this you guys…the power lies in our hands! YES WE CAN!!!

Mateo is an awesome artist who sings from deep with in, His words penetrate like sugar and water, alot of ppl are sleepin on hin, but they need to WAKE UP, and smell the roses!!! But all I can say to him is keep doin what you do, because it makes ppl like me happy, He writing the soundtrack to my life…and maybe yours if you listen

im so glad you guys spotlighted him. i shot an email some time ago regarding him and the fact that he definitely should have been on here as a new artist. ive been listening to him for some time and i LOVE his mixed albums which he uploads for your downloading and listening pleasure.

I downloaded both of his mixtapes after listening to this song like 10 times. I am now an official Mateo fan.
