ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: V.V. BROWN

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

Meet V.V. Brown. We’ve been watching this singer/songwriter/model for a few months now and thought it was due time to do a spotlight on her. The U.K. based V.V. has been performing throughout festivals and tours all over Europe, promoting her debut album, Traveling Like the Light, (currently available in the U.K.)

Describing her sound as “musical mashed potatoes”, she draws influences from 50s pop and electronica. With the release of her promo single “Crying Blood” she has been making steady waves throughout the music industry. Peep her latest videos for “Shark In The Water” and “Game Over” below and check out her official site for more info.

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 /

UK artists always come with the unique shit and raw talent. US dudes are all about their image and what not instead of just coming with hot ass music

5.

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 /

I’m feeling her. You guys should do an artist spotlight on the band “The xx” even though they may be out of your element they are really really good.

@ 7. Yeah “Shark in The Water” is from earlier this year, but that’s why I also posted her latest song/video below (which was released last month). It’s an artist spotlight, not a ‘new music’ post.

but she’s just beginning her official launch to the US this year
and set to release ‘travelling by light’ in 2010 in the US.
So on the US side of things CL isn’t too late…but yea these songs are mad old.

I love VV I got her album as soon as it was released, she has amazing talent and such a unique sound. Like so many UK artists, I’m so proud that we’re doing our own thing now and not trying to be like US artists.

Shes cool. I love her voice. I remember seeing her picture somewhere that hairstyle sticks out i cant recall where though! When does her album drop in the US?

I dont get why this site post on good music like this every now and then but post about alot of wack so called “celebs” every minute then had the nerve to put “selling out is the new keeping it real” or something like that as their background. Yeah cause lames like CL keep posting about fake “celebs” making them more and more popular.

This is different but l like it…mashed potatoes works for her! I’m definitely gonna look more into her music. Go UK!

25.

POSITIVE CHICK

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 /

It’s funny how vastly different both videos are. I respect her versatility (and really I like the music), but I don’t like it when an artist tries too hard to be diff. That’s how you lose yourself in the music industry…you can still be yourself yet switch it up (like my girl Amerie). Overalll I wish V.V Brown success

36.

janine

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 /

this is what i dont get with folks on this blog.
we’re all screaming for some breath of new talent and each time one comes along, what do we do…ignore them and keep hating hard on the existing ones.
it makes no sense.
this sort of talent should not be underestimated or overlooked. VV Brown is the definition of talent: her music is so diversified and lacks the over-used autotune! (thank goodness)
i wish her nothing but success. it’ll be good to see someone like her everyday.
i’ve had enough of the same ole tasless crap being put out

vox populi... common sense isn't that common

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 /

Woop, Go VV Brown I saw her at some of the festivals this year and she is good. I wish her much success. I love the CL Spotlight. IThat’s what makes you stand out from all the other inane and vacuous blogs out there. New artists and songs from around the globe.

@ Nicole and Shannelle and Janine, my sentiments exactly. I love Shingai’s voice from the Noisettes. I have had slight obsession with her for some time now. Now we just need the males too. I know people have already gotten on to our ‘Asian sensation’ lol Jay Sean but you got Tinchy Stryder, Dizzee , Sway, Chipmunk, BBK, Donae’o , Natty, Taio , Bashy, Wiley etc. Since Craig David there’s been a long gap in successful male urban music but now they’re coming strong.

All the UK people talking about she’s been out forever …WE don’t don’t care..the point is that we finally have access to her*pause*+ her music, which is what she wanted. If she didn’t want to be known in the US she would have stayed in the UK but as you and I both know, everybody is looking for the American Dream(take Rhianna for example)…so shut your arse!

52.

@53 you’re foul for messing my name up like that. and when I said the American dream I didnt mean the money stupid! I meant in terms of fame..and I’m assuming you’re not an economics student because whatever happens to the American dollar affects everybody world wide. it may not affect you the way it affects us it will affect your economy one way or the other. remember your country is also fighting with us in that stupid war in Iraq. the UK and the US make up the UN(united nations) so we are align regardless of how blind and stupid you are.

56.

wtf

STFU WITH YOUR BS. YOUR COMMENTS ARE SO IRRELEVANT ON THIS POST. TAKE YOUR ECONOMICS SOMEWHERE ELSE

@ MISSISSIPPI SCARLET, ok American retard… The United nations is made of of 192 states. Not just US and UK. I’m just gonna assume you’ve never left your State let alone the country. You assumption that EVERYONE is looking for the American dream is stupid, like your mother. And no, i’m not from the UK i’m from Sweden…do you know where that is??? Didn’t think so.

And Angel, a spotlight on the Noisettes, they are great.

People, please squash the UK vs. US it’s boring. Lets just accept we are both great countries that make impact on the music industry on a whole. Just to add, big up to an artist also on the scene - for those who are interested for UK talent, look up MPHO SKEEF. She’s fantastic, been around for a while and now it’s her time to shine. She just got signed to EMI Records and touring with the Noisettes.

Bless.
