HOT OR NOT: VICTORIA’S ROWELL’S OBAMA DRESS

Monday, September 21, 2009

Didn’t even watch the Emmy’s last night, but while looking for photos I came across some pictures of Actress Victoria Rowell’s Obama dress. No one knows the designer, but the 50 year-old star was the talk of the red carpet on Sunday night getting mostly negative comments on how tacky it looked. What’s your take? Hot or Not?

She is definetely HOTT for 50. The dress I would have passed on. I think it would have been fine without his face all over it.

She looks great to be 50-years old. I like Obama, but the dress is a big fat no-no.

This is the official fabric the Ghana government printed in honor of Obama’s visit to Ghana in July this year and i must say, i feel so humbled and proud as a Ghanaian to see the actress walk the red carpet at such an event wearing the fabric. God bless you Victoria, if your people are not being appreciative, we in Ghana love you for doing us proud. God Bless you!

“save the ethnic wear for the (ghetto) BET awards”.
WTF???

wassup to GHANA, i miss you so!!!!!

while im loving the fact that she is comfortable enough to wear what SHE WANTS to, i do think it could have been made into something much prettier.something to make her look like an african queen.
half the people here cant appreciate the meaning of the fabric and/or have no idea what an adinkra symbol is.

and its not a slight to them but i wouldnt have known had i not had the opportunity to live in Africa for a month.
it was LOVE
and i respect her so much for repping that dress. they are so proud of our president and he makes them want to come here that much more.
let you not forget that AFRICA is treated as the lowly stepchild (until we get ready for their newfound oil) and this makes them feel somewhat vindicated.
they share in our triumph.
and while some dont like black americans, the majority of them love us and want us to come back HOME.
its one thing to not like it, understood-its not our culture-but its another to claim it should only be dawned at an ethnic event.
(let the brainwashing continue)

LOVE TO GHANA

It looks great! That is a Traditional African print dress and she is expressing her culture through her clothes. Some may not respect it, but if you go to almost any country in Africa with beautiful black women like this, you will see this print on hundreds on our natural black women.

YOU LOOK HOT VICTORIA!!!

MY GOODNESS, WHY CANT PEOPLE JUST UNDERSTAND WHEN A PERSON MERELY DISLIKES SOMETHING, NOTHING MORE OR LESS, WHEN ITS JUST THAT!, WITHOUT ALL THE EXTRA STUFF? I DONT CARE WHO MADE THE DRESS, IT IS NOT HOT TO ME. I GUESS IT’S THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS THOUGH SO GOOD.

If we get into the politics that of the fabric, I think it was a bold statement that was meant to be discussed. I wonder if she understood that.

His face on “Kente cloth” which is actually Dutch Wax Fabric has a controversial history amongst the Africans and Dutch (the colonial people). So honestly I think it is intelligently lovely…

Nothing drastic. She is supporting her President in her original way. The cut of the dress is simple and is in the line-up of every designers collections (past or present). So it’s not like she is looks unpresentable. She’s beautiful and who can knock her for paying homage. No one would’ve said anything if she wore Red, White & Blue.

SHE ROCKED IT!!!!….. proudly!!!, I’m African!!!!….n’ what a way to celebrate yet another “symbolic_African_figure”… and to follow on the foot_steps of the “GREATS”. like GHANA’S ..”Kwame_Nkrumah.. and be celebrated’n’ GRACED in an attire??????..PRICELESS!!!!!…..*****we will gladly excuse the “IGNORANCE”!

Well, I feel that if she wants to Rep her President as well as her heritage, how can you dispute that. The dress is not the most attractive but atleast she looks good at 50!

95.

I rep GHANA

Monday, September 21, 2009 /

the material is beautiful and from GHANA but im not to sure bout the cut i have loads of ghanian clothes/dresses nd the design r so much more prettier so maybe she should hve done more research on other designs then that…just my opinion but i do think the dress is pretty just not for the emmys

Victoria really wore that to the Emmys? How very tacky of her. The dress is tacky period but to wear it to the Emmys takes things to a whole other level.

Victoria needs to quit playing and get her ass back on Y&R!!! I mean, what is she doing with herself since she left the show besides parading around town looking like a HAM!!! Her daughter is dying of cancer (on the show) and she’s out and about with this foolishness!!! Drucilla come back out of the river! We Miss You!!!

@ 90. NYCDUMMY.- that is NOT Kente cloth. That is Ankara cloth.

100.

getitright

Monday, September 21, 2009 /

and not all Ankara is made with dutch wax fabric. Also the colonial people of Ghana and Nigerian are British NOT Dutch. Geeeez. Kente cloth is hand woven, it is very highly esteemed. Not kente ‘print’ - Kente Cloth. This fabric is neither.

TAAAACKY! Very cheaply done. Looks like she found the lil mom & pop cloth store where bolts come $6 a yard then let her home-ec teacher make the dress. Do you see the hemlines??? Do you see that half of Obama’s face((which is right near her ass by the way)) is cut off??? Whaaaaaaaat was she thinking?????? Whoever cut that dress out is a blind person. Bad idea. Bad look. Just…bad!

Big up the Ghanaians and all my Africans. I love my country.
Well It ddn’t need Obama’s face all over it cos that was kinda 08 but the print is lovely. My mum would’ve added a big ass headscarf or something. She looks happy and clearly had the confidence to rock it so I’m not mad at all.

No way is she 50 :O wow.

@ 104.. well I’m guessing most ( not all) people who come on this site are black therefore their ancestors are from Africa. Where else does African American or Afro-Caribbean come from. Just because a lot of us live in the Western world doesn’t mean we don’t know our heritage.

wassup my African sistas! (im Nigerian)

i do like the dress. the print is really nice. it mighta been better w/o Obama all over it. but she reppin Ghana & the president so go Victoria.

still, i hate to say it but that dress wasnt really right for the occassion. theres a time & place for everything. but if she wants to wear (which she obviously did) then more power to her.

i wouldnt call it tacky tho. maybe a lil tacky that she wore to the emmys, but not a tacky dress

Im all for it….I think the dress is beautiful! What a way to tell those who hate our President because he is great black man who knows his shit to kiss my ass. Through out all the negativity, hatred and disrespect this dress is letting people know we are still behind our President and we love and support him.
