HOT OR NOT: VICTORIA’S ROWELL’S OBAMA DRESS

Monday, September 21, 2009

Didn’t even watch the Emmy’s last night, but while looking for photos I came across some pictures of Actress Victoria Rowell’s Obama dress. No one knows the designer, but the 50 year-old star was the talk of the red carpet on Sunday night getting mostly negative comments on how tacky it looked. What’s your take? Hot or Not?

BRAPPPP!!! Ghana all the way!

No it looks ok but hey she wants to show off her heritage she mite be Ghanaian, as the symbols are ghanaian and the akwaaba means welcome.

of course white ppl who run the awards do not know african fashion so tacky will come to mind. she looks confident enough to show it off and obviously she is still supporting obama.
With love <3

I agree with No. 3 and 6. In Africa, we “draw” our leaders faces on Fabric and make clothing out of it. To those who are non-africans it would obviously look tacky. But that’s our heritage and we love it. These type of African fashion is normally worn at special events. I would’ve thrown in a head scarf as well. She looks beautiful.

I lke the dress but not for the Emmy’s. Like she could’ve worn this to the MTV awards, or the Kids Choice awards..which are more casual events. The Emmys and Grammys are more classy and glamorous. The real question is why does she always look like she’s about to burst into tears. Hasn’t she heard of concealer?

Definitely a Ghanaian print, but I do think the dress could have been made SOOOOO much better than this frumpy ass thing. the style is a yawn, the print has been worn by so many other people, so I hope she didnt think she was rocking something new.

the dress itself and the fact she’s repping ghana is fine….but why is obama’s face plastered over the dress? i will never understand the extreme degree of how fanatical people are being. i’m not against obama, but this is getting out of hand. he’s in office…got it? HE’S IN OFFICE…no longer campaigning lol.

She should have save that for the BET awards. I love victoria but for the red carpet thats a little bit out of place. For me that dress is off base. Maybe she should wear it to one of those tea parties. She could maybe wear it to the white house. Or maybe the first lady could wear it to bed as a night gown. But the red carpet. Or maybe she could just wrap it up and send it as a gift to ex President Bush in he can give it to his wife as a gift, she did say she love the OBAMA’S or was that a lie. lmao

i would be embarrassed if i were barack. they are stamping his face on everything.

if she were going to do something to show praise and admiration toward barack at least be creative.

angel, the designer is unknown because THERE IS NO DESIGNER. it was a do it yourself item:)

Don’t hate. You all know that if you looked that good at 50 (plastic surgery or not), you’d say nothing but good things.

While I appreciate the Obama love, I think this particular awards show may not have been the best venue to showcase it’s originality.

On the plus side, she is still tastefully covered up, and, if anything, at least people are talking about her.

First of all this chick is 50 and looks hot to death so stop the hating.
Second of all…she is at the Emmy’s at not us so she can wear what she wants! Ive been taught that if they are saying good things about you cool..if they are saying bad things cool…at least they are talking about you …which is a little bit more than we can say about most of us looking at Concreteloop instead of actually attending the events.
Thirdly, President Obama is NOT 2008…he is timeless. So now that the “hype” is over we shoudl stop rocking for President Obama? I think not…we need to rep harder than ever! I was rocking my Pres Obama earrings the day after his address to the Senate….and Im gonna rock them to the grave.

I love her confidence to step outside the norm. Do your thing Mama!

I LOOOVE THIS DRESS. She looks madd fly. Any TRUE “AFRICAN” American would have an appreciation for this dress. But see when your brainwashed and caught up in a Tradtional American- Society- Beauty -Fashion- state of mind then of course you will find something like her dress awful…

but if it was stamped with GUCCI, CHRISTIAN LOUTBOUTIN OR PRADA THIS..THEN LIKE the typical “black” american yall would be awin and sayin how fly she is……smh. truly shows the state of mind of most YOUNG “AFRICAN” AMERICANS.

I love how shes reppin OUR FASHION not too many of our ppl seem to be proud of there background…and I most certainly love the fact that our PRESIDENT IS ALL OVER THAT DRESS. So what if shes rockin that dress to an PREDOMINATELY ALL WHITE AMERICAN AWARDS SHOW….THAT WAS MAKE HER DRESS OF CHOICE EVEN BETTER. ONCE AGAIN I LOVE IT.

“save the ethnic wear for the (ghetto) BET awards”.
WTF???

wassup to GHANA, i miss you so!!!!!

while im loving the fact that she is comfortable enough to wear what SHE WANTS to, i do think it could have been made into something much prettier.something to make her look like an african queen.
half the people here cant appreciate the meaning of the fabric and/or have no idea what an adinkra symbol is.

and its not a slight to them but i wouldnt have known had i not had the opportunity to live in Africa for a month.
it was LOVE
and i respect her so much for repping that dress. they are so proud of our president and he makes them want to come here that much more.
let you not forget that AFRICA is treated as the lowly stepchild (until we get ready for their newfound oil) and this makes them feel somewhat vindicated.
they share in our triumph.
and while some dont like black americans, the majority of them love us and want us to come back HOME.
its one thing to not like it, understood-its not our culture-but its another to claim it should only be dawned at an ethnic event.
(let the brainwashing continue)

LOVE TO GHANA

If we get into the politics that of the fabric, I think it was a bold statement that was meant to be discussed. I wonder if she understood that.

His face on “Kente cloth” which is actually Dutch Wax Fabric has a controversial history amongst the Africans and Dutch (the colonial people). So honestly I think it is intelligently lovely…

Nothing drastic. She is supporting her President in her original way. The cut of the dress is simple and is in the line-up of every designers collections (past or present). So it’s not like she is looks unpresentable. She’s beautiful and who can knock her for paying homage. No one would’ve said anything if she wore Red, White & Blue.

wassup my African sistas! (im Nigerian)

i do like the dress. the print is really nice. it mighta been better w/o Obama all over it. but she reppin Ghana & the president so go Victoria.

still, i hate to say it but that dress wasnt really right for the occassion. theres a time & place for everything. but if she wants to wear (which she obviously did) then more power to her.

i wouldnt call it tacky tho. maybe a lil tacky that she wore to the emmys, but not a tacky dress

Im all for it….I think the dress is beautiful! What a way to tell those who hate our President because he is great black man who knows his shit to kiss my ass. Through out all the negativity, hatred and disrespect this dress is letting people know we are still behind our President and we love and support him.
