Check out the new single from Boyz II Men, entitled “Open Arms,” produced by American Idol and MTV’s ABDC, Randy Jackson. The new single is from their upcoming ninth studio album, Love and was also covered by Mariah Carey and an original song from the rockband Journey.
Love is set for release on November 10th and like their previous album, will be produced by entirely by themselves and Randy Jackson.
This is their third cover album following Throwback, Vol. 1 and Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville USA released in 2004 and 2007 respectively. The album will be composed of love songs.

Yeah I believe Mariah should’ve kept this song also cause she has the voice to carry this type of ballad. Im glad they’re back on the scene because rnb is really slacking. I wont be shocked if Jodeci and Keith Sweat pop up soon lol.

Um, Mariah was not the first to record this song, it was Journey back in the 80′s. And Mariah did “keep” this song, it was on her Daydream album back in the 90′s. BTW, I LOVE this song…
Mariah did record and is on one of her albums from the 90s Giselle and JStBreal

Yea…like a few people ahead of me said…this is originally Journey, NOT Mariah. Gotta get that straight, please! Journey really sings it GREAT, although Mariah does do a good cover. She wishes she were the original singer of “Open Arms.” Haha…
As much as I’ve loved Boyz II Men over the years, I’m disappointed in this cover…it’s lacking compared to Journey and Mariah, in my opinion.

i should also point out that Randy Jacksn was guitarist of the same band Journey. Mariah is just pribably the most memorable cover of it. i like this boyz ii men version too.

This is originally JOURNEY’S song not Mariah’s! I thought EVERYONE knew that. I mean, this song is a classic, and still gets played alllllll the time. I never hear Mariah’s version anywhere except youtube.

I was, am, and always will be a Boyz II Men fan. Groups like this with actual talent/vocals are rarities nowadays.

Nice cover. I Love Boyz II Men. They killed them Motown hits, that was a great cover album, one of the best I’ve heard. As a fan of good music I’ll pick up the album, I prefer great singers over people straining and screeching like a a cat in heat.

Some songs shouldn’t be re-done! Steve Perry (from Journey) owns this record…no one will ever sing this record as good as SP did. SP wrote the song so it was his sincere emotion.
Boys to Men will always be the truth but this interpolation isn’t working for me. If you’ve heard the original (and have an open mind) you’d understand why.
I never heard the Mariah Carey version but I assume it probably has way to many runs and adlibs that she can’t duplicate live. MC is not the truth as of late. Vision of Love MC was the truth.

I have always loved this song. They did a pretty good job. Nothing tops the original but they held their own. Whatever they come out with I am going to buy. Because if we don’t start supporting true RnB we will continue to get bombarded with this terrible music.
