NEW MUSIC: JANET JACKSON - “MAKE ME“

♫ Janet Jackson - Make Me
♫ ALTERNATE LINK ♫
After her performing reemergence on this year’s VMA’s, Janet Jackson has given a special gift to her fans.
Before the death of her brother, Janet announced that she was working on a new studio album, a follow-up to 2008’s Discipline. It’s been said that she is collaborating with longtime friends and collaborators, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, but this track was reportedly produced by Rodney Jerkins.
Of the new material to leak is “Make Me,” which sounds like a Jam & Lewis collaborations, especially with the live instrumentation.

Top 5! I HAD to be in the top for dis one even though i know it aint dat serious but Janet crushed it last night at the VMA’s she made me REAL proud to see her doin her thing and pushing pass the pain to do her brothers music justice, i’ve always been a rider for Ms. Jackson and i hope she has the BIGGEST comebacks to be ever seen LOVE that woman and i know MJ is real proud of her and how she is handling the situation instead of vying for the spotlight like some of the rest of their family is doing…love u janet and DEFINATELY love u mike!!

Please. Janet is just milking MJ’s death for what it’s worth, just like her other siblings. I find it funny how she chose MTV (who blocked her out by blacklisting her) as her choice to do a tribute for MJ. She comes out with a song RIGHT after her VMA performance, which is just her way of trying to get accepted by radio again.
This is just a ploy for her next album. She’s hoping that MJ’s death would bring her dead career back to life.
I guess the only two smart choices she made was dropping Jermaine, and getting back with Jam, and Lewis.

Ugh Nichole .. if you read what was written below the song you would have noticed she announced she was working on a new album BEFORE Michael died.
I thought the same thing at first.

To Nichole
When has she ever had to milk her brother? How many times have you ever heard her talk to him, she actually had a policy of not talking about him. As much as you want to demonize the Jacksons, they lost a brother, not matter what else, it’s personal. Also, she is an artist, she expresses herself through music, would you rather she got drunk all day everyday? Show some compassion.

Love her or hate her, y’all gotta admit that Janet Jackson can lay down a dance track. IMO, her last 2 albums didn’t do so well commercially b/c she strayed from the dance music that she’s known for, and dabbled in JD’s hip-hop/rap sound. She and JD have now parted ways (romantically), and with this “gift” track, it looks like Janet’s getting back to what she does best musically. I’m loving the electro-funk vibe of “Make Me,” and the little bit of disco flava is a nice nod to her late brother, Michael. If Janet’s upcoming album will have more tracks like these, I’ll definitely be copping it.

@Nicole
Did you read what concretelopp wrote? It says Janet was already working on the album before michael’s death. Janet is an Artist did you really think she would hide in a hole for the rest of her life? Janet has not been on tv talking about MJ and all his personal business. She has been quite for a while and she just wanted to tribute her brother and now she has to move on with her life. Janet is an Icon / Legend on her own which is why she didn’t try to be Michael last night she was Janet. Janet has never been the one to ride on her brothers coat tails(that’s why she made control in the first place, she was breaking away from her family and doing it on her own.

Nichole I feel exactly what you’re saying and Supreme JANET JACKSON DID NOT SING LIVE LAST NIGHT SHE LIP SYNCED THE ENTIRE PERFORMANCE! You didn’t see her messing up on all of the words? It was so obviously that they were not only playing the Scream beat, but the vocals along with it. That disappointed me because if you are supposed to be such a Legend or Icon, how come you can’t sing live anymore? I am sick and tired of people so quick to feed into the hype of Janet and praise her like she’s going to succeed. She does this sh*t every year and fails every time. She has failed three times with her three “comebacks.” Don’t say she didn’t fail because even she admitted that she was very unhappy with the sales of her last albums and tours and that’s another reason why she’s been moving from record label to record label. Her dance moves are played out and I guess I was the only one who noticed that she was extremely stiff and slow during the tribute. Don’t get it twisted, Janet had every right to be up there and make a beautiful tribute to her brother, but I still gotta keep it real. Janet has accomplished many things but THERE COMES A TIME IN EVERY ARTISTS LIFE WHEN THEIR CAREER HAS ENDED. She has millions of dollars and many people inspired by her so she can SHOULD JUST REST!
Anyway, this song has a nice 80’s feel, but that’s the problem. Sounds like one of her old songs.

UMM LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR. LAST NIGHT JANET JACKSON SANG LIVE. WHETHER YALL LIKE IT OR NOT. IF YOU LISTEN TO THE ALBUM VERSION OF SCREAM SHE SINGS A BIT HIGHER THAN WHATS SHE DID LAST NIGHT SHE HAD MORE HMPH IN HER VOCALS LAST NIGHT. AND SHE SANG IT DIFFERENT THAN THE REGULAR VERSION A LIL BIT ASWELL….
NOW TO COMMENT ON #19.
UMMMMMMMMMMMMMM JANET BEEN QUIET FOR THE MOST PART.A ND SHE WAS ALREADY WORKING ON A NEW ALBUM BACK IN JANUARY. INCLUDING MOVIE AND BOOK. JANET IS A LEGEND/ICON HER DAMNSELF. SHE DOESNT NEED MJ MONEY.
THIS SONG IS ONLY A GIFT FOR JANET FANS. ITS NOT GONNA DO ANYTHING. SHE DID THE SAMETHING BACK IN 2006 FOR HER FANS FOR THE SONG “WEEKEND”.
IF YOU DONT FOLLOW JANET OR KNOW NTH ABOUT HER I ADVISE YOU TO KEEP YA MOUTH & FONT SHUT. JANET HAS HER OWN CAREER WHY SHOULD SHE STOP CAUSE HER BROTHER DIED??????. WOULD YOU QUIT YOUR JOB IF YOUR FAMILY MEMEBER DIES? JANET GOT BILLS TO PAY ASWELL.
ANYWHO. JANET NEW SONG IS CLASSIC JANET & HAS A BIT OF A SAMPLE OF MJ “DONT STOP TILL U GET ENOUGH”.

I love this song. She had a career before Micheal died. Some people can’t just sit at home and just sit there after a person dies. I love it and I will support Janet always.
Haters are always going to hate.
No matter what Janet does people is going to compare it to Micheal.
What about those people that wrote all those bad things about Micheal and when he died put covers out and we great titles so they can sell.
Janet is family, she has her own money, she don’t need Micheal fame.
She has a fan base.

Like the tune. JJ put on a solid perf at the VMAs. It was nice to see her again.
@ Truthfully Speaking…I guess everyone’s has their on point of view, but I think you are taking things way too seriously. If any artist out there can do the throwback sound right, it is probably Janet since she hung out with the legends of Motown and yesteryear when she was just a kid. There is a freshness to this tune too. I’m anxious to hear the new album.
Also, I think technically Janet has only released two “comeback” albums after the superbowl incident. I think it probably takes a while for someone to get back in step after the entire world hates on you as much as it did her. She’s a strong woman and without a doubt an important contributor to the music industry. Some seem to only want Janet to give 110% or nothing as if she can’t put out then she should just retire…that’s silly. Cut the girl some slack, she’s been doing it for a few decades now and manages to still outshine most others.

i remember b4 20 yo came out she put out a gift song to her fans…and that was weekend…it kinda gave the audience an idea of where she was going…and this sounds more in line with what we expect from janet…feel good music…more poppy then hip hop, which is the lane that under andre and jd over at def jam were tryin to get janet into…but her core has always been pop with rnb roots….so i think they are on the right path…of coarse not a first single, but ive been grooving to it all day…this is more adult then we’ve heard from her in a while….so im excited to hear whats to come….good job team janet

I will say that the tribute was good BUT I have to agree with @TruthfullySpeaking on some things!!
I like the song,,,,,I like the 80’s feel of it.,BUT im going to BE REAL about the whole situation.,if her brother hadnt died.,some of you wouldnt be anticipating her upcoming album.,LETS BE 4REAL!!!., and ppl need to stop blaming Jermaine Dupri for her last albums not be successful…after Super Bowl and being black listed there was no where to go but down under because no one would support her let alone promote her…….
The song is a good dance song and this album will be successful only because she has gained a whole new string of fans due to her brothers death.,its sad to say but it is true……. MY OPINION!!
Good Luck Janet.,.,
P.S- Don’t be surprised if she and Jermaine get back together…..LMFAO

this is old school, and I love it. To be honest I rarely listen to “now music” that why and never know who sings what on the radio. Old jams are the best, Janet’s goin back to that.
for those of you who assume she’s using Michael to bring her career back, she doesn’t need to do that, she’s good enough on her own, Y’ALL JUST CAN’T STOP ASSOCIATING HER WITH MIKE, and as for her later albums, Damita Jo, 20YO, and Dicipline were quality cds, ya’ll should know QUALITY DON’T SELL LIKE IT USED TO. You truly can’t please nobody these days. Just the other day Mutherf*ckers was singing a played out tune about how Janet needs to stop trying to keep up with the younger artists and stick to her own classic style. Now Janet done gone and created a hot song that has a “classic Janet” 80’s type feel to it and now those same fools are talking about how she needs to sit down/modernize her sound. What the hell is wrong with some of y’all?

Also to Keep_It_100 what do you mean Janet with a modern twist? Did you not listen to the Discipline album? Another opportunist Jackson. Kudo’s to whoever did Janet’s choreography. The routine was cool, but I’m really tired of Janet lip-synching. Have you noticed she is really starting to look more and more like papa Joe in a lace-front weave. I’m glad she did a tribute but I like Latoya’s song Home tribute better. Latoya’s vocals are much better and she is the only one with any personality in the family and she was the first there at the hospital, signed the death certificate, and planned the memorial, and has since promoted Michael’s charities. Janet went right back to work on Tyler Perry’s movie and back in the studio to record yet another sex song with a dated beat just in time to make money off of her brother’s death. Sad, Sad, Sad.

Nichole & Truthfully SPeaking: Really? Sit down.
Janet chose MTV to do the tribute to her brother because it is going to be the widest medium for her to be seen on. Was she supposed to do this @ the funeral? And aside from this, she was blacklisted from MTV ans WELCOMED BACK way before this, why dont you youtube 20YO, and Discipline TRL so you can see she’s been on MTV since. Also, og well if she did lip sync, she did great, and she was paying tribute to her slain brother, you might be chocked up too. SHE DID EXCELLENT. Again, sit down….and shut up.
People with common sense and good taste:
This is a great “gift to fans” or first single, whatever it is classified as. I love the light feel, and its Janet doing Janet. Good Sh$t JJ! Looking forward to what’s next.

To be honest…
I F-ING LOVE IT!!!
I think I want to make a few points here from the negativity crowd…I think a lot of you are fans of other female artist’s out there, and that’s cool. You like who you like. But is it just me or do I get the feeling that some of you non-janet fans are a little scared that Janet has picked up a few more thousand fans because her brother died? That means more people voting for her videos, music, watching her movies and adding a couple more platinum records to her walls…Don’t get me wrong, I am DIE hard Janet fan. There was a time when I put this woman before my own Mama…LOL…but I do believe that Janet and her new aquired fans have got some of you Bey fans sweating like turkey’s on Thanksgiving.
As far as the song goes, I think it’s hott and I can’t wait to hear more. Janet “retire”? Only after she’s dead. Ya’ll hater’s ain’t gonna get rid of her like that. Lip singing on the MJ tribute? I’m sorry, but I’ve been to ALL of Janet’s concerts and at all of them I sat in the first 3 rows and I have to say that I have NEVER heard janet sing that damn hard in my life! If you remember, she made a song called” What about” and that song was sung hard, but this thing she did at the VMA’s…whew! Truthfullyspeaking #32, I think you need to change your name AND get your tivo fixed. Were you even WATCHING the VMA’s? Maybe you thought you were watching what everyone else was watching but mistaked it for some other awards show with devil worshipping Beyonce in it.
Said what I said because I felt like it. If you don’t like it guess what?
(I think you can finish the answer for yourselves)

I agree with post #61 - total classic 80s and I LOVE IT. This was something fun for Janet to do and it fits her voice perfectly. Such a nice break from all that other new, ear wasting bullshit that out there right now. Thanks Janet for taking it back to day one!

I just find it highly laughable how people are saying Janet needs to call it quits or that her career is over, etc etc. First of all who the hell are you to tell someone they should stop doing what they love. Stevie Wonder doesn’t sell as many records as he used to, nobody is saying his career is over, when Diana Ross released an album it didn’t fly off the shelves, nobody said she should give it a rest. So how about ya’ll just shut the fuck up. In addition to that Damita Jo was a platinum selling album, last time I check selling 1 million copies was a success. Sure it might not have been “Janet Jackson,” numbers but as far as I’m concerned platinum is platinum. “Call on Me” from 20 Y.O was #1 on the R&B Charts and #1 on the Hot 100 Singles Sales, “So Excited” became her 17 #1 dance hit, and also with Discipline debuting at #1 that tied Janet with Mariah for the most #1 albums by a female artist, behind Madonna who has 7 and Streisand who has 8.
Finally in this day and age let’s not get it twisted that album sales equal a good quality album or artist, can we say Souljah Boy Tell Em’. Also Jill Scott doesn’t sell tons of records but her music has more quality than most. India Arie doesn’t sell tons of records but her music has more quality than most. Sure Janet may never sell 10 million records per album anymore but that does not mean her career is over. If that was the case people wouldn’t still be buzzing about her so damn much.

This is the best I’ve heard from her since her Janet album. I think she should hook up with Akon and Red.

JANET’S BACK! I agree with a lot of the statements on here in regards to people stating that Janet should retire or sit down. Some of you hadn’t experienced what it feels like to do something you love to do. It takes so much love for an artist to share the best of themselves with the world in hopes that in return the world will love them back. For an artist their work is the greatest gift that can come from them …given to them by God. We all are gifted with some sort of talent whether is cooking, writing, speaking, building or whatever it may be. When someone accepts their gifts and use them to bring joy and love to others God is going to bless them.
Janet is a truly blessed woman, but at at the same time she is human. God will take us through hell just to get us into heaven. Who knows that the superbowl incident may have been a test for Janet and now with the loss of her brother an end to a 7 year relationship she is being tested even more. But just as it seems that you are on your last breath God comes through…when trials are tough you are on the midst of a true blessing. Janet is a strong being, I am proud to whitness Janet’s strength as she holds true to the lyrics she sings in her albums.
Let’s do everyone a favor and understand our true passions… our talents in life and use them to spread goodness and love to one another. We have enough negativity against us in this world.

LOVE IT! YAY, she’s BACK TO JANET. This song reminds me a lot of a song Michael would do. I know she misses him dearly.
