Derrion Albert, a 16-year-old honors student at Fenger High School in Chicago, was beaten to death during a fight between two gangs that broke out on the street as he walked home from school last Thursday, and it was caught on tape.
Silvonus Shannon, 19, Eugene Riley, 18, and Eric Carson, 16, have been charged as adults of first-degree murder and were held without bail on Monday afternoon.
Albert was beaten to death with long planks of wood and when he fell to the ground, he was stomped in the head. Prosecutors say Albert was “merely a bystander” as two groups of students from different neighborhoods fought.
Mary Washington, who lives in the neighborhood, said it has long been plagued by gang violence. “They’re killing our children, our hope for the future. When will it stop?”
Police said that an amateur video helped detectives identify the participants in the melee outside the Agape Community Center. The video shows dozens of people punching, kicking and swinging wooden planks next to the community center and the adjacent street. At one point, four or five males — including one wielding a two-by-four — can be seen beating and stomping another person, believed to be Albert, who had fallen to the ground.
We are living in a world where people have no regard for human life. And prison doesn’t scare people anymore, just a place they can go and continue to live and complain. Its sad the way society is, and no one is willing to help anyone anymore, but I guess they fear for their own lives. And someone posted blame the parents, but parents can do all they can to raise their kids the right way, and they can still go astray, so in most cases its not on the parent. We need to get a better legal system, and stop letting people sit on death row for so long.
I’m truly disturbed by what I saw on the video to say the least. This young, innocent teenager was beaten to death for nothing. An honor student that was quiet and definitely not involved in a gang had to die of foolishness. Now, that they have the three guys who beat him in custody, I hope they beat them like they did to Derrion and bury them under the prison.
my sister live somewhere close to this school and i dont want my neices and nephews to really even be outside when dumb asses like them kids in the video are out with them (my neices and nephew)
the person who filmed it is just as stupid as the guys fighting he seeing someone getting killed and he just video taping it like its just two kids fighting. the only good that came out the video was that the police sees some of the people who were invovled
its ashamed them kids dont have enough sense to stay out of trouble and they 16-18 im 13 and no better than this .

I tried to watch it on CNN but I couldn’t get past the first 3 (not 5) seconds of it! What the hell are these fools thinking about!? I kind of hate to say this but I wouldn’t be mad at all if the cops took a detour on the way to taking them to jail.

I am from chicago and they say detroit and st. louis is the murder capital, but I’m here to tell you that chicago is the biggest murder capital of them all and I think it should be demolished if you ask me. We are having funerals back to back. Everyday you have to pull over to the side of the street or stop for another funeral passing buy. The police is crooked and some of the parents are crooked. A lot of parents dont care if their children stay out until 7am in the morning dealing drugs or robbing, as long as they bring home the money. Some of the parents will defend their children when they know that they are stone cold murderers. There is a church on almost every corner and a liqour store right next door. Its sad and I am very angry with this disfunctional city. I know that everyoine is not bad but you can count the ones that are not on one hand probably. Its all about violence here and most of the children are taught from toddlers to kill or be killed. There is always a parent who says” if someone looks like they will hit you then pick up something and knock their ass out, and I got your back and if the mama got something to say then I will beat that hoe down to.” This is the mentality of the some of the parents in chicago. Wrong guidance and council if you ask me. I went to elementary school and highschool here and I had to fight my way out only by self defense. You can be the quietest student and they still dont care. They will follow you home from school if you look like you dont want to fight. At the end of the day you will fight and hope that the parents are not one of the ones thats walking with their children instigating. This makes me so sick to my stomach everytime I see something like this. I cry for the innocent. You can live here and make it but you will encounter some type of problem with ignorant people at some point. You cant even go to the store without someone mean mugging you and if you think to look like you have a problem with it then there is trouble for the girls as well as the guys. The females fight like men and are in just as many gangs as the boys. Just because youre from the ghetto does not mean you have to act like it. There have been many successful people that made it here but only by the grace of God. I watched this video and I could not believe my eyes. My heart hurt for the young man and his family. He was a son, brother, and a friend. I grew up not having my mother around and my dad on drugs. I did not grow up with the latest fashions. Kicked out the foster system when I turned 18. Grew up in what many would call the projects. This did not make me want to go out and steal or hurt anyone. They are fighting for what, a street corner that will never be belong to them. I remember hearing on the radio about a letter from KKK about how they just laugh at the way our race is killing each other. There comes a time in life when you know right from wrong. You can’t blame rap music or hip hop videos. These cowards knew what they were doing was wrong. This makes me so sick……..

The reason why this society does not have the death penalty has nothing to do with leniency or compassion for human life. It is to feed the white man’s prison industrial complex, which is interconnected with all his other systems. Once in the prison system, that entity becomes a commodity, and essentially a slave, which is why he is relegated to a number. It’s more lucrative to keep the black man barely alive, which is why this society is inundated with anti-black male propaganda, and is why the black male is given so few opportunities. Mind you, we are in captivity, so the white man is supposed to do these things. In rulership, why would one give their enemy the opportunity to attain power and potentially overthrow him? It wouldn’t make sense. That’s how one knows that the “civil rights movement” was a facade and a smokescreen, but that’s another topic. The point is to steer the black man towards negativity, and hopefully prison, so that he can resume his role as slave. There is a serious issue when the same mentality that previous generations of blacks had is naturally imbued in children. That should show the attentive observer that this is a spiritual issue.

A child that may not even be the man’s that she claims it is. The issue is that black people have forsaken the laws of the Mos High, which is why the majority of these children are pure devils. As “Leon” said, these children in particular, and many of these children in general need to be put to death in public as an example to the rest, and the Bible tells us that (Deuteronomy 21:18-21, II Kings 2:23,24, Proverbs 30:11,17).

I also prayer that everyone see or hear of this story and take note…we need start reaching out to others. There are a lot of people out there hurting, misguided and loss; they don’t what to do and have nowhere to turn. So they do whatever to survive. And even if that means doing wrong, following the crowd and going against what they know is not cool…it doesn’t matter to them because it all they know. This misfortune is a reality check for all of us.
We need to stop with this “eye for an eye” mentality and start showing concern for each other. You don’t have to be a parent or a relative to make a positive affect on someone else. We never know what people are going through and just a simple prayer, greeting or being an example in standing out and doing positive can help. We can do better than this. I wish someone would encourage those children, adults and community in that area.

I think you and I largely agree, but I have not indicated partiality toward black women. I castigate them as well in the statement “just because you are horny”. I think that statement is a strong statement to the morality of women who have unprotected sex with men because they submitted to their sexual impulses. Thinking with your crotch is half headed and the women who do so are being called out with that statement. So they are not left out. In fact, they are the gatekeepers, which is why the door must be closed there.

When I watched this video I began to cry… What in the hell is going on in this world???!!! My heart aches for this innocent boy’s family. What a terrible way to lose child… I hope the people responsible rot in jail and that maybe someone in jail beats their asses to death. I have no remorse for those young men and I could care less is what kind of pain they will be in. When you kill someone you don’t know, especially someone who is completely innocent, I really wish death upon you. I hope this young boy’s spirit is kept alive through his family and friends and that something good can come out of this. Stop black on black crime…Latinos you too! I watched this and cried, thinkin, “what is wrog with people these days?” I just lost someone really close to me the same exact way. Why people behave this way I will never understand.
man!! this is sooo sad and F***ed up!!!! i cried as i saw the news and saw the video because my brother got beaten to death also and as i think about this boy and his family it really really hurts!! i dont understand how people can be soo heartless and do something like this its inhumane!! i feel for the family and my heart goes out to them. the part that really bothers me is that we say things will hopefullly change and people will learn from what happened but its just going to keep happening because people dont care and will never change
I can only imagine what his family is feeling. I pray that God gives them strength and comfort them thru this painful time in their lives. This act of evilness needs to come to a stop. No one should ever die by the hands of another man. Especially by another young person’s hands over a senseless situation. We need to pray for our children’s future and pray that these younger kids gets direction from the lord. We do not need to loose focus of GOD in our lives. He should be consistently in our lives everyday! May this child rest in peace and may the lord GOD continues to watch over all those that serves him!!!

Everyone asks, why is this happening. why are so many children dying, why are so many innocent people being malled, shot down in the street or even in the privacy of their own homes, babies being killed all over everywhere that you havent heard or read about. All you have to do is read your Bible and you will see why all this is happening. satan is so busy in the lives of Our Brothers and Sisters. I am a widow of 5 and 6 grands. I am a child of God, I love the Lord with all my heart. It hearts my heart to see or hear about the death of a child . I want to grab them all and keep them safe, but thats not possible for me to do, but you can. Men and Woman, Mothers and Fathers, Grab hold to your babies be it girls, boys, nieces, nephews, all family and pray, pray, pray, pray.

This is just sad……… first off the boy who got beat to death had a bright future ahead of him. His future was ruined because of a group of gangbangers who thought it was okay to beat somebody to death. What did he do to y’all??? That’s what I want to know. And why didn’t the person recording the fight drop the camera and help the boy????? He could’ve saved someone’s life! He could’ve been a hero! I’m 14 yrs old and I’ve seen people get jumped and beat up plenty of times; but not anything like this. This makes you realize that the world isn’t safe. You realize things happen to you that you never thought would happen. Now I see I have to watch my back everywhere I go because I never know what can happen when I’m not looking.
