The five children of Mesac Damas — Michzach, 9, Marven, 6, Maven, 5, Megan, 3 and 11-month-old Morgan — are seen in a photo taken from Mesac’s Hi5 page. The five children and Mesac’s wife, Guerline, were found dead in their North Naples apartment Saturday night.
Collier County Sheriff’s Office investigators said Damas left Miami International Airport on a flight bound for Haiti about 10 a.m. on Friday. He is considered “a person of interest” but not a “suspect” at this point. A family member became worried after they hadn’t heard from anyone in the home and asked authorities to do a welfare check on Friday. Their knocks went unanswered, but nothing indicated anything was wrong.
On Saturday morning, the family member filed a missing persons report, and authorities requested from property management a key to the house and authorization to enter. When they did, they discovered the bodies of 32-year-old Guerline and her five children.
“I can tell you that in no uncertain terms this is the most horrific and violent event this community has ever experienced. This is the worst of the worst,” Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said at a news conference on Sunday. Foren Dieu said police told him his sister and her children all suffered slit throats.
According to authorities, there had been a “handful” of domestic disturbance calls to police since 2000 involving the Damas couple, with Mesac Damas being arrested in January, although he pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor battery against Guerline in June.
I also have to say that I agree with some of the bloggers because I have dated a Haitian man for 5yrs and he was very jealous, juvenile, controlling, and resorted to violence at times. Haitian police on Monday detained a man wanted for questioning in the Florida slaying of his wife and their five children, including an 11-month-old infant.
Mesac Damas, wearing a blue suit over a white T-shirt, was seen standing in the back room of a police station near the Port-au-Prince airport with his hands restrained behind his back by plastic ties. Two officers confirmed it was Damas. They spoke on condition of anonymity because his capture had not been publicly announced.

I am so tired of people saying that is is ignorant for people to make this a race thing. It is what it is. The black community has not been the subject of the news stories. It wasn’t known that this was happening to us because it wasn’t broadcasted, the white community has had a monopoly on the media coverage. Black people also have a stigma about mental illness, that is why so many black people have illnesses that go undiagnosed. He did it, we know that. He may be mentally ill, but he sure had enough presence of mind to get his ass on a plane to Haiti. If he is made a suspect and is caught, he will be sent back to the states to face a jury of his peers. People are talking about his wife, but no one should speak on a situation they are not in.
