Spelman College student Jasmine Lynn was killed by a stray bullet early Thursday while walking near Clark Atlanta University.
Although no arrests have been made, police have questioned a witness who was taken to the hospital after being chased down and beaten by bystanders who saw the shooting, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
“He has some knowledge about what was going on,” Atlanta Police Chief Richard Pennington said. “We can’t say he’s the suspect. We can’t say if he was the actual triggerman. He’s a person of interest.”
Two weeks into her sophomore year, 19-year-old Lynn and some friends were walking down the street when they saw a group of men fighting. One of the men had a gun in his pants, ran around the corner and began shooting behind him.
Lynn, a 2008 graduate of Lincoln College Preparatory Academy in Kansas City, Mo., was majoring in psychology and minoring in business.
another terrible, senseless act. smh
Senseless killing of a beautiful young women that was in the process of blooming into a rose. My heart goes out to Jazmine and her friends and family. I know it hurts. I have a daughter in her sophmore year too . God Bless you Jazmine…. So sad…
& rip my spelman sister. – your Morehouse brother
My prayers go out to her family…fo sho
My condolences to the family. How unfortunate and truly senseless. God bless them and keep them during this time of mourning and grief.
thats terrible….very sad
This is so Sad! this bring tears to my eyes! another black beautiful sister-gone to soon!
RIP sweet heart, my thoughts are with her family and friends, let’s do all we can to protect our children from all this senseless violence!
But how we do that with all the ignorance in this cold cold world!
One Luv Kiddo.
Black Men need to get it together.
Oh God this hurts!
This nonsense has to stop! An innocent child has lost her life because of a PUNK. Only punks will shoot into a crowd and only punks will run. Gun crimes are now the norm in this country. My heart goes out to her family and pray God will envelope her into his loving arms.
What a shame, this is so so sad. My condolences go to the family
*sigh* that is so sad
Incidents like these make me so upset. I don’t know her or the family but prayers go out to all of them. We HAVE to do better!
So sad, we never know, but there are too many random acts of violence hurting innocent people, when are we going to be better human beings.
This is very sad…. May God bless her family and friends
Oh my goodness. My heart goes out to her family.
f’n ridiculous. Prayers to her family and friends during this hard time. I hope the police get the gunman and justice served. I’m sure it will be another young black life lost, only this one will be lost in the system.
Heard about this yesterday…. So sad that this young lady had to lose her life because of someone else’s ignorance.
She was young and trying to better herself for her future, and in a split second it was all taken away.
Wake up people
i heard about that
r.i.p.
Thats so sad that young people can’t even go to school without something happening
. My thoughts and prayers go out to this girl’s family.
It’s so sad. Campus was so gloomy yesterday.
Our (CAU) campus police really need to step up their game. This is the second murder in the two weeks I’ve been here yet they continued to harass females, sit around, and talk instead of patrolling the area and what’s going on. Then they keep telling us not to speak to the media about it but it seems like hat’s what we’re gonna have to do in order for them to step up. There is NO EXCUSE for the Atlanta Police Department responding faster than CAU Police. Our campus is not big at all.
My Prayers goes out to her family and friends!!
This is such a senseless tragedy. She was so young. Her family must really be suffering.
So sad and senseless. God Bless her soul.
Damn shame. Can’t even go to college in peace.
R.I.P.
Very very sad. May God bless your family sweetie in may you rest in peace. Gone to soon. I hope in pray they get the animal or animals that did this. You send your children off to college in this terrible terrible tragedy happens. This is unexceptible, ATL you really need to handle this. Such a beautiful young woman just trying to live her life in do the right thing, she’s very much in angel now she is safe. HBCU my ass if you want to shout something out shout GOD cause he is truly watching in it want be long before he answer. Family I know its hard but please dont lose your faith. Because if you do they win the devil wins in we want allow that. R.I .P angel in pray for your family in all of us.
Should have gone to a real university.
smh. im so sick of hearing stories about people losing their lives for no sensible reason. and im willing to bet that whatever they were arguing about was something so simple.
my heart hurts when i read about stories like this. ridiculous
@26 thats heartless
what do you mean “should have gone to a real university”?
Spelman is the number one historically black college in the country. It is a great school and things like this can happen anywhere. Remember the unfortunate event that took place at Virginia Tech? A prime example of senseless violence. We just all have to be aware EVERYWHERE we go. It’s crazy how this world is. Yesterday was a sad day here at Spelman.
I hope they are able to find the killer, R.I.P . Such a beautiful young girl who lost her life to gun violence.
Jasmine was also in my spanish class last semester..very smart girl and it still hurts to even think about what happened to her.
@#26 Pierre, usually I dont give in to ignorance however thats just plain evil what you said man.
#26 while I don’t doubt you only said that to get a rise out of people, this is not the forum to say such cold and petty things. Why don’t you step outside of yourself for a minute and recognize the fact that a very young woman was killed for no good reason. It’s a tragedy. Grow up and stop spreading evil.
THAT IS SO SAD…I PRAY THAT GOD BE WITH HER FAMILY
THIS IS SAD THAT POOR GIRL PROBABLY HAD A PRETTY DECENT FUTURE
stories like this make me embarrased to be a young black man. sensless violence and killings…smh
thoughts and prayers to her fam
My deepest sympathy goes out to her family
I read about it this morning. Very sad and truly senseless. My condolences to her family and friends.
Rest in peace my spelman sister…this is so sad. Clark needs to step their security up big time!
omg, sad, I hope her friends and family find peace. Ridiculous no one has respect for life, she was just a bystander in someone else’s mess.
Dag i honestly feel like crying reading this, after all these years and so many different situations going on in the news everyday about violence you would at least think that SOMEBODY would say let me be a cause instead of an effect and stop these senseless acts of immature violence, but OH NO these days people always gotta show how big they are instead of walking away from situations and the result is this right here. And another thing, am i missing something? Are guns the new way of fighting now? OMG when does it stop?!? My prayers go out to the family and friends and their tremendous loss, smh at the world…
There HAS to be a way to get the guns out of the hands of criminals!!! Just yesterday, here in Philly, someone shot into a crowd of guys playing basketball at a rec center court, injuring a pair of brothers. One passed away while his brother is in the hospital. Senseless violence!!!!
R.I.P. to that young woman and my prayers and condolences to her friends and family.
sad on so many levels…rip sweetie
twenty six is waiting moderation i think you guys mean twenty seven. twenty seven how could you be so heartless. lets pray that you never go through anything remotely as this. senseless. rip baby girl
Too much evil in this world. smh! RIP to the young lady.
Yes they do @ #8.
Makes no damn sense.
this is sad. i pray for her family. a young woman trying to do something with her life is taken away and the person who does nothing with his is walking and breathing.
smh
Drive by’s on college campuses…
too sad.
I can’t fault her for walking around after midnight… I did it all the time. I think sometimes we have a false sense of security in our educational environments…but shouldn’t we feel safe? *sigh*
crazy thing is here in kcmo she went to the best inner city school. and this is a terrible city, so she probably went to atl knowing she can make something of herself and to get away from this nothing of a city and its violence. and now to be taken away by the same violence she tried to get away from, is a sad situation. just goes to show, no where is safe. not even a place made for knowledge.
rip jasmine
Someone’s baby taken from this world over pure stupidity!!!!!
I just cant believe common people wake up! gangbangers think they though and its seen alover hiphop and some fans think this is normal for people to do but it makes no sense!!! Those shooters should think what if this was their lil sis walking by?? for god sakes common wake up!
Some things in life are just not fair, she had a whole life in front of her….
my thoughts are with her family & friends
So tragic, my heart goes out the family and friends. R.I.P
I am so pissed about this. People send there kids to school for an education, not to get shot. As a Clark graduate, I know how random it can get on campus. They need to beef up security ASAP. This is so sad & ridiculous….they need to find that sonofgun & send his a** staright to jail. Poor baby =o(
@26 – Pierre do you mean a “real university” like Va Tech, Kent State, University of Texas at Austin, University of Iowa, University of Arizona, Appalachian School of Law,
San Diego State,University of Arkansas — and so many more – all universities where there have been senseless murders.
Spelman is a private, independent, liberal arts college for women, where more than 80% faculty hold Ph.Ds . It is one of the most prestigious historically black colleges (or is that your problem with it).
Clearly you need to spend some time at a “real” university or any university at all. Because you are lacking understanding and education.
Prayers of Comfort and Strength for this young sister’s friends and family.
D ‘Evils are busy, please stay aware and alert.
RIP, prayers to her family may God be with them and may her soul rest in peace.
What a fckin mess! Just another reason why we will remain stuck in what we made our place in the world: Last!
………GOOD GRIEF!!!,
………what the hell is really going on?
