NEWS: SPELMAN COLLEGE STUDENT SLAIN

Spelman College student Jasmine Lynn was killed by a stray bullet early Thursday while walking near Clark Atlanta University.

Although no arrests have been made, police have questioned a witness who was taken to the hospital after being chased down and beaten by bystanders who saw the shooting, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

“He has some knowledge about what was going on,” Atlanta Police Chief Richard Pennington said. “We can’t say he’s the suspect. We can’t say if he was the actual triggerman. He’s a person of interest.”

Two weeks into her sophomore year, 19-year-old Lynn and some friends were walking down the street when they saw a group of men fighting. One of the men had a gun in his pants, ran around the corner and began shooting behind him.

Lynn, a 2008 graduate of Lincoln College Preparatory Academy in Kansas City, Mo., was majoring in psychology and minoring in business.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jasmine’s friends and family.

…….RIP Jasmine Lynn, this world is a crazy place! My baby started school last week, and it is so sad to know that this is happening all over. We have to stay covered with the full armor of God!!!!!

  2. I want french fries with no french

NOOOOO!!! The lil’ muthaf*cka gonna get his. Black males ( not men) always gotta go acting the fool and hurting innocent people. Poor child and Im heartbroken for the girl’s family. She didnt deserved to have her life cut so short like this. Hmph….

That’s why when I see a bunch of black dudes (or latino) arguing like crazy on the damn street, my ass is flying down the block. Dont know who might pull out what and start going crazy. Im dead serious. This aint no damn joke. Arguing over simple pathetic sh*t too. Ugh.

Lousy b@stards, hope the right one(s) get caught and get a real beat down. WTF! My heart goes out to this lil butterfly and her family.

  4. When Will They Ever Learn

Oh great! Another Beautiful Black Woman dead because of some little D**ked stupid A**!

I’m sorry I’m getting tired of stupid punks like these who wanna play with guns and then hurt/kill innocent bystanders!

My prayers and condolences to this victim, Her Family and Friends. I can’t imagine what they must be going through!

I just hate that she had to lose her life on the way to the hospital. This young woman is from Missouri. That means that her parents never EVER got to SEE their child. By the time they would have gotten there. IMAGINE their faces. THIS has got TO STOP. It makes no sense for a HBCU University Center to have hostility and violence. At a gate, they stop you for the littlest thing, yet, guns can still be brought onto these campuses. It is a shame. RIP Jasmine….young flower lost because of foolishness.

R.I.P sweety, I cant stop crying, I hate to hear shit like this. Someone that is trying to be something dies behind someone who aint nothing, I know it was an accident, but still it hurts, to hear things like this. She didnt deserve it.

  7. I’m totally speechless on this one. Another young life snuffed out over foolishness. Prayers to the family.

  8. LadyA

I live in ATL and it really hurt to hear this horrible story. It’s sad to say, but I’m 31 and wouldn’t even walk down those streets at night. The area should be so much nicer for our wonderful HBCU’s to be in the heart. Truth is…it’s not.

    RIP sweetheart….

  9. SassyT

My heart truly breaks for Jasmine and her family and friends. Senseless murders and the cowards doing them seem to be the norm in our evil society today. May her family somehow find peace in the midst of the storm. May God and our judicial system severely punished all those in connection with this beautiful young lady’s death.

It’s times when I hear about things like this along with all the other crazy stuff that makes me so scrared for my life…. & its sad bc as people I don;t think we should have to FEAR FOR OUR LIFE.

I wanted to transfer to either Spelman on Clark for the Spring, but this entire situation is making me reThink my plans,…. And its sad…

I’m from kansas city & i went to high school with Jasmine . She was the most lively (& loudest) person i’ve ever met . LOL Always at all the parties but i can also say she stayed on top of her books too & thats admirable… Part of her reason for going to Spelman was to get away from all the violence & foolishness in KC . I kind of looked up to her for those reasons , too . That was my big homie & it’s so random that she was taken away , man . It seems as if God takes all the wrong ppl… :’(

We miss yo crazy self bein the life of the party Jasmine .
Rest in peace , girl .

  18. L. A.

Have mercy on her soul and I praying the friends come forward and say something
    Peace Love and Blessings

THE CRIME IN ATLANTA HAS GOTTEN COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL! WHEN IS SOMEONE GOING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT? PEOPLE ARE NOT SAFE ANYWHERE IN THIS CITY. ALL YOU SEE ON THE NEWS IS SHOOTINGS, CARJACKINGS, HOME INVASIONS ON A DAILY BASIS. SMH.

  30. NubianGoddez

My heart and prayers go out to the family at this time. another senseless killing of a promising young life. smh

  31. IVORY'S INTELLECT

It’s a real shame when people who stay out of trouble get dragged into the worst possible situations. The same nonsense is happening here in the UK, but what do we do about it?

  32. MzGip

…it’s really sad, but most of all upsetting. Another bright mind lost to ignorance.
My prayers go up for the Lynn family.

  33. fififj123

Why cant somebody from the Atlanta University buy up the ghetto that surrounds it and make it a parking lot. I know robberies were going on around Georgia State, but robberies have been going on around Clark Atlanta Univ numerous times but dont get the same media attention, probably because it happens so many times to where its not news anymore. Already know you can get shot anywhere but your chances increase in the hood and at a HBU surrounded by a ghetto.

  34. Jahmere Raymond

I really want to cry this is sad,

  35. JStreet

This is my last semester as a Morehouse senior and that was certainly the heaviest day I’ve ever had while attending school in the Atlanta University Center. Everyone can feel this lost, it hits home. Asking God for the answers….

  36. facebook.com/spectrumstv

That is a total lose for the community she lived in, for her family, friends and anyone who would have benefited from her life. These young males need to grow up and be men!!! Sad.

    My Condolences,

    Aaliyah M.
