President Barack Obama speaks at the White House to promote Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics with First Lady Michelle Obama on Wednesday. Other attendees include Olympic athlete Jackie Joyner Kersee and the world’s fastest amputee, April Holmes, who joined them as they watched a judo demonstration and then jokingly fenced.
President Obama announced last week he would not be able to travel to Denmark to help his hometown host the Olympics. But he said he’d send the first lady instead. She and Valerie Jarrett, one of the President’s senior advisors and close friend of the first lady, will meet with the International Olympic Committee next month.
Mo’Nique has been the talk of the film festival for months now for her STAND-OUT role in the upcoming dramatic film, PRECIOUS. She recently sat down with W Magazine and spoke about the film and the audience reaction to it.
ON WHAT IT MEANS TO THE FILM THAT OPRAH WINFREY SIGNED ON AS EXECUTIVE PRODUCER… “What do you think it means when the person under God says the movie is good? Oprah might be right there with the Lord! She done gave the whole world free chicken! That’s godly, baby. That’s called a miracle. So what does it mean when Oprah Winfrey says, ‘This is good’? Then the world – not just America, the world – says, ‘It’s good.’”
ON WATCHING A SCREENING OF PRECIOUS ALONGSIDE THE “TINSELTOWN ELITE” AT THE SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL…“None of those people looked like us. And it was mind-blowing when it was over, to have white men in their 60s coming up to us, crying. It killed the myth. It killed the myth that a white man couldn’t possibly enjoy two big black women onscreen.”
Rihanna spotted out and about in Soho while wearing a see-through black tank top revealing her nipple ring on Wednesday afternoon. Classy.
Amber Rose, spotted shopping at ‘Barney’s New York’ department store on Madison Avenue. Wearing a figure-hugging outfit, she smoked a cigarette before getting into her SUV.
More material from Christina Milian has been leaking and much to fans delight, considering the mystery that’s surrounded her project since she’s linked romantically and professional with her husband (?), The Dream. “Supa Bad Chick,” despite sounding terribly unfinished, was produced, of course, by Tricky Stewart.
On the album, tentatively titled Elope, in addition to Tricky, Milian also collaborates with L.O.S. Da Maestro, with The Dream penning the tracks. Both have stated that the album is complete and Milian describes it as representing “independence, not having to answer to any type of ‘authority,’ being a woman at her best and feeling very confident.”
