POLITICS: PRESIDENT OBAMA’S HEALTH CARE SPEECH TO CONGRESS + VIDEO
Thursday, September 10, 2009

President Barack Obama urged Congress to enact sweeping health care legislation on Wednesday night, declaring:
“the time for bickering is over. The time for games has passed. Now is the season for action. Now is when we must bring the best ideas of both parties together, and show the American people that we can still do what we were sent here to do. Now is the time to deliver on health care.”
During his speech, Republicans laughed when the President acknowledged that significant details still need to be worked out. Not to mention, House Minority Whip Eric Cantor was seen text messaging. In addition, South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson yelled, “You lie!” (he later issued an apology) when the President said legislation would not include insurance coverage for illegal immigrants. The President paused briefly following the outburst, while First Lady Michelle Obama shook her head from the visitor’s gallery.

- South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson Yells "You Lie!"
According to the President, “The changes in order to protect millions of Americans who have unreliable insurance or none at all would cost about $900 billion over a decade,” less than we have spent on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and less than the tax cuts for the wealthiest few Americans” passed during the Bush administration. Speaking in favor of an option for the government to sell insurance in competition with private industry, the President also said he was open to alternatives that offered choices for consumers.
Much of the debate over health care has been over a government-backed public option, but President Obama said that’s not the only problem plaguing the system: “Those who do have insurance have never had less security and stability than they do today.”
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus told Democratic colleagues Wednesday morning that he will push ahead with legislation next week — with or without Republican support — and that members of the Finance Committee should prepare for a vote on the bill within the next two weeks.

I hope this speech helps to dispel some of the myths about what he’s trying to do with our healthcare system. I get really sick of trying to explain it to people at my job who seem to be a little slow in comprehending (i.e. all the John McCain supporters still bitter about Obama winning the election). One co-worker even asked me “What do you think about YOUR president now?” lol. I said sweetie as long as you’re an American he’s YOUR president too…whether you voted for him or not. Our healthcare system is a mess plain and simple. It’s about time someone had the ballz to do something about it.

Some of these elected officials are so against Obama and what he’s trying to accomplish that they are willing to act a damn fool on national tv. People actually voted these idiots in office. They have an agenda and you can bet it has to do with the next presidential election. They want Obama to fail. They are not acting on behalf of the American citizen that’s for sure. Forget about trying to talk amongst one another and come up with sollutions… they’d (republicans and right wing media) rather spread lies, rumors and scare tactics. I’m an American and I support my president! GO OBAMA!!!

I personally will be donating towards Congressman Joe Wilson’s opponent Mr. Rob Miller. If anyone else is as purple and irate (as many Americans are) please do the same. I earnestly encourage all to write, call, email and mail to demand that he be censured by his colleagues and forced to resign. He is a representative from South Carolina. Already tonight alone Miller (the opponent) has received over 24,000 in donations to beat this sham.
Write to joe@joewilsonforcongress.com and let him know how you feel.
Also, this was posted on The Huffington Post website:

We need to get back in election mode and fight for our president. The hate filled republican party just want to see he fail and it is a crying shame how out in the open they are with it. Those town hall meetings ain’t nothing but KKK 2.9. We need to help Obama and the Democratic Party build the future he talked about in his speech. The healthcare bill is something that our government has been trying to get approved since 1943 and we need to help make it happen in 2009!! I mean just here in TX a young guy was suppose to have a much needed surgery done and his family decided to wait until after graduation unbeknownst (sp) to them once he turned 18 his insurance company would not pay for it. Had they known that he would have had the surgery beforehand.

Joe Wilson, apologized ! South Carolina POLITICIANS are cave men, with NO CLASS,and this was proven today by Joe Wilson - Wilson will be out of office in 2010, and replaced by a Democrat — along with all the other Republicans who vote against the health care bill ! Republicans who vote against the Health Care Reform bill, should lose their Congressional seats in the 2010 elections. The Republicans are being paid with OUR TAX DOLLARS , so if they are just going to oppose everything Obama is trying to do, just for the hell of it, just because they hate that Obama is President, then I have some advice for the Republicans - Get out of the Congress, and go find work somewhere else.

Lisa according to the documents I found on NYT this is how it helps you!!! IF YOU HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE:
ENDS DISCRIMINATION AGAINST PEOPLE WITH PREEXISTING CONDITIONS
LIMITS PREMIUM DISCRIMINATION BASED ON GENDER AND AGE
PREVENTS INSURANCE COMPANIES FROM DROPPING COVERAGE WHEN PEOPLE ARE SICK AND NEED IT MOST.
CAPS OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES SO PEOPLE DONT GO BROKE WHEN THEY GET SICK.
ELIMINATES EXTRA CHARGES FOR PREVENTIVE CARE LIKE MAMMOGRAMS, FLU SHOTS, AND DIABETES TEST TO IMPROVE HEALTH AND SAVE MONEY.
PROTECTS MEDICARE FOR SENIORS
ELIMINATES THE DONUT HOLE GAP IN COVERAGE FOR PRESCRIPTION DRUGS..
~~knowledge is power look this and President Obama’s plan up online use your resources to teach your self the issues too.~~~
BTW- the NYT goes into detail more about the HCRP

I understand fully why the Republicans work so ardent to discredit Pres.Obama.If he can improve the quality of life for Americans before the end of his term, you can pretty much write off any white man from being the President for a long time. The flood gate has been open to the idea that someone other than a white man can run this country, and run it well.I see a woman or a Hispanic becoming a President, before America would elect another white man to office. There are only 29,000 people in this country who are worth 1 Million dollars or more, the rest of the population live check to check. It would be down right dumb to elect another rich, out of touch, and heartless person like Bush to be entrusted to lead the FREE WORLD,and the Republicans know it.

I am very pleased with the speech he made. A lot of his critics namely the Republicans keep saying his tone was too combative and harsh but it needed to be. They are still not treating him with the respect that the office commands and his speech needed to be clear, concise and very authorative in tone. As for Wilson, his behavior is example of what is wrong with the right winged conversatives. They are too set in their ways that they cannot even open up to honest conversation and debate. Its worrisome and its sad and even more sad and embarassing is that the “greatest democracy in the world” cannot put aside partisan foolishness and solve this basic human rights issue.

and to lisab, if you were watching the speech Obama was very clear about the fact that the plan is not for illegal immigrants. The plan is first and foremost for citizens, then permanent residents so please let that misconception die as it is false. Secondly, time and time again, he has stated that if you like the current coverage you have, you can keep it. All they will do is put pressure on the insurance companies so they can provide you more coverage for what you are already paying, that way your current insurance works better for you.

I guess it’s obvious that certain groups of people haven’t gotten over the fact that a Black man was elected president. This is their way of saying, “You may have been elected, but you still ain’t $hit.” It would almost be funny (since obviously they’re afraid) if there weren’t so many idiots in this world who look up to and praise this type of ignorant thinking.
I give Obama mad respect for taking on this job. It can’t be easy to have to fight every step of the way. I don’t care what the public opinion polls stay, I still love this man and support all he is trying to accomplish while dealing with idiots.

KAREN, since I’m from South Carolina, I felt the need to express to you that not all South Carolina politicians are as you describe “cavemen.” Yes, I would say that all the Rebuplican politicians from SC are cavemen, but our majority whip of the US House of Representatives - Jame Clyburn (Dem) is on the side of the citizens of SC and citizens of the entire nation and is by far not a caveman. Joe Wilson, Jim DeMint, Lindsey Graham, all white Republicans from SC represent those Americans who didn’t want and don’t want a BLACK PRESIDENT. That’s what all the disagreement is about. Plain and simple.

JOE WILSON IS A JOKE. HE’S A N ASSHOLE THAT WILL NEVER BE IN PRESDIENT SEAT. ESPECIALLY NOT IN THE USA. THE JOB OF A PRESIDENT…the President of the United States is the head of state and the head of government of the United States. As chief of the executive branch and head of the federal government as a whole, the presidency is the highest political office in the United States by influence and recognition. The president is also the Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. armed forces. The president is indirectly elected to a four-year term by an Electoral College (or by the House of Representatives should the Electoral College fail to award an absolute majority of votes to any person).

Do Americans not realise that almost every single country in the world has made provisions for health care, transportation, etc. for all it’s citizens?! I can’t believe that in the year 2009 that rich people are still staying rich and the poor people just keep on suffering. America needs a CASTRO. Getting Health care reform in this country is not Rocket Science. Now,what Wilson did was totally disrespectful, but Obama`s problem and the reason that he can`t get Heath care reform passed is because of members of his own Democratic party. If Obama said to House speaker Nancy Pelosi who is Italian, that if she dosen`t help him get Health care passed he is going to cut off her extra perks and privileges that ordinary Americans don`t get, like when she flies over to Italy on a luxury jet and parties,American taxpayers are the ones who pay for it,if Obama did that with all members of Congress he would get a new HEALTH Care package passed.

We shouldn’t be spending on healthcare NOR a war…Both are sending us into a depression and collapse of the dollar.

i liked the way the prez, looked in the direction of the “heckler” from south carolina . and just let it roll off his back. seems to me he considered the source. but prez knows he took the oath of office to represent those of us who love him and his family, and the ones who are underming him…. that don’t…. as they panned the cameras over the congressional chamber you could look at them faces of them republicans… cantor, boehener, mcconnell , grassley etc. and it haunts me these faces and the look on them reminds me of the faces of the invisible empire the card carrying members, [and i don't mean "AAA"]… this election threw the world off its axis and the party of NO and the G.O.B. / aka good ol boys can’t take it….. + that woman ya know “MRS FIRECRACKER 400″ aka sarah palin. the lady going around sponsored maybe by fox news, thinking she’s popular. needs to sit down… hold on folks cause the 2010 election is where the wolves really rear their heads… to try and lame duck this president.. so blue state folks keep your eyes and ears open. don’t let the party of NO and the GOB’S catch you sleeping… and roll their trojan horse up to your door and to this election cycle and lame duck the president… PEACE we’ve gonna find out in 2010 who’s a liar.

Yeah, his popularity poll numbers are going way down, because he is talking a good game and giving speeches about massive change, and so far all that Americans see is a massive nothing,no changes, nothing, just feel good speeches that don`t do you any good if you get sick and have no health insurance. And time is moving, before you know it,Barack`s first term will be over. He`s got to get moving ! No ,more speeches ! about what your gonna do,how about doing what you said that you were going to do when you ran for President !

It’s a very simple concept: If you don’t have money, you can’t spend.
We don’t have the money for this or anything else (including war).
I’d rather have Bad Healthcare than Depression & Collapse of the dollar & Collapse of our democracy & freedom.
