POLITICS: THE PRESIDENT IN NEW YORK / PATERSON TO RUN WITHOUT WHITE HOUSE SUPPORT / THE OBAMA PLAN IN FOUR MINUTES

September 23rd, 2009

President Barack Obama walks toward Marine One with Vice President Joseph Biden’s wife, Jill, prior to their departure from the White House on Monday.

The two traveled to New York, where Mrs. Biden introduced the President at Hudson Valley Community College where he spoke about the economy. The President is also in town for the United Nations General Assembly before heading to Pittsburgh for the G-20 Summit on Thursday. Check out photos below.

PATERSON TO RUN WITHOUT WHITE HOUSE SUPPORT

NY Governor David Paterson has announced he will seek re-election, although the White House has urged he step aside for the good of the Democratic Party, a plan proposed by the president’s political team and approved by the President himself.

Last Monday, when the President went to Wall Street to deliver a speech on the financial industry, Gov. Paterson was not invited. Instead, White House political director Patrick Gaspard met with him and told him the President had lost confidence in his ability to win the 2010 election. According to one source, Gaspard delivered the message that, essentially, said “We want you to stand down. There is no path to success.”

Michael Steele, the first black chairman of the Republican National Committee, said he “found that to be stunning, that the White House would send word to one of only two black governors in the country not to run for re-election.”

THE OBAMA PLAN IN FOUR MINUTES

The White House has released a shortened video of the President’s recent health care address to Congress to detail everything you need to know about the health care plan in only four minutes.

I hope Obama did not tell Paterson not to run. Imagine if someone told that to Obama a few years ago.

Good for David Paterson!!!! You run and win or lose, don’t let anyone try to determine your future. If the story is true I am really dissapointed in the president. I think the reason everyone in NY is fighting Paterson is because he doesn’t want to make it business as usual in Albany and since they are used to the corruption(yeah you Spitzer) I believe they spazzed out on Paterson. That suckes on all levels Obama

I don’t know what the situation is with Gov. Paterson. Why are people not wanting him go to run? Is the President has advised him not to, there must be a good reason.

Nobody believes Paterson will win and it won’t be good for New York state to lose this high DEMOCRAT position. If Paterson loses REPUBLICANS win. Get it?

President Obama needs to be very careful about how he gets himself involved with state politics.

Yeah, I agree, support David Paterson’s run. Even though we know he won’t win and as a result will make life harder for the Presidents agenda (especially on healthcare), let’s all root for David. Woo! go David!

Yeah that makes a lot of sense people.

oh please….obama has no right to tell patterson not to run. if he thinks patterson is going to lose then why is he supporting covernor corzine of new jersey who is most likely going to lose too? the democratic sand castle is falling and 2010 will be a fiasco

@ 3, 4, 5, 6, 15, and 16…R YALL FRIGGIN CRAZY!!!!!!! listen if your not a NEW YORKER or u have’nt been keeping up with what the idiot PATTERSON has been doing, then u need 2 not comment! he’s an idiot, and he’s taking NY down, we were’nt that good of a shaped when he took over and we’re even worse now.

I’m pretty damn happy they gave him that advice b/c as far as NY goes, he has no supporters in this state! ppl here r counting the days till his term is over!

It has nothing 2 do with him black, if your doing a bad job u need 2 step down or not run again, I respect the democratic party for that move and advice, really I do. and i respect Obama even more, he’s not looking @ it from a black or white point of view, he’s looking @ the man’s record and what he can bring, and BELIEVE ME CL IT AINT MUCH! HMPH!

Patterson already knows what the outcome is gonna be if here runs again, I really don’t c the point!

@20 he’s just made a lot of silly mistakes when it comes 2 taxes, schooling, etc!

As far as a republican taking he’s spot, VERY UNLIKELY! NY is a democatic state i can count on 1 hand how many times this state has given it 2 a republican.

Thank you soror (Been Prissy). I think it is essential for people to read. People in the state who are directly impacted would know better, who have had their taxes effected would feel it more and those within the state with kids in the NYPS are going to know. It’s the same where I live. I’m glad Obama can look past the color line and shame on Steele for coming at Obama like that who is working for his party — just as Steele does.

    I like the 4-minute thing.
To all who wonder why Obama wouldn’t suport Gov. Patterson: Uknown to mainstream New Yorkers, he simply hasn’t been doing as good a job as promised. For more details, do your own research.
