‘ROUND THE WAY: PRES. OBAMA CALLS KANYE A “JACKASS” DURING AN “OFF-THE-RECORD” INTERVIEW

Monday, September 14, 2009

ABC News reporter Terry Moran caused quite a commotion tonight on Twitter after writing the following:

Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a “jackass” for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT’S presidential.” (AUDIO NOW AVAILABLE)

Although Moran quickly removed the tweet, he has over a million followers, and it quickly bounced around Twitter through various users and can still be found here.

An ABC spokesperson explained to Politico what happened:

In the process of reporting on remarks by President Obama that were made during a CNBC interview, ABC News employees prematurely tweeted a portion of those remarks that turned out to be from an off-the-record portion of the interview. This was done before our editorial process had been completed. That was wrong. We apologize to the White House and CNBC and are taking steps to ensure that it will not happen again.

The White House has not commented on the incident, but I’m sure we’ll hear more in the coming days.

@75 who said that I was defending a “indefensible act”?? I didn’t say weather I disagree or agree with what Obama said. Also I know it’s not just white people twisting words , but look at who really controls the media. Just look at it! The answer is there. Maybe it’s not what you believe to be true, but it’s what I believe to be true…and that’s just my opinion.

Racist whites can say what the hell they want to say but when someone black does something wrong or off the cuff they make a big deal of it , yeah he was wrong but what are you going to do send him to hell for being rude….thats dumb

everyone grieves differently

It was more so sad than anything else a cry for help, he needs rest and therapy

I am sick of some people saying that Kanye was telling the truth. It was his opinion. I know it hard to believe but every one is not in love with Beyonce. I have to say I was not a big fan of hers But the love she showed to Taylor last night she gain one more fan I think that was so sweet of her. It shows that she has made it and she has every award under the sun not getting one was not going to kill her. and plus she got the greatest award of the night. So Beyonce fan let Taylor have one. I never did like Kanye

LMMAO! This is too funny! If Obama really said that, which I hope he did, he really does keep it real! Why is this news anyway? Well, other celebs like Kelly Clarkson and Pink had their quotes/tweets reported too, but I just hope that people don’t overly judge the president for speaking the truth. I called Kanye a p***y… and that’s worse then calling him a jacka**!

Like someone else said, no one knows if Obama said the same thing about Joe Wilson. Remember that the key point of this story is that this comment was made “off the record”. We weren’t supposed to know this comment was made.

Ummm… FYI we done know that Kanye West is a JACKASS! So why is this even news. Barack just called it like he saw it. What you think becasue he is Black we should be defending the poor behaviour of each other. Only STRONG black people will tell one of their own that you messed up,or you looked foolish doing that. We should be doing that for each other. So that we may groom each other.

I truly believe that Kanye is mentally ill. Some make think his antics arecute, funny, keeping it real when really this is clearly a cry for help. Celebrities always start off small with their antics until the real source of their problem is revealed.

MY2SENSE that was real talk. Some black people are so diversively stupid it makes you wish you weren’t black sometimes. Most blacks no nothing about sticking together. The way Kanye handled that was dead wrong but his point was so right and as for Obama and all the who’s to say he didn’t call out “Liar” dude, who’s to say he did? Obama is the most disrespected president ever! Then to have something to say about Kanye’s ignorance but not attend the funeral of the Greatest Entertainer, humanitarian ever “Michael jackson” says a lot about Mr.Obama. I’m rooting for him to turn it around but damn it doesn’t look good.

Unfortunately this post proves that some Concreteloop readers are literally some of the most ignorant, uneducated, sheep on the planet. And clearly many are teenagers.

Some of you children really need to grow up - fast, and I feel sorry for you if you are being dead serious when you say “I will no longer support Obama because of this.” Do society a favor and go read a book–immediately.

I can’t believe how unprofessional that reporter was to tweet this. He should be immediately fired. Further, “off the record” means it was never meant to be released, and was not an “official statement.” He stated a passing comment and some idiot took advantage of the situation, trying to make a name for himself, and posted it on the internet.

Yes, the President has more pressing things to worry about and discuss rather than what idiotic thing Kanye did…but he is human and in touch with what is going on and I don’t see a problem with that. Unfortunatley for him, the very things he is a huge advocate for( blackberry’s, facebook, twitter, technology on the whole) will come back to bite him in the ass if he is not careful when he is asked these questions that have nothing to do with what he is discussing at the time.

Some feel that we need to support Kanye and yada, yada, yada…I feel what he did was inappropriate and stand by that regardless of what race the person was he offended. I honestly feel if it was someone older or black that had one that award he would not have done that shit. No one os faulting him for his opinion, but it was the manner in which he chose to do it. Hell he could have said something later on at the end of the show or whenever. Someone was saying about time MTV gets called out etc…if he is so upset with them, why the hell does he just not go to their events? Him and Amber could have stayed home and watch like his ass ended up doing anyway. I respect those that speak out when it is necessary, but when it is done in an educated manner. What he did was just ghetto and if he was trying to take a stance and make a point, his shit back fired and he is null and void right now. He need to wire his damn mouth back up for a little while.

————————————————–
But where were their MOTHERS when they were saying this? Where were the FATHERS? See, what I want to do is to challenge people on concreteloop to stop thinking in cycles. As a teacher, as a mentor, none of my students are allowed to defend Christ Brown’s actions to me. That says more to my students then President Obama ever could. It is funny that this was brought up because one of my students actually challenged one of my writings describing how black men are the greatest offenders of black women (It’s true Judah, It’s true), not always physically but through their words and actions. I told her honey, if I had a daughter, she would not be allowed to bring another Chris Brown CD in my house. Let me connect this back to the article. When will we get tired of defending the ignorant. Kayne West has even described black women as mutts, and yet here we are. You see what he has hanging on his arm. Stop the insanity.

For people who question the President commenting…it was supposed to be off the record and he was asked. The same way you feel the need to come to this site everyday and voice your opinion is the same way Obama can voice his. Im tired of watching people dictate to this man what he should or should not be saying. He a human being and the vast majority of everyone were saying the same thing about Kanye. So please save it. Hell, Obama probably doesn’t even sleep at night with all he has on his shoulders and all the work he does…let the man phuckin breath already!! Everytime the man blinks it is considered “news”.

Also, dont no one in here know what Obama called Wilson behind closed doors..the reason why we know he called Kanye a jackass is because it is on audio and was released from an off the record comment. Im sure Obama had a few choice words about that Congressman behind closed doors. Obama did exactly what he needed to do about Wilson and take the higher road…therefor, Wilson looks like the jackass he is and Obama looks like he’s above it all. Some of you need to understand the position this President is in and quit acting like he got elected to “fight the white folks”. He is the President of everyone..not just black people. I know Kanye was wrong, but Obama is a president and he didn’t had that to say! I agree with someone comment earlier! He didn’t say that when Congresmen Joe attack him! Eventhough Kanye was wrong, Obama shouldn’t have thrown stones when stones are thrown at him by the same side who he’s trying to protect. He should have said nothing. It amazes me how white people do bad things (hush-hush) and when we do bad thing even the president and Oprah gets involved to hate on us instead of being neutral. White people have been doing bad things to us and others all of their lives and they have never been crucified like Kanye,Chris,Serena, and others. I know we f**ck up sometimes, but so do they! They can call us niggers and we agree with them! Kanye shouldn’t take up for Beyonce anyway! He just f**ck up his career to protect RocNAtion little angel!!!! Then she turn around and support Taylor. I did feel sorry for her,but Kanye should have learned an important lesson. Keep your mouth close and stop defending Beyonce unless she asks you to!!!!

OK obama lose my respect. Its alot going on in this world you need to be focused on. What about healthcare, economy, the troops, What about all those white folks calling you coon, monkey, liar come on now you truly lost cool points. But I guess you have to bow down to all mighty whity to. Don’t show weakness. Can you truly run this country. He was wrong but its alot going on Mr PRESIDENT.

- - - -

in regards to what you wrote, what Obama said was “off the record” which means it was most likely said during casual talk. Obama is a normal person too, he has normal conversations just like you and me. Being president is just his job. In the middle of the interview there was probably side conversation and the VMAs were brought up and im sure he just made a comment. Obama was probably like “man, kanye was a jackass for that” or “that was a jackass move”. Its not like Obama got up on a podium at a press conference and made the statement “Kanye is a Jackass” like it was some big important thing to address more important than the world issues

Just making a simple statement off the record in an everyday conversation doesnt make Obama more or less of a good president doing his duties. What was said was really was suppose to be between Obama and the person he was talking to, but that person was dumb and twittered it. It doesnt concern us. Barack could be sitting with Michelle right now and say “man my ass hurts”, but that doesnt mean he’s focusing more on his ass than he is the country.

Then he had to kiss that cops ass but its ok to treat Kanye like shit cause he’s just a nigger, Please people when are we going to learn to stop turning on each other. Yes Kanye acted an ass but he didnt beat the hell out of the girl he was just rude, where’s all the outrage from white america about disrespecting the president on national tv. Obama is akways quick to criticze black folk, man is this dude going to apologize for his entire presidency!!

Obama needs to STFU. This pitiful mofo will throw any black person under the bus he can to kiss up to whites. It’s sickening. He has NOTHING scathing to say about whites who openly attack him. No, he’s to “presidential” (cowardly) for that, but got time to castigate Kanye.

Obama = FAIL.

I cant believe people are hating on Obama for hating on Kanye!!!

If one can keep in “real”, why cant the other? and what does that say about those that are hating on Obama? hypocrites!

IMHO, Kanye was out of line, not for thinking what he thinks, but for getting on stage and making an ass of himself, just as Joe Wilson and Serena did…. time and place people!!!! Obama tried to speak off the record, the press (likely republican) was at fault here, not Obama!

Come on people, support this President and focus your hatred on the right people!

Damn it Man!!

@Missy

First off people throw around the term hater anytime someone expresses a criticism of something which is ridiculous. And I have been a severe critic of Obama since his campaign days. I wouldn’t say I hate him, but I certainly have no respect for him. Whether people want to admit it or not, Obama is quick to castigate black folks. Does he do this with whites, hispanics, asians? Any other group? I haven’t seen it. This pathetic mofo needs to exercise the SAME restraint with black folks that he does with everyone else. I aint got no free pass for Obama.

And if you can see how Kanye, Serena and Joe was out of line, you should be able to see where Obama was out of line as well. Did he exercise good judgment as far as “time and place” with his comments? Hell no! He is the president. This is not something that should have been spoken about with reporters period and he wouldn’t have had to worry about whether it was on or off the record. He should have said no comment and left it at that.

THAT’S GOOD FOR ALL THE DUMB BLACK FOLKS THAT VOTED FOR OBAMA…HE IS A “TURN COAT” P.E.R.I.O.D
He did not think Kanye was a Jackass when Kanye was supporting his presidential bid and giving free concerts. Yes…I am very disappointed in Kanye…I believe he can do better than that stabk behind “Coco” #2, Ice T suck too…but he needs help and has not dealt with his mothers death.

So instead of Obama big coconut head a$$ putting Kanye down, want not help him. Black folks will always continue to bring each other down..that ’s why we will never move forward as people.
