THEY SIT THERE AND HAVE ALL THESE TOWN-HALL TYPE MEETINGS BUT AS SOON AS THOSE MEETINGS ARE OVER WITH NOBODIES WILLING TO TAKE SOME TYPE OF ACTION. THE ONE THAT KEEPS PEOPLE FROM DOING SO IS THAT THEY DON’T KNOW HOW TO APPROACH THESE KIDS/THUGS/GOONS/GANGSTERS NOW AND DAYS. I HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH MY CHURCH PREACHING ALL THESE MESSAGES BUT NOBODIES OUT IN THE STREETS EVANGELIZING. THE ONE THING THAT WORKED FOR ME BRINGING PEOPLE TO CHURCH WAS THAT I WAS ABLE TO TALK TO GANGSTER’S FACE TO FACE BUT IN A WAY THAT MADE THEM FEEL LIKE I UNDERSTAND THEM AND NOT LIKE I’M BETTER THAN THEM. WE NEED TO NOT BE AFRAID AND TRY TO AT LEAST REACH OUT. TRUST ME IT’S NOT HARD.

OH YEA AND ANOTHER THING. THESE TEACHERS NOW AND DAYS NEED TO TAKE SOME TYPE OF MANDITORY CLASS ON HOW TO TEACH KIDS IN THE 21ST CENTURY BECAUSE IF THE PARENTS CAN’T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THERE KIDS THEN MAYBE THE TEACHERS COULD TRY TO HELP. IT’S A FACT THAT WHEN YOU ASK A KID WHO WAS THERE FAVORITE TEACHER THAT THEY WOULD MOST LIKELY PICK THE TEACHER THAT WAS SUCCESSFUL IN CREATING A TEACHER-STUDENT RELATIONSHIP/ATMOSPHERE THAT MADE THEM MORE COMFORTABLE IN CLASS. ON THE OTHER HAND SOME TEACHERS TAKE THE ATTITUDE THAT THEY ARE THE AUTHORITY AND YOU EITHER FOLLOW THEIR RULES OR YOU FAIL. DON’T GET ME WRONG. THERE DOES NEED TO BE ORDER IN THE CLASSROOM BUT THAT IS NOT THE WAY TO DO IT. THOSE TYPE OF TEACHERS ARE ONLY GONNA REFLECT THE POLICE AND WE ALL KNOW THE TYPE OF PRESENTS THE POLICE HAS ON THE COMMUNITY/HOOD/GHETTO.

This story makes me cry. Especially after watching his mother’s face…..I feel her pain. My child didn’t die at the hands of senseless violence, but I know a mother’s pain of losing a child.

I don’t know about anyone else, but this makes me want to do something. I am involved with a lot of service activities at my school as well as the Black Student Club. I have to agree with the person above who said that we walk the walk but don’t talk to talk. I have noticed that all the predominantly white clubs do go into the disadvantaged neighborhoods and actually do the work. But the Black Student Clubs….talk about doing all that but all it ends up is being a social network.

True story…we were supposed to have a community day for one of our neighboring commnunities that REALLY need the help. When I asked our president what things were we going to do to make a difference to these people she said “Oh, we didn’t even really talk about that…we’ll just do something.” And the event is this weekend…..

I’m only one person, but if I can help at least one person, then it will all be worth it.

Please keep the updates coming CL! This is one case I want to see to the end and with all involved doing some time!

The future of black people does not depend on “something more positive”. I don’t even know what the hell that means because “positivity” is subjective. Everyone does not find the same things “positive”. That mindset is part of the problem. The belief that your “opinion” holds weight, or that someone’s emotional beliefs are relevant to a societal issue. These “non-profit” organizations are like the sanitation department. They need garbage to exist, or they don’t have a job. They have no intent of curing the problem because they’re not spiritually and intellectually based. They’re emotionally based. What the hell does “MenStoppingViolence” against women have to do with this issue? How did the worship of the woman (once again) sneak it’s way into a thread about the death of a young black man?

The real issue is that black people do not know who their God is and what He requires of them. They don’t know who their brother, sister, and neighbor are, as opposed to who their enemy is. The other races do not have this issue because they put their people first. They’re not concerned with “equality” and “loving everybody” like black people are. This mindset is directly related to a slave mentality and the notion that the only position that blacks should aspire to are relegated to subordinance to whites, or at best, “equality”. Then people act shocked when our people produce these little demons that have no regard for themselves or others.

Oprah spends money on buying cars for audience memebers, why in the hell can’t she do for Chicago youths. She builds schools in Africa, why in the hell she can’t help the public schools in Chicago. She is out for a political agenda. She got her ass in Denmark rooting for the Olympics to be held in Chicago….um and why!

Rapper Nas wrote a piece on globalgrind.com entitled “Open Letter To Young Warriors In Chicago”, where he brings an interesting perspective to this issue (go check it out).

According to him those kids are fighting the “wrong war”. He recognizes that they have anger, as he once did, which is legitimate, but they need to direct it properly.

I don’t know, I feel it’s kinda obvious to say that to black youth after the facts, but on a daily basis it feels as if models in the black community are preaching the exact contrary: which is to comply and not make waves and be invisible. Consequently, back youth becomes invisible, and even on the net they’re not part of the video revolution that is changing the world as we speak.

Also, lately there’s been countless racists attacks towards blacks by the Fox News & co machine, and there hasn’t been ONE figure in the black community rising up to counter attack them.

What message do you think that sends to black youth? you don’t think they get affected by it all? of all the hatred they read and witness as of late? all of it has to be brewing somehow, and to be honest I’m quite surprised there has been so little outbursts (except actually from the right wingers).

Angel I also think you should add the Omega Boys Club. I went through the program and it helped me tremendously to find out who I was and to discover the fight that I was fighting of being a poor, under privelged, young adolescent, I was not fighting it alone. Also, they offer scholarships to deserving students. So far there have been 150 graduates coming out of the 21 year old program. Dr. Joe Marshall is the founder and he has been recognized by people such as Oprah, Essence Magazine, and Ebony, just to name a few. The motto of the program is to keep people ALIVE and FREE and that’s exactly what they’re doing. Their website is streetsoldiers.org. CHECK EM OUT!

Watching this video made me burst into tears as if I knew Derrion. I feel for his mom. It breaks my heart. This is senseless. All for nothing. What is this world coming to? These truly are the last days. My condolences to the family and I think I will be sending a donation to them to go towards his funeral.
