I am the sort of chick who keeps it old school. I listen to Aretha, Gladys, Al Green, Marvin etc most of the time. The more modern artists I like are Alicia Keys, Angie Stone, Erykah Badu, D’Angelo. The pop/r&b crossover stuff is not my thing. So with that in mind I have to say that neither Rihanna or Beyonce are my kind of thing. But having seen them both perform I have to say that while Beyonce is too “pop” for me, the sistah is very talented indeed - her dancing skills are crazy and she has a really pretty voice. Plus, let’s be real, she is mad beautiful. Rihanna on the other hand has shown no dancing ability at all so far. Her voice is decidedly unpleasant and off-key and just generally bad.
