Concrete Loop got exclusive access to the Charlotte, North Carolina stop of the “BLACKSUMMERS’NIGHT tour” featuring Maxwell, Common and Chrisette Michele. Maxwell is a big fan of the blog and showed us so much love during the show and behind the scenes. The show was amazing.
Due to scheduling conflicts we missed Chrisette’s set, but here are some exclusive photos that I took during Common and Maxwell’s performance. For more info on my backstage experience, check out ANGELONFIRE.COM

I was at the MSG Concert last Monday! It was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also,
This concert is DEFINITELY for the GROWN & SEXY! The little ones need to be in bed. LOL!!!!!!!!!
OMG, I look forward to being within a few rows of seeing my Baaaaay-bay and Hunie on the same night when they come to the N.O. on the 21!!!!! Tell me, what are the odds of that?!! Since I couldn’t see my Maxie close up for Essence Music Festival over this past summer, I made certain to get up close and personal: we had our first date, me and Maxie (LOL), 13 years ago, my 9th grade year, watching BET, right before Erykah Badu’s “On & On” came on …there, he came on
Yep, I’m obsessed and I do look forward to see my girl, Chrissy too!
“I can’t control the feeling….” Damnmnnnnnn Maxwelll and Commonsense!!!
I don’t typically post to any blogs (lurk)….but for Maxwell I have to. I went to his show on Monday in Atlanta, as well and I am still recuping. I hate that I could not be closer when he split his pants!!! I will say if you can get there you will not be disappointed. I don’t do concerts but my cousin hyped me up to go & I went last November for my bday and had to go back again. I will be purchasing another ticket when he comes again.
Saw him in DC this past Friday. The show was marvelous and worth every pennny. Would luv to see him again. Nice to have see a fine GENTLEMEN these days instead this tatooed ,gold tooth internet wanna be thugs.
@ Phoenix
LOL!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Most black women don’t want these thugs.
My sister & I were just talkin about how the most popular (and successful) black men in our community are actually not men with thugged out images… Denzel, Edris Elba, LL Cool J, Brian McKnight, Drake, Usher, Tyler Perry, John Legend, Kanye, Common, Morris Chestnut, WIll Smith, Maxwell, Hill Harper … black women helped make the careers of most of these men and we want more men like this!
I had to post a snippet of this old 1998 interview I came up on for the MAxwell stans – it is an inter view between my two favorite singers of all time ( Lauryn Hill & Maxwell) you can search UP ON THE HILL for the full interview. Two soulful artists talk music man –
M: I hear that, but it’s a hard thing for me. I think I just kick back and live in that romanticism.
LH: But Maxwell, you see those ladies. They look at you and your whole persona and they just flip their wigs. [M laughs] Let me tell you, just for the record, when you have a show in New York, could you just not promote it in my neighborhood? ‘Cause all the gifts harass me to get tickets. I’m tired of that. I have to turn my phone off when you come into town.
M: [laughs] Oh, come on. You, Ms. Superfly Chocolate Cocoa, giving me rhyming skills, and then giving me vocality and intonation and enunciation and phrasing on top of it.
LH: Listen to you! [laughs] OK. Well, just do what you gotta do to not advertise in my neighborhood. You’ll make the sales up somewhere else.
M: You were fly even before you became known, so you still got all of that. But for me, comin’ from high school and not gettin’ no looks, no play, no love, nothin’ – it’s a trip.
LH: It’s not easy for people who aren’t used to the attention and then get thrown into the spotlight to stay humble, but you have. And they just flung you into the spotlight.
M: When I first met y’all and we went on the black college tour together, I couldn’t believe how down-to-earth you were. You walked over and said, “Hey, what’s up?” I couldn’t believe you were talking to me.
LH: Just for the record, when we’d go on after you, I’d only catch you as you were walking offstage with your band. Then, once I came in time for your set. Next thing I see, the lights come on, you turn around, and you’re just giving up body, dancin’ and singin’, and the shirt is open and the hips are movin’, and I thought, Oh my God!
And ladies was screaming, the lights were dim, the candles were on. You took me by surprise. You made me blush! I started screaming. All this time I’m thinking this man is shy.
I’m talking to him sensitively and delicately, and here he gets onstage and just controls it.
M: Is this the same person that’s just, like, giving the legs and, sh*t onstage?
LH: [laughs] Don t even start.
M: Let me check the record. Is this the same person that he comin’ onstage kicking the legs? You know what I’m talking about. That’s like the signature L boogie move. Yo, don’t even try.
LH: Part of the reason we identify with each other is because we both know the gift is from God. All praise should be given to Him. It’s cool if people give us kudos and accolades, but we know who is responsible for everything we do. We’ve also got to protect the music, and make sure it never gets exploited and turned out like doughnuts or something.
M: It’s a hard thing, but you can remain focused and consistent. Particularly you, with your style and what you’re doing musically. You’ve kept your Africanism to such a strong extent that it’s beautiful again.
I left Philly last June and missed the Blacksummer’s Tour this summer. I’m beyond excited to see Maxwell in Paris november the 3rd. Ticket bought already and I will def make sure to be before the stage even if I’ m broke now and leave work early!! OMG this guy is MAD SEXY!!
