Nia Long and comedian Chris Rock attend The Cinema Society and Target screening of ‘Good Hair’ at the IFC Center on Monday night in New York City. The film will hit theaters on October 9th.

I saw Chris Rock interview on Oprah and he had me dying. Oprah and Chris were trying very hard to explain black hair to the audience.
I can’t wait to see the movie though.

I will be very interested to see if Chris tackles the emotional and psychological aspects of black women and their concept of what is beautiful and how we view ourselves in the society at large with respect to our hair.
This is much deeper than jokes. Some people’s self worth and esteem are deeply rooted in physical appearance and the perception of what is in fact beautiful. I think a large part of our social issues are tied to the perception piece… what pop culture deems popular, makes a lot of people do strange things to achieve acceptance.
I look forward to seeing if the movie tackles any of that.
