HOT OR NOT: RIHANNA - “RUSSIAN ROULETTE” + SINGLE COVER & ALBUM TITLE INFO

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

♫ Rihanna - Russian Roulette
ALTERNATE LINK

Check out Rihanna’s first official single, “Russian Roulette” (written by Ne-Yo) from her upcoming new album entitled, Rated R. The “Russian Roulette” video, directed by Anthony Mandler, will premiere in prime-time on ABC soon.

The song is slow tempo ballad but we heard she had some dance tracks on the new record too. I guess we will have to wait until November 23rd to hear more.

YAWN.

It’s funny how you project your own feelings about “stalking” when all your comments are about me. And it’s also funny how you don’t like Rihanna but look where you are on her posts. You Beyonce Stans are really in need of some help. Rihanna is the future and B-Yaki is the PAST. I bet your as OLD as she is. Rihanna is for people of my generation and we respect her Vision and Talent.

LMAO

I think I have given you enough attention. You are not offically dismissed.

Bye Bye Creep.

Married, not ugly, with three kids, one just graduated (female engineer) , one junior in college ( double major computer programing/computer engineer-GOD please bless him to finish) at the top school in his field and last one in high school.

Right now I am working -my own business. I’ve worked with kids and have mentored a few. I pop in every now and then while I’m on my computer so that I can council those I mentor.

I am concerned about what I see peddled to my community. If I can reach one that’s great….because I see a too many young men dying…and too many young girls with “foe or fiv” kids. We need to change now.

I have a mother and father and I don’t need you to make decisions for me on the type of Music I LIKE.

I understand you have a lot of misconceptions about Rihanna and that is your choice but you don’t have to come on a Rihanna post and spread lies about her character or her music.

Deal in truth and it will set you free this is ART and Entertainment and if you listened to the song you would know it’s not about SUICIDE.

Her job is to sell records. Not to raise, influence, or impact your children to the point of having them want to emulate what she sings about in her
songs

No she my kids aren’t listening to Rhi Rhi, and yes I AM my brothers keeper.

If I turn my back on those that do not have stable parental influences I will eventually pay with my taxes, unsafe neighborhoods, and more crime etc.

Those exact words you use are very similar to what being debated in regards to legalizing prostitution.

And yes educate yourself music has been well documented in regards to its influence on behavior. Are you familiar with Saul.

Let’s get one thing clear. I am a Rihanna fan and I am not in her age group. I am 35 and I listen to her music just like the younger people on this post. Music is for everyone. I listen to several of her songs on my ipod while I work out. So don’t believe the hype that her fans are only children. Grown folks are listening too. Just because I don’t spend time on here arguing back and forth doesn’t mean I’m not a fan.

I agree with both points. From an outsider’s perspective, the song literally focuses on suicide and the singer’s pain. @Furiousstyles, obviously there is a greater meaning to the song once you penetrate the lyrics. Unfortunately a lot of kids and adults might take it for its face value. I’ll leave my comment on the styling of the album cover alone.

@FuriousStyles, thank you for your commitment to those at risk. It’s definitely a job that requires a lot of patience, hope and strength. As you can tell from the passionate arguments that are being made, people are highly opinionated. We can only hope that Rihanna’s music will do more good than harm for her fans. These days music is music and it’s constantly evolving. Not always to be taken literally or lightly.

Blessings to both.

Sorry hun but it looks as if you’ve done much more than just “pop in” on this post. It looks like you have taken this on as your personal crusade to save the world from the likes of Rihanna. You made your point already. I don’t see why you have to beat a dead horse. From the sound of your previous comment it looks as if your plate is full and you have more important things you could be doing with your family right now. I’m sure your husband could use some of the attention you are giving CL right now. I’m just saying.
Now I’ll show you how to pop in (and out)….I’m done. Peace CL.

RE-Post

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 /

I had to repost this i agree so much!!!

I’m a young person who LOVES Rihanna’s music. And my PARENTS raised me well enough to know that this song, Russian Roulette is not about “suicide”. The “GUN” is a METAPHOR about LOVE and taking Risks. Russian Roulette is not about Suicide per say it’s a GAME that is predicated on Risk just like LOVE is and I understand this at age 17. Why don’t you get this? I’m so sick of OLD people attacking music from our ICONS. Rihanna speaks for OUR generation and we DEMAND complex music that is well beyond “Put a Ring on It” or that Junk that C-Error sing about. Rihanna and Neyo have written a darker song (a masterpiece) that goes against the grain and that deal with real emotions and we love and appreciate ART.

@603. LOLLLL Did you care about the kids a few weeks ago when they had new music from R.Kelly?? Did you care then?? This song don’t have anything to do with young men dying or women having 4 or 5 kids. Now if you want to fix what is in our community you need to reach the places where it is needed and people actually care. Furthermore a lot of Rihanna’s supporters are white NOT all but that is what most of them are. She reaches to all races and African Americans is not her main audience so this is not the person to pinpoint at the black community. Hip hop is where you need to start in discussing our community. Anyone with common sense knows that. I think a lot of people are just finding it strange that of all people Rihanna is where some of you draw the line on where we need to start fixing our community. Smells like HATER!!!

Last post, finished my work.

Some day you young folks will look back and wonder if this was your time to stop the tide. Unlike me you will not be able to share your music with your kids, because of the overtly explicit lyrics and images.

Black entertainers have an unwarranted amount of influence on our youth…for the bad.

Right now Rhi Rhi is bearing her breast, and singing about suicide and wearing a weave.
Not very creative. More like reality for some.

I’d like to see some real creativity and hear our entertainers like Rhi Rhi sing about getting educated, buying a house, getting married, and raising your family. For todays black kids that not their reality. That would be creative.

TOONS

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 /

Those barbed wires wrapped around her are symbolic of the fact that she is a slave to her master satan, which is who she’s singing to. Note the triangle right over her heart. Also the patch is over one eye to represent the all seeing eye of Lucifer. She’s playing Russian roulette because she is taking a chance with him. She has to prove how far she’ll go for him even if it means her life, which she knows she’ll lose to him in the end. She says how terrified of the situation she is. Terror is a strong word which lets you know who she’s dealing with. When she says I’m not leaving, she means she won’t leave him, she has taken this oath and it is until the end. She has spiritually killed herself in order for her relationship to work with him. Her fame is going to surpass Beyonce’s. She’s the new puppet for the industry. She’s completely ignorant and easily controlled. When was the last time you heard this girl actually talk? They never let her speak, just dress her up in couture and shove her out into the streets to mesmerize the braindead.

The old Rhianna has died and a new one will emerge, probably with demons 10x stronger than the ones she had. Her magic is working on a Sasha Fierce’s level. You see how deluded and protective these fans are. It’s actually funny to see people defend these celebrities as if they know you even exist. You’d probably save this whore over the women who gave birth to you. She has all of her fans under a strong spell too hypnotized to even conceptualize the depth of this trash she has fed you. There are teens and younger contemplating suicide and here comes this evil witch with a depressing song about ending it all. This will push bunch of already depressed suicidal teens over the edge. All they needed was a nudge and Rhiwhora gave it to them. She is actually singing a song about killing herself and you want to interpret that into a beautiful piece of art. LMAO. Just goes to show the day and times we are living in when evil is something that is to be praised and magnified.

Isa 5:20
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

The only Dumb thing on this POSTING is YOU.

Robert. My parents raised me well and they allow me to make up my own mind about my TASTE LEVEL.
If I was feeling suicidal I would get help from a doctor and it dam sure would not be over a SONG that is not how suicide works honey. This song is about strength and yes weakness it’s about the emotional ups and downs you can go on in a relationship and from this song you think about these things. It’s not about suicide it’s a SONG. You know my mother told me that people felt the same way about Elvis. That his music was going to bring about the end of the world because kids loved it and they danced to it. It’s so funny that people like you make so much out of this Song. That only proves that Rihanna is not hitting cultural themes and people are getting upset (over nothing). There is nothing in this song that would have my Parents up in arms about Robert and if you think this is something to be worried about get off this Posting and don’t listen to this Music.

GROW UP!

If you don’t like this song don’t listen to it. Don’t you dare tell me that my Parents have not raise me well how dare you? I don’t have to agree with you and I’m not looking for your approbation. My Parents are both intellectuals and professionals and they love the arts and they have exposed me to things I’m sure your parents would not approve of because they are not as well exposed to different expressions of Art.
If my Parents did not object to Rihanna new song that does not make them poor parents. And if my parents allow me to make up my own mind even if they did not agree that is also not poor parenting. JERK!

Robert just stay in your little bubble. I’m not here demanding that you like this song if you don’t that is more than fine with me but don’t you dare tell me what I should like or what I should find acceptable based on your parochial views!

Man, I love controversy - i really do, but all this talk about Columbine, parental control and censorship is really killing me. Hello? This’ only a song!! And it’s in no way explicit at all…there’s suspense in it, and it leaves the blanks for the listener to imagine what just took place; It’s like a mini movie of sorts about a specific moment in time, which could end one way or the other, and we get to witness the scene. That’s why it’s art. Pop art.

Also, did anyone contemplate that the song is really about a metaphor of a relationship and whether or not she will pull that trigger meaning will she go through with this relationship…..THINK PEOPLE!!! THE LA Times Review I had to repost this for the haters…lol Give it Riri…Caching….I can hear the money rolling in…Get it Honey..The more these bitter broads hate the more you elevate

Rihanna’s recent, tragic history ensures there’s more than a pop curiosity around the single, but she’s also been one of the industry’s fastest-rising stars. “Good Girl Gone Bad” spawned multiple hits, including the ubiquitous “Umbrella,” and has sold 2.5 million copes in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

From the initial few listens on “Russian Roulette,” it’s clear that Rihanna isn’t going to play nice, nor does she appear to have any intention to shy from tough, violent subject matter. This is far from the typical ballad. It’s an assertive, harsh and, at times, frightening single, coming to a close with a gunshot. A guitar streak opens the number, but the song doesn’t explode into “Shut Up and Drive”-like exhilaration.

Instead, the song, co-written with Ne-Yo, strikes a more resolute tone. It’s hard to imagine it blasting out of car windows or even controlling a club, but it’s all attention-grabbing stuff, standing in stark — emphasis on stark — contrast to much of the current pop landscape. The smattering of piano keys could be a soundtrack to a horror film, and Rihanna’s quivering pre-verse gasps immediately put the listener on alert.

The lyrics are vague enough to keep people guessing but hint at a situation one probably doesn’t want to be in the middle of. “He says close your eyes, sometimes it helps,” Rihanna sings with unshaken directness, adding, ominously, “and then I get a scary thought.” The beats close in around her, and the strings quiver as if they’re being played through gritted teeth, building in the end to something almost approaching a theme to a Bond film.

But make no mistake, although the song comes to a close with a final bang, Rihanna is the heroine here. “So just pull the trigger,” she tosses off in the cut’s final moments, all swagger and confidence. The narrative of the song — and just who, exactly, is the shooter — matters less than Rihanna’s command performance. A midtempo song without overbearing production, the single belongs all to Rihanna, and she makes the best of it — a bit icy, a tad fearless, with the vocal strength to keep the orchestral flourishes at bay.

Wow at the comments truly disgusting to see some peoples behavior.

Anyways I don’t like the song, it sounds depressing like something a young teenager

will cut themselves or commit suicide listening to. However we’ll see how it does on

the charts since a lot of artist will be releasing music at the same time.

F*ck the song. I’m amused by how yall are going sooooo hard on each other. *dead*

Stfu with the suicide shit. If parents raised their bad ass kids right they wouldn’t have to worry about bobby and becky jumping out the window over a song.

Furious Styles got mad replies for days! LMAO!! He/she is like a rihanna blog autobot. Child eat them wheaties and keep talkin shyt cuz I’m dyin at these comments.

Let’s see how many comments about genocide in darfur or the plumetting value of the U.S. Dollar would get. Yall so stupid as hell. Rihanna nor beyonce nor ciara thinkin about this coonery

I luvv this song and I have listened to it countless times.. I mean I listened to it.. I sung the lyrics and took it in..It’s seems like she is getting positive reviews from critics. I know people have a strong hate for Rihanna and they are looking for her to fail I hope she continues to do what she has done all throughout this ordeal and stand tall against the rain, hate, and envy. I look forward to buying her CD and Beyonce’s video. I gotcha back girl.

Pretty picture…I like the lower register of her voice…the higher sounds a little whiny. Whether you like the girl or not..it’s about be Rihanna mania. Sounds Neyo-ish…good luck.

Rhianna makes good music. I like it in a depressing kind of way lol. The cover……I like it but I don’t like the message and that’s the selling sex message. So I guess she’s the good girl gone bad and still bad lol?

I still love her fashion sense. She reinvents herself and never misses a beat.

i like rihanna but she’s one of those people who you get sick of because her pictures are everyone and she’s always dolled up. she just doesnt seem really humble to me like other artist like beyonce and mariah carey. the girl is NEVER smiling n any of her pictures

on the other hand

the song is okay. just probably one of those songs that tends to grow on you. im sure i’ll grow to love it… her voice sounds surprisingly nice tho.
