1st. This movie will be phenomenal. I adivse people all around the United States to go and watch this Monumental Ground Breaking Film. Derived from the book “Push” by Sapphire, it portrays the struggles of a young uneducated woman who yearns for a Better Life. SReid&Co. Give it 5 out of 5 stars.

@ lovelylady81- dont hate me…This is not a Tyler Perry nor Oprah Winfrey Movie. This movie is a Lee Daniels Production. Tyler and Oprah are just presenting it (standing behind it) and putting their endorsment on it.

I really feel that Gabourey is going to win the Oscar for best actress next year.
I really want Meryl Streep to finally win another Oscar but lets get real Meryl will have many other chances to win but this is it for Gabourey she not gonna get another powerhouse role again. This part was made for her to shine.

Lee Daniels is an excellent director this will be an intense movie for many people to watch. I saw a screening of this and there is no release it’s just intense scene after intense scene.
Monique was GREAT!
MAriah was very good as well.
Everyone was great.
Lenny Kravitz had impact even if his role was so small.
This is be very hard to watch.
Love the cover and the pictures of the NYT Magazine I will look forward to this on Sunday.

REAL BLACK LOVE
Thursday, October 22, 2009 /
I wonder if the person who wrote the book Push, which became Precious , ever saw a movie called A Patch of Blue, because the story of Precious is the same as A Patch of Blue, it was about a teen-ager in New York City who was brutally abused by her family, both of the abused teen-agers in Precious and in A Patch of Blue, live in New York City, and have extremely vulgar and abusive mothers and have been sexually abused by men in their families. and they both eventually meet a kind professional black teacher or social worker who helps to inspire them to rise above their abusive circumstances and take power of their own life and find a better life. The plot of Precious and of A Patch of Blue is identical,,that can`t be a lucky coincidence

Thursday, October 22, 2009 /
No, I`ll wait for this to come out on cable , because Lee Daniels and Tyler Perry ,all of their movies are basically the same, they always have a story about a black woman who has gone through some cycle of abuse and they are trying to find a better life,, so even if you get to the movie theater late, you really have`nt missed anything ,because Daniels and Perry make the same black woman that has been abused movie over and over again !

REAL BLACK LOVE stop hating. So what if A Patch of Blue is similar you are a fool if you think that many young girls arent abused by family members. So Saphire did not steal the concept. It was a true story that so many young people can relate to.
Who are you to think there is a copy right on abuse. get real

I think Lee Daniels is a horrible filmmaker, he`s that weird dude, that sounds like a black hippie , and he`s the one that made that flick with Halle Berry in it where she was having all kinds of degrading sex with a white guy, I think it was called monster`s ball, and Angela Bassett was suppose to play Halle Berry`s part but she turned the role down because she said that it was degrading to black women !

Degrading to women my butt. Monster Ball was a powerful moving story about loss and redemption and Halle delievered. Yes the sex scene did not have to be so graphic but the scene was necessary to convey Letishas emotions. So much was conveys on Halle Berrys face during that sex scene and it sealed the oscar for her

I`m not a puppet,I`m a human being and tyler perry and that lee daniels or whatever his name is they manipulate the hell out of the black audience like they are puppets or something, with their low budget movies that follow the same old formula ,a black woman experiences some type of abuse at the hands of some ole evil cruel darkskin black man, because of her abuse she starts to lash out at the world, until she either discovers Jesus or meets someone who helps her to improve her life. Seen it ! So many times before !

#38, why are you going so hard on them? At least it isn’t like Twilight where the lead character is weak and doesn’t do anything for herself to establish independence. Both of them make movies where ppl go through trials but EVERYONE works through it. So what if abuse is a recurring theme. HELLO, it’s like that in real life so why not shed light on it? I swear, ppl be having the DUMBEST complaints on ish nowadays.

Precious is BASED on a Book written by a Black woman.

46 # @ Somia ! Lmao , that is so true ! my damn stomach is hurting I laughed so hard, Tyler,Lee and Oprah ! birds of a feather flock together they all joined forces and made the movie Precious together, because they all pimp the same thing , which is a black woman who suffered abuse and is seeking a better way ! and you know that tyler is going to further manipulate the black audience by throwing in a soundtrack with Bebe Winans, Gladys Knight and all those black gospel choirs on BET. No Negro can resist music. And in the meantime, while they financially exploit us Tyler,Lee and Oprah sit back and watch their money pile up !

I`m tired of seeing movies about black suffering. Why can`t they make positive movies about black people. How about a movie about a teen-age black girl who goes to college and graduates or a teen-age black guy who goes to Morehouse College graduates ,then goes on to Harvard to become a lawyer and eventually beomes the first black president of the United States. As you can see with Barack and Michelle Obama , not all black people, live a life of suffering and abuse, We need more positive images of ourselves in these movies.

52 # Nina ! i agree ! I know that`s right , I can do bad all by myself ! i got my own negative problems and issues to deal with why would I go and see a movie about someone that got negative problems and issues ! now I will go see a movie that is positive and upbuilding but I `m tired of the negativity about black people we are always portrayed in a negative way as pimps, video chicks, criminals , crackheads ,babymommas, abusers and victims of abuse, it`s time for a change !

46 , Somia , girl that is too funny lmao . But now that I come to think about it.You `re right, Tyler Perry and Lee Daniels , their movies do always have the same formula , it`s always, like you say, a black female that experiences some kind of trauma and abuse, by a very darkskin black man, and the darkskin black man will be crispy black and ashy.,so what are they really trying to say, that darkskin brothers are evil ? And then the abused female meets a wise old owl like Cicely Tyson or Gladys Knight that helps her and in Precious they have Paula Patton playing that role and to make her look older they told her not to wear make-up, it`s the same formula .

The reasons why the Tyler Perry, Oprah, and Lee Daniels theme work is because we black people don’t learn from our mistakes and can’t seem to move the race forward. We have a black president and still act like savages by killing each other. Hip hop and ghetto culture have destroyed any progress we’ve made. We don’t invest in our own businesses, churchgoers have no spirituality, educated black women think they’re too good for average black men, many black men are not taking care of their children, we flood the prison system…
Shall I go on?
I am not depending on my children, but my grandchildren to bring needed change to our people.

Lord, how can someone turn a positive article into something negative. Someone always wants to rain on the the parade. Sheesh. If they were showing a story about a ghetto black woman, some people would still complain. You just can’t please everyone. Keep your arse at home if you don’t want to see the movie, but let everyone enjoy it.

Why do we have to be the only people who are constantly suffering in movies !

Lee Daniels is a HELLUVA producer! He makes movies that are so uncomfortably real, but you just HAVE to watch…if you’ve ever seen Monster’s Ball, The Woodsman (about a pedophile) or Shadwoboxer you know exactly what I mean. I’ll see a movie produced by him without knowing a thing about it just because it’s produced by Lee Daniels

i see the idiots are out in full force. it’s obvious that those complaining about movies that always show “blacks struggling” have not read the book….or other in-depth interviews or articles regarding the movie.
if all you take away from this movie is that it’s just another “black female in distress….needs help” film….you have missed the point. do not pass ‘Go’. carry your ass directly back to 9th grade.
this movie, at the end of the day, is about compassion, empathy, showing concern for our fellow man. and if you feel the black community is not in need of hearing this message…..then proceed to get on a kayak back to Africa. ignorance will get you nowhere.
i would say carry on smartly, but it’s a tad bit late for that.
