Serena’s choice to debase herself by appearing naked on the cover of this mag is suspect considering her little blow up at this year’s US Open. Serena’s body has always been fierce. Undisputed fact. However, this cover was quite unnecessary IMO. She has she right to do it but I don’t see how it advances her carrer in any way.
SOME of the people don’t like the way she “looks” because they have been mentally conditioned by the system to dislike dark skin, and strong features. They don’t acknowledge her kind of beauty because “The lighter, the Brighter the Better” mentallity still reigns supreme.

Sorry, but if I’m being honest, I don’t really care for the picture. Sometimes she does look nice, like in recent posts (new stylist?), but in general, I personally don’t consider her to be the most *gorgeous* person and it has NOTHING to do with the tone of her skin. There are APLENTY of white and other folks that I would and have said the same thing about. Physical beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and to me, has nothing to do with skin tone (there’s an abundance of beautiful dark skinned black women) and more to do with a combination of features, be they afrocentric, eurocentric or asiatic (?).
To me, she would probably look better without the UBER-Eurocentric hair weave because her features are much more afrocentric (and afrocentric is NOT a synonym with ugly), thus it just looks *off* against her features and is not complimentary. I think she would look better with a more natural looking (ethnically speaking) grade of hair weave (or *CRAZY IDEA*, maybe work with her own natural hair!)
I know I wrote an essay, but ppl on this blog seem to love accusing others of “self-hatred” if they simply don’t think a particular individual who happens to have dark skin is gorgeous – and that’s not the case.
