♫ Kandi – Fly Above
These past few months have been challenging for former Xcape member turned reality TV star Kandi Burruss, but she’s proving her perseverance with her “I Fly Above” EP available for download today (October 29th). Many were surprised that the star has not shied away from the spotlight following the untimely death of her ex-fiancée Ashley “AJ” Jewell, but she is clearly showing her strength and dedication to her craft, which is admirable. This sneak peak provides a lucid precursor to what we can expect from her upcoming full-length effort, B.L.O.G.
The title track “I Fly Above,” produced by Drumma Boy gives way to a straightforward crack at addressing her haters. “Trade Him In,” featuring current hot rapper Gucci Mane (whose rap delivery is pure comedy by the way) provides a pinch of cockiness to the relationship based songs that goes against the grain of Kandi’s somewhat mild-mannered persona. Despite trying her hand at a raspier tone, the song’s lyrics are catchier than Kandi’s actually performance itself. “Must Be Good,” is undoubtedly the most contagious track on the EP and by far the most relevant and personal as she wrote it about the Internet fodder surrounding her relationship with AJ. Lastly the indecisive “I Like Him” feat. Rick Ross and Rasheeda and the syrupy “I Just Know,” round out the EP.
Although nothing on the record is earth shattering in its musical appeal, Kandi does have a knack for making catchy music. After all she did turn “Tardy For The Party” from a hilariously boring track to a less annoying dance song that found its way on the top 10 iTunes dance charts.
Be on the lookout for her full-length album ‘B.L.O.G.’ next year and the EP is available on iTunes now. Also make sure to tune-in to the ‘Housewives of Atlanta” reunion show tonight on Bravo.

Saw her on Mo’nique’s show last night and she did really good with her performance. The song is ok, it does sound like a lot of other songs out but it expresses what she is going through right now. I will download her album.
So the only place I’ll ever be listening to this is on Concrete Loop .. this will not be downloaded and put onto my iPod.

I’m not suprised that she stays in the spotlight after her fiance AJ was murdered. That whole relationship was on a collision course with her mother, family and career. She was torn between her edge and “big pimpin”, but now she only has her music and family to focus on.
Listen ladies, a man with a half dozen children by different women…who owns and operates a strip joint, is probably not a great catch. Nothing against AJ, but he was a ‘nizer. He had no restraint when it came to looking at in and being inside of it. Most men are no different, but we have to exercise restraint.
I think she now realizes from the way he died that she would not have been able to fly above all the drama. She’s a smart lady, but she’s got a sweetheart.
CL I was thinking the same thing about the incident. She’s been doing interviews and I’ve been hearing her name lately on the radio, about her appearing at some places and I was like WTF? Didn’t she just have have “big” loss??? I don’t understand how she could promote her music and appear at different events/shows so soon like nothing happened. That’s just strange to me. She doesn’t have to be depressed on the time… but DAMN!
Anyway, this song sucks! She sounds like a fake Christina Milian. That whole southern crunk music is so outta date. She has a great personality, but please let the music rest.

I love Kandi and have been down since her Xscape days! I am so proud of her for persistantly trying to finish her album. There were so many things that tried to prevent her from finishing, but kudos to you for keeping it together. I personally love her style and music and wish her the very best. Keep at it honey and I hope you return for season 3 of Housewives!

I also saw her performance on Mo’Nique’s show last night and I like the lyrics to the song…she hit a few high notes (and they were nice, but comical coming from such a raspy voice -as stated earlier). She did the doggone thing and for those who say she just seems to not care because of the way she has been acting (promoting herself, music, and stuff), that may be her way coping with things. Who knows how long they were engaged? How long were they broken up? The reasons they broke up? Although factors like this should never dampen the love that you have had for a person……and then they’re are up and gone….sometimes you just don’t know how to cope and people react differently…luv ya girlie and look forward to the album

I haven’t watched it since it premeired, but when I heard Kandi was going to be on there last night I stayed went through the torture of listening to Mo’ scream, and basically Mo’ didn’t really let Kandi talk a lot. I wished I would’ve went to sleep like planned, anywho’s I love Kandi spirit… not sure about the song.. something is a little off for me.
I wonder if she was treated like the “first lady Michelle Obama” when she stopped by AJ’s strup club? Did all the girls look up to her and call her madam first lady? Could she go behind the bar or in the changing room? My guess is that Kandi has a freaky side just like Whitney did when she fell in love with Bobby.

Love Kandi and will be picking this up. Its about time real singers with real messages came back on the scene. Not every song needs to be about clubbing, drugging, drinking, killing and having sex. Some songs are meant to take your thoughts to another level and put your mind at ease while encouraging you to greater creativity and inspiration in your own life. Black folks needs to stop dancing and start thinking more. Good for you Kandi!
