WHITE HOUSE: (UPDATE) PRESIDENT & FIRST LADY FIGHT FOR CHICAGO’S OLYMPIC BID + VIDEO

Friday, October 2, 2009

President Barack Obama is introduced by First Lady Michelle Obama (who reportedly stole the show) before he makes a presentation in support of Chicago as the host city for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games on Friday in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The Obamas’ hometown is in a tight race with Madrid, Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro as leaders from Spain, Tokyo and Brazil also headed to Copenhagen in hopes of their cities hosting the Olympics.

Previously, the White House said the first lady would be going, but the President felt that the health care issue is in a place that his absence for one day will not have a negative impact.

UPDATE:
The International Olympic Committee today eliminated Chicago and Tokyo as contenders to host the 2016 Games. Rio de Janeiro will host the 2016 games.

sometimes i feel like Obama is doing too much but i guess we make a bid for the olympics everytime its available so this is nothing but the norm. i really feel michelle should take this on as her own project cos i know Barrack will catch heat if people feel he’s doing this instead of focussing on the economy, health care, the war in Afghanistan etc

loves ya

Hmm…I’m all for Chicago. However I think Tokyo will put on a more pleasent yet entertaining display for the world to watch. I loved the display the Chinese put on for the Olympics last year. Soo different, soo wonderful!

CHICAGO WILL NOT HOST THE OLYMPICS. IT WAS ANNOUNCED A FEW MINUTES AGO.

IM GLAD BECAUSE INSTEAD OF SPENDING BILLONS TO FOCUS ON THAT MAY THEY COULD PUT THAT MONEY TOWARDS MAKING THERE CITY SAFE. HOW CAN YOU HOST THE OLYMPICS IN A PLACE WHERE A INNOCENT CHILD DIES EVERY OTHER DAY. PUT THE MONEY TOWARDS OUR STRUGGLING ECONOMY. ITS AMAZING HOW OUR GOVERNMENT PREACHES TO US ABOUT RESPONSIBLE SPENDING WHEN THEY DONT PRACTICE IT THEMSELVES. I LOVE THE OBAMAS BUT IM GLAD THAT WE’RE NOT HOSTING THE OLYMPICS.

RIO BABY! BACK TO WORK MR PRESIDENT, WE HAVE MORE PRESSING ISSUES THEN THE DAMN OLYMPICS. I AGREE WITH THE COMMENTS THAT CHICAGO NEEDS TO SELF REFLECT AND MAYBE THAT STAR POWER SHOULD BE USED TO NOW CHANGE THE CITY, STARTING WITH ITS CORRUPT LOCAL GOVERNMENT, SCHOOLS, POVERTY etc etc etc etc.

So they didn’t get the bid, big whoop…..neither did madrid or tokyo.

If I were President Obama I wouldn’t mind getting away from the kids for a couple days so I could bang out my wife in another country….no wonder Michele can’t stop smiling lol

I spent the summer in Brazil. Although Rio is extremely beautiful and culturally diverse, Brazil has a host of issues, child prostitution, slavery still exists in the interior, thousands of hungry Afro Brazilian street children, and extreme poverty. There are enormous human rights violations in this country, however, it is so corrupt there they powers that be might be influential in getting the bid there. Sorry, Obama you did not play the corruption game and is a leader who refuses to do so. We love you anyway!

@ Dee and Lena and by example Rio& Brazil are safe? As beautiful as they can be Rio is dangerous beyond the norm, where a 40 yr old white man can go and date and have sex with a 9 yr boy or girl in public & no1 bats an eye? Oh ya that’s safe and quite uplifiting…NOT.

and Brazil uses poor people to traffic drugs and wants a mad man to remain in power in Honduras so much so that they are granting aslyum while he tries to regain his chokehold on Hondurans.

I’m not saying the Chi don’t need to clean house but Rio & Brazil shouldn’t be in the running either.

Did you really think they would have picked Chi-Town to host the Olympics after the headlines of an innocent honor student being killed just a few days ago. I think not. Chicago has a lot of mess to clean up first.

There is nothing particularly special about Chicago…Tokyo is one of the coolest cities I have ever visited they would have put on a show for the world had they been choosen.
Really though, Obama should focus more on keeping America from collapsing ,than on these side issues.

I’m glad Rio got it. A South American country has never had it, and Madrid has had it already. The United States has had it plenty of time, and although Tokyo is not in China, we just had it in China last year (although I know Tokyo would have shown out with their opening performance). To be honest I don’t think it would have been interesting to have it in Chicago anyway. And I don’t think there is really anywhere else to have it in the states. Both SF and NY are way too crowded.

Tru dat Aries_Blu. The United States had the Olympics numerous times in the past. Every country should get the chance to host the Olympics although I knew they were’nt going to cut Obama any slack. We’re living in HaterNation right now.
