Rihanna’s hair looks nice.
The interview CL posted yesterday made me like her again.

Serena’s wig or whatever that is looks nice.

Too lazy to click on the pictures so those are the only two I’m commenting on.

wasn’t Rihanna given this honor BEFORE she spoke out about Domestic Violence? Looks like they just gave it to her just to give it to her and I don’t like that. She doesn’t deserve to be honored with those women..not now anyway.

Glamour Magazine gets TWO THUMBS DOWN FOR THAT!

dont take this the wrong way but since when is GLAMOUR magazine about all black women? or is CL only posting the pics of the black celebrities?

Rihanna looks great.only she can rock something like that.

@ 3. You obviously didn’t view ALL THE PHOTOS before you made that comment. But I will say this. This blog gives the black perspective on events and awards (OBVIOUSLY). You want more info, view the video and links I provided in the post.

liya kebede is so freaking gorgeous- that’s a model right there
same for iman- saw her w/o makeup and she still looked younger than her age and beautiful
i LOVE maya angelou-such a wise, earthy woman

congrats to the winners except i’m confused about riri b/c she just spoke out this past friday- she hasn’t done anything for the domestic violence cause so what is she being honored for? congrats to her if it’s something good bu if they just gave it to her, that’s not right

Great Great post I’m glad they honored Rihanna we as women need a voice she may be young but her speaking out definitely made her strong and powerful in my book !!

I totally agree with #2. This award was given out months ago before Rihanna ever spoke out about anything. Seems like a marketing tool. I just find it odd that the event was held after her 20/20 special. A spade is a spade.

With that said, looked like a great event and I’m proud of all the ladies who were deservingly honored.

Just like that piece of paper Rihanna is holding, all crumbled up that’s the way her life is getting ready to be. She used this lie once, but to except an award knowing you dont deserve it, is a low! The rest of them women deserved it especially Maya A. from her wheelchair she has done more in 10 minutes than Rihanna has done in her whole existence in being a so called star. What a shame, Def Jam and Rihanna no better, and Rihanna has yet to take a pic with her mum, they said they were there and I’m for one hoping they take her back to Barbados to learn some self respect! Take Jay with y’all.

Im so fed up with Hollywood & its fakeness. ”Rihanna’s stance on domestic violence”??….you have to be kiddding right!
Thats how I know her ”beating” was staged, cuz Rihanna didnt speak out until AFTER she was honoured for the award, so how can they honour her for her ‘’stance” on domestic violence, when she hadnt done no interviews or publically(sp) talk about her ”abuse” until recently.. …………………..I smell a rat!

Rihanna’s award was not just for speaking out about domestic violence. She was also awarded because of the work she was doing with her foundation to help children with terminal illness. Because you haters are so busy hating on rihanna, you don’t even know about some of the things she has been quitely doing behind the scenes. So of course when she gets honored for things, you all are surprised and trying to figure out why.

@ Mari it hinks ppl said those things bc the caption says her stance on DV doesn’t say anything about a charity! but i do remember her going to hospitals and haning out with the patients! thats should have been the caption instead of the DV! bc i know women who really do go out and speak on DV and really help others not just trying to promote their album! but taking nothing from her she is the biggest name in the game right now and i’m sure her interview did reach out to some young girl who needs help! but if you gone milk it, milk it right!

RIHANNA WAS GIVEN THIS AWARD BECAUSE OF HER PHILANTHROPY… ASIDE FROM DOMESTIC VIOLENCE!!! SHE STARTED A CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION CALLED BELIEVE!!! SHE HAS A HANDBAG LINE WITH GUCCI CALLED THE TATTOO HEART COLLECTION AND THE PROFITS GO TO CHARITY. SHE SAVED A LITTLE GIRL’S LIFE AND FOUND HER A BONE MARROW DONER WHEN DOCTORS WERE ABOUT TO LOSE HOPE!!! YOU PEOPLE WHO SAY SHE DIDN’T DESERVE THIS OBVIOUSLY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT HER!!!!!!!!!!!!

“STANCE ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE”

all she did was talk on 20/20, ONLY to promote her album. When i see pics of her walking out of a counseling center for young women instead of a restaurant in a sheer top then i’ll call it a “stance”

@Kirs in Dallas

Amy Poehler hasn’t done anything but be funny, Serena Williams has accomplished a lot in her career this year, but what has she done for community service? Everyone was being honored for different things, and Rihanna did deserve to be honored for her philanthropy. Whether people want to accept it or not, she did have an impact on domestic violence victims. After her interview the calls to the domestic violence hot line increased by 59% and calls to the teen domestic violence hotliint increased by 73%. She stated that she does not want to be the spokesperson for DV, but despite that, her ordeal has still impacted people’s lives, especially young girls who were embarrassed of their situation. Rihanna has many foundations for children, but people never talk about that, because they are too busy trying to focus on the Chris Brown scandal. If people look past that, they will see that she is truly trying to make a difference in this world.

Tyra B, Kerry W, and Liya look beautiful.

Serena’s dress is a little .. boring? I’m sure she could have gone for a more glamourous dress.

Zoe looks under-dressed, kinda scruffy. She looks as though she’s hitting the club!

Rihanna’s make up is perfect, but the HAIR? Her hair is a joke. I think her stylist was trying to go for the Lady Gaga look, you know, the eccentric dress with the exaggerated ruffles? It doesn’t suit Rihanna at all.

MikaDee, lol you haven’t figured it out yet??? All of this “domestic violence” nonsense for Rihanna was staged for publicity and glory for her album and just in general. This doesn’t include you, but people have to be really naive or in denial to deny that. Domestic Violence is nothing to be played with and I would’ve respected someone like Whitney Houston, who went through drug abuse and A REAL domestic violence relation; not someone who got caught up in something for ONLY ONE NIGHT.
Plus, there was nothing mentioned about her helping kids with illnesses for that title. What celebrity don’t you know visit kids or donate to charity? Celebs do that all the time.

Anyway, Rihanna’s dress is a mess. WTF is that? It looks like someone took extra material, folded it, and pressed it on the side of her dress all in 5 minutes.

Estelle looks great, I love the casual but stylish look. I know she brought the house down with her performance.

Iman looks wonderful to be in her fifties… at least with the makeup on.

Serena dressed appropriately for the event, but that dress is a miss.

@67 What has she done for women who have suffered DV? She told her story, and she didn’t have to. She’s showing women you can move from that kind of situation with grace. That’s enough. Regardless of what she wore this summer. And a Beyonce fan has some nerve to go there about wardrobe. Coochie-popping in a barely-there leotard (for over a year!!!!) is a heck of a lot smuttier imo.

all the ladies…congratulations for contributing your time for the awareness and your strength.

I hope all that comments here will do a little volunteering any program, it does not necessary have to be something that has hit at home. Any volunteerism from your part can affect a community…letting them know you care. Giving canned foods is also a method of sharing if you don’t have the time to spare.

Some of you who don’t like Rihanna…take this as a chance to see how one person that speaks can affect everyone…she did help those who were afraid to say anything. It’s already known that the calls to DV increased by more than 50%, so the problem exists. You may be going through it also but you don’t know, coming up with excuses and tearing down others will not help boost your self confidence…the problem will still remain.

@83 She may have won the award before the interview, but they may have already known she was going to do the interview. And, it’s a “Woman of the Year” award for Glamour mag-Rihanna is the most glam star on the planet in alot of people’s eyes. So you’r hating, snarky opinion is so irrelevant right now:-)

And I can read extremely well, you’re the one with no memory. You clearly mentioned somehting about how skimpily-dressed Rihanna was this summer, that’s why I was deflecting your wardrobe argument. It sounded like you were insinuating that b/c she was scanitly clad that further proves she is not deserving of this award which is totally absurd.

And as far as Beyonce goes-it doesn’t matter if it’s a stage costume…some strippers have done less coochie thrusting in more clothing than she does on the stage. I’m cool with her performance style, but I think it is hypocritical for one of her fans to talk about how Rihanna dresses when Bey barely keeps her cooch covered onstage in front of millions of people!

EVEN IF SHE WENT TO SHELTERS AND SPOKE YOU B!TCHES STILL WOULDN’T BE SATISFIED. YOU WOULD SAY SHE IS DOING IT FOR PUBLICITY AND IT’S NOT SINCERE. NO MATTER WHAT SHE DOES IT WILL NEVER SATISFY A HATER! YOU WILL HATE NO MATTER WHAT SHE DOES!

GLAMOUR GAVE IT TO HER. THEY FELT SHE WAS WORTHY. IT’S NOT YOUR DECISION TO MAKE. IF YOU CARE SO MUCH ABOUT DV…YOU CAN GO DO SOMETHING YOURSELF IF RIHANNA ISN’T DOING ENOUGH FOR YOU. OTHERWISE STFU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maya Angelou: beacon of light for the plight of women. Thank you.

Euna Lee and Laura Ling: incredible because those North Korean gulags are a verifiable death sentence and it’s a miracle (ok, Bill Clinton) that they even back on American soil.

Serena: will go down in history as one of the most formidable tennis greats of all time.

Susan Rice: because ambassadors foster intercultural exchange

Rhianna: *crickets* (Maybe If I manage a public beatdown I’ll get an award, too).

^^^^^RIHANNA COULD ALSO BE CONSIDERED “A BEACON OF LIGHT FOR THE PLIGHT OF WOMEN” SHE CERTAINLY SHINED A LIGHT ON SOMETHING THAT MILLIONS OF WOMEN GO THROUGH. LOOOOOOONG BEFORE SHE EVER SAT DOWN AND SPOKE SHE HAD ALREADY HELPED MILLIONS TO COME FORWARD WITH THEIR OWN STORIES AND INSPIRED MILLIONS TO GET OUT. SHE HAD ALREADY DONE THAT BEFORE 20/20. IF YOU HATE HER OF COURSE YOU WON’T SEE IT. IT’S ALL RELATIVE. SOME WOMEN ARE INSPIRED BY MAYA ANGELOU. SOME WOMEN ARE INSPIRED BY RIHANNA.

I ATTENDED THIS EVENT. SOME OF THE COMMENTS ARE SIMPLY NOT TRUE.
RIHANNA WAS GIVEN THE “BACK ON TOP” WOMAN OF THE YEAR AWARD. IF YOU LOOK AT WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN HER LIFE IN 2009 THEN YOU SEE WHY THE AWARD DOES IN FACT MAKE SENSE. GLAMOUR PICKED THESE HONOREES FOR GOOD REASONS. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM DESERVED THE AWARDS THEY RECEIVED.

pls stop defending rihanna, its all bullsh*t and you know it. i can find 3 woman on the street who do more for DV than her. stop. she inspires children and that is beautiful, but her team had this planned, lets be real for a min. I used to love her, but after diane swayer, i cant even call myself a fan. her arrogance is astounding (outside of the DV issue). to me she is still a new celeb who hasn’t proven her worth (record sales mean nothing) i want to see what she really has inside her, not this manufactured BS. sorry

“RECORD SALES MEAN NOTHING”

OH REALLY? HMMM I THOUGHT THAT WAS HER JOB. SHE DOES IT WELL.

SORRY IF YOU’RE MAD. YOU WILL JUST HAVE TO STAY MAD. RIHANNA IS INSPIRING MUCH MORE THAN JUST CHILDREN. SHE HAS STARTED A MOVEMENT. WOMEN ALL OVER THE WORLD ARE HEARING HER MESSAGE “EFF LOVE” AND THEY ARE TAKING A STANCE, GETTING OUT OF THEIR ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS, AND GETTING THE HELP THAT THEY NEED. BY NOT BEING ASHAMED TO COME FORWARD SHE GIVES OTHER WOMEN IN EVEN WORSE SITUATIONS THE COURAGE TO DO THE SAME. I DON’T GET WHY IT’S ALL B.S. HELL SHE DIDN’T BEAT HERSELF IN THE FACE. CHRIS BROWN DID THAT. SO YES SHE IS A VICTIM. SHE HAS OVERCOME IT AND IS MOVING ON TO BIGGER AND BETTER THINGS. YOU DON’T HAVE TO LIKE HER MUSIC OR HER BUT DON’T MAKE THIS SITUATION ABOUT SOMETHING OTHER THAN WHAT IT IS. HER ARROGANCE AS YOU CALL IT IS NOTHING MORE THAN A STRONG YOUNG WOMAN STANDING UP FOR HERSELF IN THE MIDST OF PEOPLE (LIKE YOU) BLAMING HER FOR WHAT SOME PUNK DID. HE MADE THE CHOICE TO ATTACK AND CAUSED ALL OF THIS BACKLASH FOR THE BOTH OF THEM. WHAT ABOUT HIS ARROGANCE?? HE HAS BEEN ALL OVER THE PLACE LAID UP WITH HALF NAKED WOMEN AND WEARING OOPS CHAINS. HE GETS A PASS THOUGH RIGHT? TO ME THAT IS THE B.S.

@101 “RECORD SALES MEAN NOTHING”

OH REALLY? HMMM I THOUGHT THAT WAS HER JOB. SHE DOES IT WELL.

I think what shes trying to say is you can sell as many records as you want. If it has no quality what so ever, then it doesn’t mean anything, because its not real music. On a previous post, I said I bought her album because I wanted to see how it sound. I was so disappointed in it that a got my receipt out my garbage so I could get my money back. I would take quality over quantity anyday because in the long run thats what matters, not how many records you sell.

Angel clearly did this for laughs because Rihanna’s award was not for domestic violence and if I was a victim of domestic violence I wouldn’t find that joke funny but rather insulting to the women who actually go thru it. She was honored at the ceremony for her philanthropic work and turning her own experiences into positive ones for young girls. I believe her award was actually called the Back On Top award. I think that was bad taste on your part Angel.

@ 106 Amen !!!!

I also heard after Rihanna told her side of the story the percentage rate of domestic violenece reports increased amongst both teens and adult women.

She has never tried or profess to be the new poster child for domestic violence.

All Rihanna did was tell her side of the story. Now, I do not care if it took her 9 days, 9 weeks, 9 mpnths, or 9 years. THE GIRL TOLD HER SIDE OF THE STORY !

But, once again the idiots out there have a problem with her. These must be the same idiots that kept their kids out of school when President wanted to give back to scholl speech.

I swear sometime the people in this country is so damn backward.

God bless her and comgrats on your award girl. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP !!

how come whitney houston or tuna turner were not awarded for domestic violence but they pick rinky dink rihanna. there is def something going on and a def push for her becuase whitney houstons album recently was released and she did that interview with oprah so how come no award for her? i mean she finally left bobby. wtf??!!!! she is a real woman who has actual talent and respect for herself and got her daughter out of that mess. yea she had slip ups like ray j but now she is focusing on herself and trying to turn her life around. but rihanna? come on!!!!! this is a joke. can we protest or sign a petition?

how is angel’s comment offensive? i dont get it. she simply listed what the women were awarded for.

im sorry but dammit tyra needs bangs to cover that massive dome. wtf she got on and serena? their clothes look like they need to be dry cleaned and steamed and like they got it at a thrift store.

as i said before we are all being played and this was to replace britney spears with rihanna and make her the new pop icon/teen. see how they are trying to get her with justin timberlake too. rihanna is hungry for fame and will stop at nothing to get to the top. parents, do not let your young girls follow or look up to this chick

@ LOL #92

Forgive my oversight. My comment should have read:

Maya Angelou: a vertitable artist (read: a SKILLED adept) who through intellectual prowess and decades of formidable expressive output is the “beacon of light for the plight of women.”

Rhianna’s award is premature. There are plenty of other celebrities who travel to Capitol Hill in order to speak before Congress about the issues that they want to publicize. Or repeatedly (read: REPEATEDLY) organize fundrasiers in order to raise money. Or do television spots to talk about their philanthropic projects (you know, like when they don’t have an album or a movie that’s about to drop). Or meet with leading activists in order to strengthen the polemical base for their causes. So, until there are more pictures of her helping the disenfranchised and the unfortunate rather than strutting out of clubs with her entourage in tow, she will continue to remain the least qualified to have received this award.

The best revenge she could have displayed to me and the nosy twisted media and to her fans were, to remain positive to show CHRIS DIDNT STOP HER FROM RISIN .the best part about being an artist is you can makle music thats speaks louder then words. she instead got gun tats.

4example, instad of songs like russian roulette she could have made songs like AALIYAHs “NEVER NO MORE” OR “I REFUSE”..,..now thats empowering music that will make one want to act in a positive way vs negative. and also not appearing on the cover like the Devils daughter.
