I’m sorry but every song that is being released is getting worst! That song is not hot and her trying to mask it with her accent was even a bigger mistake. Just to preface, although we are fans of Queen B, we am not going to hate another artist simply because of that. We have liked almost all of Rih’s songs and We don’t hate her as a person; We don’t know her, and it’s unfair to attack someone personally when you don’t.
Moving on, although Rihanna is far from the best performer out there , her people usually make sure she comes with smashes (e.g. Umbrella, Take A Bow, Disturbia, S.O.S- which we didn’t like but was still a hit, and we knew it would be.) because they know she doesn’t have much else to fall back on. She has very little singing ability, though when she doesn’t belt notes she has a pretty nice sounding voice (once again, e.g. in Take A Bow), and cannot really dance (which is surprising as she’s Bajan, but whatever) but she almost always has great songs. Now, After weeks of hype, after watching Rhi seem to do little else but walk the streets, we were expecting J Brown to come through yet again, to give us a smash – not on the same par with Umbrella – cause, let’s face it, those kinda songs don’t come around every day – but maybe something as good as Disturbia.
RR is what we got instead. Despite some admittedly nice lyrics from Ne yo, the beat was not great and the song didn’t WOW us. It just wasn’t good enough as a first single from someone who is not meant to be an it girl, but a singer first and foremost. We agree with some of the above comments that in a recession, and especially at christmas when more people commit suicide than at any other time of the year, it’s not a good idea to release a song that contains connatations of suicide – no matter how metaphorical they may have been intended to be. The part before the final chorus sounds especially dubious, but let’s not go into that. The reason why feel good songs like ‘Down’ by Jay Sean and ‘I Gotta Feeling’ are doing so well this year is cause people need to be uplifted at a time like this.
And, while we were feeling the new ‘edgy’ Rhi of GGGB days (around, Umbrella), however contrived it may have been, it was ‘just dark enough’ – nice haircut, great clothes, new look. She wasn’t dark dark – Marilyn Manson dark, as she now seems to be. It’s not cool. (cont…)

And the Wait Is Ova/ Wait Your Turn or whatever, while it may be slightly better than R.R, is still not the smash we were hoping for; it wouldn’t even have made the B side of Rehab, let alone the GGGB album. With production that sounds like it belongs to three songs rather than one, and Rhi’s weak deeper notes (although we’re feeling the Jamaican accent – the only acceptable part), this is nowhere near the standard of her previous efforts. And we doubt even her stans can say it’s up to it (and we’re not attacking anyone personally; that’s not how we do).
Regardless of the fact that it’s a rough cut, they’re not going to change the production entirely – which is what is required to make it alright.
If this song is a mediocre hit, it will only be (maybe) because of the interview she’s doing on 20/20 where she will ‘break her silence’ (and, please note, they cleverly don’t say she will ‘break her silence’ on the whole Chris Brown affair – so don’t get your hopes up that it’ll reveal any more than his Larry King interview), which we would have been all for – a few months ago when people still really cared and still felt v. disappointed by the whole affair. Not nine months later (though we acknowledge that it may have been difficult for her to talk about it before) when she’s got an album coming out. We hope we’re wrong, but, coincidence? We think not. Perez hilton and Sandra rose, are two bipolar bloggers, who seem to be riding a rihanna see saw. One time she’s good and the hottest thing, (she’s up) the next time they go out and diss her (she’s down). I wouldn’t expect Perez to like this new ri ri song, because its not pop enough for him. Just because she is going back to her reggae tinged roots in this draft, and she went Dark and introspective in RR suddenly he’s not feeling it. When it was umbrella, disturbia, and Rehab or even breaking dishes, he was all into it. Note to rihanna, do you, because you don’t need fairweather and fickle fans, who like you one day and hate you the next just because your not reading from their script. Just concentrate on the fans that consistently has your back, and you’ll be okay.
@tha phoenix, rihanna’s song did a lot better than you are suggesting, it was #35 on the billboard pop chart, and 62 on the billboard R and B as well, and that was just from airplay alone, without it being available for sale. The song is BARELY getting airplay. Most people do not enough know she has a new song out. So i don’t see how it made any charts. I heard it debuted at 100 on the Billboard Hot 100. I actually Like the Russian Roulette Better, Its Haunting & Epic. I Can actually relate to both senses of the song; I get scared to take risque & My Heart does sumtimes Beat Pain & i also can Relate to wanting to Pull the Trigger. But the real Concept of the song when you really listen to it, its about taking Risque even though you know that the outcome could result in you getting hurt; Ultimately Dealth. If you still dont like Russian Roulette after listening to it a couple times via the radio or internet, Try listening through your ear w/ an Audio Device(MP3) with the Base turned up- After doing this I Feel in love w/ this song
