BAYETE NKOSI….yes I love it. Please Jennifer do not mess up our Winnie Mandela. First wife of Nelson Mandela. stood by his side for the independence of South Africa from the British. LOVE IT ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.

  7. hellz no kizzy!

Are you kidding me? I don’t see Jennifer Hudson as Winnie Mandela. No way, no how.

  8. Anonymous

Wow this is going to be a challenging and meaty role. She has plenty of months to prepare for it and if she is working with Morgan Freeman, he will bring out the best in her.

  9. TOONS

I wonder why all the fascination with South Africa all of a sudden? Morgan Freeman is starring in a movie about Mandela, now a Winnie movie. Then there was Discteict 9 which was filmed and set in Joburg. Interesting.

  10. Ra-Ra

That age gap is kinda crazy between Jennifer Hudson and Morgan Freeman……

  11. mrs. sk8board p (ak & bk stan)

    Ummm.. okay

  12. Nadia

Morgan Freeman is NOT playing Nelson Mandela in the movie with JHUD. He is playing one NOW in INVICTUS.

  13. Mikki

    Congratulations!
    This should be interesting…

  14. NOT TODAY!!!!

Ignore the nay sayers….They’re irrelevant for a reason boo boo……..

Keep doing “YOU” honey (what “GOD” intended “YOU” to do).

I couldn’t be more proud of “YOU”, than I already am!

    GO HEAD JENNY :) !

  15. @ #8 I cant believe people are saying she is not right for this part already! So what if Winnie did some not so great things?? Jhud can handle this part, trust.

  16. lovelylady81- dont hate me

thank goodness there are some decent movies about Black ppl coming out. good choice picking j-hud and morgan freeman. look out, ounk, morgan might snatch the baby. hahha– JUST KIDDING. dont start hating a girl w/ a sense of humor

  17. CrunkHam

I Can See Her Playing Her!!! It will be good!!!

  18. Hey

    Cool, she should do well.

  19. FallBackHaters

Oh wow, this will be interesting. Will have to check it out when it’s released. Good on you Jen.

  20. Ayanna

Im sooo sorry but this is a TERRIBLE choice..J.Hud is not a good actress in Sex & The City she was Terrible..I only liked Dream Girls but then again that character wasnt a far stretch….

She is just a horrible actress…I esp. hate how when after she says a line she leaves her mouth open with her lower lip haning like a fuicking retard..

  21. POSITIVE CHICK

Really cool for JHud! This is should be such an honor to play Winnie. Hopefully Jen can pull off the South African accent well

  22. ZIONOLOGY

i love me some jennifer hudson but i think alfre woodard have been a better choice…:)

  23. ZIONOLOGY

i love me some jennifer hudson but i think alfre woodard would have been a better choice…:)

  24. Q.B.

#18 hilarious! Yea this movie should be good.. Congrats to J.Hud

  25. POSITIVE CHICK

@24 I agree, Alfred would be great too. Also my fav actress Kimberly Elise would do good imo (but I guess they needed to cast a younger person..plus since Winnie was a singer, Jhud can fit that role better).

  26. RedbonegotthatKillBill

That might be a good look, I wish her the best!

  27. SMH

@ Ayanna I think you have Beyonce and Jennifer confused. And if you were looking at Sex and the City for good acting then you dont know what good acting is.

  28. Halestorm

I saw Invictus last night at the director’s guild of america. Clint Eastwood did a q & a afterwards. Good movie. But I don’t understand how Morgan Freeman is going to play Mandela in another movie. I also agree with #24, Alfre would be a better choice. She’s a seasoned actress that would be a great compliment to Morgan Freeman and she’s a better age fit. I’m sure the movie won’t center around Winnie singing, so I don’t think that part would be an issue. I like J Hud, but I don’t see this role as a good fit…but then again she might surprise us :)

  29. Classy

This is great! I’m so happy for her getting this role. She deserves it-Jennifer is one of the greatest talents of this generation. I smell another Oscar:-)

  30. Intrigue216

Good for you Jen! An Academy Award winner deserves a role like this. Take that Beyonce. (yeah I know this post has nothing to do with her, I just couldn’t resist, lol)

  31. Meat

    32. Intrigue216,

Your comments about Beyonce are awaiting moderation. lol!

Based on the hair dressing, I think Arethea should have played the role of Winnie.

  32. trina b

Lord Jesus I smell another Oscar. I so love this girl and she is doin the damn thing! Really proud!

  33. ken

Is this gonna be a musical ?

  34. Dee Dee

  35. Still maintaining

  37. diva1up

Good for her i wonder who else audition

  38. Misha

Damn, Jennifer is doing the damn thing. Another Oscar is definitely possible.

  39. LULU

    I know that’s right Jennifer.

  40. Confucius08

    Jennifer, you better do it!!!!

  41. DeJuggler

appears that all doors open after the oath, huh Jen. Your little brother, this is worth your lil brother’s life. No I can’t be silent on this issue. Your mom’s, even a big brother, but your lil brother. No. Nothing is worth your family. Now what do you have possessions. Lifeless possessions. Nah, your a slobbering quivering, sobbing. Fuck that tell the people you had your family ritually sacrificed for . . . . . .

  42. Ayanna

I dont like Beyonce’s acting either (she’s worse)……& let me re-state that ..J. Hud still stinks in everything she’s been in except DreamGirls…but I didnt consider that acting…just a plain character with lots of stank attitude….a role any typical black woman can play….ohhh…watch it catch fire!!! lol

  43. zEN

BAYETE NKOSI….yes I love it. Please Jennifer do not mess up our Winnie Mandela. First wife of Nelson Mandela. stood by his side for the independence of South Africa from the British. LOVE IT ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.

    @ # 7
You need to get your history straight. It was independence from the Boers (Dutch Afrikaaners).

  44. RIHANNA=QUEEN OF THE DECADE!

  45. Misssixty

    @43 Die Slow!
How dare you take this womans tragedy and warp it into your feeble minded conspiracys! -you people are disgusting!

That being said, Im a little on the fence with this one. I agree that Alfre Woodard, or Kimberly Elise wouldve mastered this role!
But I hope Jen does it justice, its a very complicated character to play.

  46. Miss Nomie

Winnie Mandela was never a singer she was a social worker, I think this movie is based on the book ”Long walk to freedom” Morgan Freeman always wanted to be the one to play Madiba ( Mandela) if they made a movie, anyway Winnie is a beautiful woman who aged so well hope like someone said she will b able to master the South African accent and potray Winnie very well.

  47. mphsmade

congrats to her. Jennifer Hudson is an amazing talent.

  48. Giselle

She better get her Oscar acceptance speech ready. This should be good.

  49. kaykay

ooh beyonce’s mad! she shouldn’t be though…the mandela’s are all the rage these days, first the movie w/morgan freeman and now this…good for Jenny

  50. hmm

I wonder if this movie will address winnie’s hand in human rights violations committed on her orders…

  51. nomtha

when will our country ever going to use its our talent instead of using actors from oversee in order to get international recognition. i hope she is going to learn the accent and portray Winnie like she is…. congrats to her.

  52. Talulazoeapple

Yeah, Jenny from the Block is back doing her thang!!! Love it. Can’t wait for the Christmas special!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blessings and favor to you and your family!

  53. Afrikan Kween

@46 South Africa gained independence from the British. It was the Afrikaaners who came up with the policy of apartheid.

BTW Winnie was never a singer. And i just hope Jen doesnt butcher our accent like all the American actors who play South African roles

  54. MS.LABEJA

I find it odd, that this post has nothing to do with Beyonce, yet some of y’all(probably the beyonce haters) can’t keep her name out of your mouths! LOL, Beyonce got some of y’all bothered and bitter. Anyways Alfre Woodard or Kimberly Elise would kill this role.Jhud is just not a great actress.

  55. mama..m

yeah Jennifer is just the right person to play the part..congratulations gal and please nail the role..

  56. wtf

    @ Ms Labeja
Oh please! Beyonce is not that serious. People bring up other artists on a post that has nothing to do with them all the time. Calm down.
