Some of you may remember the Artist Spotlight we did on upcoming singer/songwriter/musician Mateo a couple months ago. Well here is the official video for his song, “Get To Know Me” off of his recently released live EP “Get To Know Me: Live at Swing House.”
His performance was done in one take along with an 8 piece backing band and shot by director Josh Caldwell. The video also gives you a real perspective of life on tour for an artist on the rise. It features documentary style footage of Mateo on the 40-city national college tour that he’s on right now.

when you first posted the artist spotlight I really wasn’t into him, I thought he was boring but now I take that back. He has definitely grown on me and I can appreciate what he’s doing. I’m not sure that it will go mainstream but it will definitely create its own path and tell its own story. Keep doing your thing young man

I’m so glad to see a spotlight on Mateo again! I don’t remember how I came across him earlier this year, but I’ve really enjoyed following him ever since. I’ve heard his mixtapes, and I’m especially anxious to see what he’ll do with more original material. It’s very exciting to be able to follow an artist from such an early point.

I am so touched to see that people still appreciate real music. This is a lovely song and its so disheartening always seeing these power and attention-hungry artists get so much limelight over their trivial issues and mediorcre music. I hope this is the start of a new time where we appreciate and support more music of substance that means something and can really enrich our lives. In other words, you have my support Mateo!

I had the pleasure of being introduced to Mateo’s music from a homeboy of mine in DC…the songs I heard were covers he did for gnarls barkley crazy as well as Rihanna’s disturbia. I still listen to those songs in my car to this day his voice is soooo beautiful. I always have people askin me who is that singing and I was never able to put a face to the voice until today.
I was shocked to see this video it brought a tear to my eye. This song is amazing and I wish nothing but the best for him in the future. I cant wait to get my copy of this live EP…

I’ve been a fan of his since the Artist Spotlight CL did on him. I listened to “Get To Know Me” like 12 times, back-to-back, then I found both of his mixtapes online, and I’ve been rinsing them on my mp3 player ever since.
He has a great voice but that song was kinda boring. It didn’t go anywhere really. Maybe get some better writers or producers? Just a suggestion.
Off topic: I don’t really buy this struggling myspace artist thing anymore. They used to say Lily Allen was a myspace artist when she was actually signed to a major label. They try to give these up and coming artists an indie image when they are really just as packaged and marketed like any other commercial artist.
