As the date draws nearer to the release of Alicia Keys’s new album, more tracks have started to leak. Here is the sequel to the hugely popular hit collaboration between her and Jay-Z, in the form of “Empire State of Mind, Part 2,” which isn’t too much different from its original, but mostly more acoustic.
Alicia’s new album, Elements of Freedom is set to hit stores December 15th.

Wow. People are just plain mean. Especially when you don’t REALLY know what’s going on and never will. It’s sad when people are more attracted to drama and controversy than music. It used to be about the music not peoples’ personal lives and what they do. But I guess it’s all for your “entertainment”. Anyway, I love the song. It sounds better live.

I don’ t think many outside of the “urban” audience know about this Swizz/Mashonda business. So, it may not impact her sales much. If the album doesn’t sell well, it will probably have more to do with the fact that there don’t seem to be very many top 40 hits, and Alicia’s latest may not be like Rihanna’s new disc, where even though there aren’t many fast, upbeat, radio jingle type songs, the album is still enjoyable enough to listen to straight through.
I know it shouldn’t matter and that I don’t know what went on, but I do see Alicia and Swizz in a different light after this Mashonda situation and not in a positive light.

I love it. It is very soft and the harmonies are great. She probably did part 2 so when she goes out on tour she can perform it becaise she wont have Jay through out the tour.

Great track. And I could care less about who she gives the business to as long as the music is on point.
A.K is unstoppaable. People are patiently waiting for her signature sound. What people fail to realize is that she is more than a singer/writing. She is a muscian, meaning that she creates her music. It is organic and fresh. It may take time to get use to because it is not your everyday sound, BUT that is what makes her unique and in a league of your own. She doesn’t call on Neyo, or BCox, or any Hot producer out because all of her success is built on her own creativity. Hence 12 grammys, she has earned respect in this industry because she is doing what no other female artist can do. That is why she is special. So what if her voice is has perfect as other artist…No one is 100% perfect, but she is the closest one. Singer/writer/producer/pianist/guitarist/…It is no wonder her first album sold 12 million WW, her second, 8 million WW, her third, 6 million WW, not to mention her unplugged album which sold 2.5 million WW. You people are crazy, talking bad about this womans craft is ridiculous. Her personal life, is just that, personal.

I agree with Blackstar. Alicia is great at what she does. I wish people could just appreciate her for that and not worry about what goes on in her bedroom. There are only a VERY select few that are able to do all that she does. A. Keys and Prince are 2 that come to mind right away.

B’Day and GGGB only outsold As I Am because they both had crossover appeal and WW appeal. Real Urban music like A. Keys don’t sell well WW. For what it was, As I Am sold very well. As I Am outsold B’Day and GGGB in the USA (the largest market) without re-releases, which both of the other albums had. Rihanna is not a strong album seller. GGGB was an anomaly.

I haven’t felt ANY of the material she’s been dropping since the Diary album! I don’t know what she changed about her formula but I wish she’d get back to one she had on that album. Diary is a classic.

I want to first start of by saying i love alicia keys and can’t wait til dec.15th for the album loving every song so far……also you can’t compare alicia,beyonce, or rihanna they are all in a leauge of there own……each artist has different style and taste in music and that is what keeps us entertained……i think the music industry would be a lil boring if everyone had the same style…….we are always so quick to compare when there is no need to…….why can’t they all have the spotlight……

……….. Alicia Keys doesn’t call on Bryan Michael Cox.. no instead she calls on Linda Perry or John Mayer. People send Alicia Keys music all of the time. Just because she is a “song writer” doesn’t mean that all of her music is completely written just by her. Marsia(sp?) from Floetry has collaborated with her and written some of her music as well. She has sampled from artists like Prince, Eddie Kendricks from the Temptations and so forth like other artists. KANYE WEST who has produced and written many an artist’s “hot titles” produced many songs on her sophomore album — most notably, You Don’t Know My Name which John Legend supplied his background vocals too to hit the high notes since A.Keys range isn’t all that great. Hell, she has even worked with Pharrell. And bet ya didn’t know JD even had a hand in producing some of her music such as Girlfriend on the first album and he produced her first song — Little Drummer Girl — on the 12 Soulful Nights of Xmas compilation album that SoSo Def did back in the 90′s.
I’m not trying to discredit Alicia’s talent — she does have talent. But she isn’t particularly as “great” nor does she serve as the measuring stick of real talent in the industry compared to her peers. Everyone always wants to paint her as some “real musician” who does not have to resort to “hot producers” and so forth. Last time I checked, Dirty Harry — who had a hand in producing No One — has hosted a lot of mixtapes and produced for many other artists – mostly rap – as well. The only difference is that her label and her people keep her ish zipped tight, so no one knows the amount of input she herself puts in… EVERY artist gets demos — Michael Jackson got demos and had other talented artists write for him (again just off the top of my head, Marsia (lol sp?) wrote Butterflies initially). And even though he was able to write things himself and was great at what he did, he still had others contribute to his work.
Also.. just b/c she can play the piano — which isn’t a hard instrument to play — does not mean she is so great. Aretha Franklin played the piano as well. If A.Keys would’ve come out around that time, she probably wouldn’t have made it too far b/c the themes of her songs are cyclic and her voice — though unique — isn’t that damn great. All of that to say… she is BY FAR not in anywhere near the same league as Prince who can play damn near every instrument known to man, and whose music — at least in his prime — scaled so many different dimensions, genres, and topics. A.Keys writes the same cliche things about love, and has even resorted to recycling the same notions repeatedly. While I value her craft, I have seen far better… and hell, talent in this day and age is not even important — image first, talent later.

I never said she has never worked with other great producers and writers. It is always nice and refreshing to blend greatness. However, it is a true statement when I say Alicia has earned her huge success on her own creativity. Read the credits of every song on every record. The MAJORITY of her music is produced and written by her and her music partner Krucial. They have a trademark sound. Yes, she has worked with Marsha on her last album, she had input in “Go ahead,” yes, she has worked with Kanye, who after praised her for her musical genius. Yes, her and John Mayer did “lesson learned” together, writter and produced by the both of the. Yes sha has worked with Linda Perry, who is a super talented writer/producer, who really earned success after Pink reached out to her and brought her out into mainstream. However, even Linda has praised her musical ability. I give credit where it is due. O, let me not forget she worked with JD on her first album as he produced “girlfriend.” And Kandi gets some credit for “Jane Doe.” Having said that, Alicia is in FULL control of her music, and yes she does work with other talented artisit. However, she still creates music that is only organic, that is what muscians do. No, she is not Prince, however, even he has praised her and that is something he NEVER does. She covered “how come you don’t call me” and he RARELY allows that, unless he believes the person is worthy. She has never sampled any other of his songs, “Like you never see me again” was prince inspired but not sampled, check the credits.
She has also, written, produced and arranged songs for other brilliant artist. Christina Aguilera, Mario and let me not forget Whitney Houston.
And of course the Piano is not a “hard” instrument to play…anyone can play classical…That is why soooo many other people play. GTFOH! I respect everything you have said. But playing the piano and singing while doing it, is not easy.
She has worked with Beyone on her upcoming album, lets read the credits. Lets see who produced, arranged, and wrote, what I am sure will be a awesome song.
