‘ROUND THE WAY: RIHANNA OPENS UP IN GLAMOUR MAG - “I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears..”
Tuesday, November 3, 2009

Rihanna, who is currently on a media blitz this week, recently sat down for a candid interview with Glamour Magazine. She is being honored by the magazine next week in NYC and has been given the title of ‘Glamour Woman Of The Year’ alongside Michelle Obama, Maya Angelou, Serena Williams and others.
In the article, she opens up a bit about the aftermath of the Grammy night incident with former boyfriend Chris Brown. Read some key snippets below:
On the leaked photo of her battered face:
It was humiliating; that is not a photo you would show to anybody. I felt completely taken advantage of. I felt like people were making it into a fun topic on the Internet, and it’s my life. I was disappointed, especially when I found out the photo was [supposedly leaked by] two women. On the aftermath:
It has taught me so much. I felt like I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears. That was the level of media chaos that happened the next day. It was like, What, there are helicopters circling my house? There are 100 people in my cul-de-sac? What do you mean, I can’t go back home?My friends and family have been extremely supportive, and everyone has been there for me. But at some point you are there alone. It’s a lonely place to be—no one can understand. That’s when you get close to God.

On Domestic Violence:
Domestic violence is a big secret. No kid goes around and lets people know their parents fight. Teenage girls can’t tell their parents that their boyfriend beat them up. You don’t dare let your neighbor know that you fight. It’s one of the things we [women] will hide, because it’s embarrassing. My story was broadcast all over the world for people to see, and they have followed every step of my recovery. The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn’t heard. Now I can help speak for those women.
On finding love one day:
I hope I find love in the next 10 years—that will be pretty annoying if I am 31 and still have never been in love!

@ WTF N Parisian…
Parisian if the truth hurts let it be… YES IT IS that serious! you 2 clearly have no idea, no clue, concept about the magnitude of what Rhianna and others in the music industry have planned for ignorant folks like you. Look at the blade on her album cover, some of it is so CLEAR yet you refuse to listen, it’s as if you enjoy being blinded, and in the dark…
Unfortunately during judgement no one is going to say “oh your 21, too young…for hell. Rhianna might be a mind controlled puppet, but she is a CONCENTING adult by the law and and has WILLINGLY submitted herself to be an agent of the devil that runs the industry. SHE IS very aware of what is happening.
I am a human being and have sinned, and will sin, what I will never do is bring down my fellow brothers and sisters, to join me into my sinful nature, parading on stage in nothing but neglige.
Yes ur right about 1 thing, i am acting like she killed my whole family, because for some that will blindly follow her here on earth and unfortunately to the depths of hell, its TOO LATE!some I know will be those that the Jesus came on earth to die for. I am passionate about human life, as its her job to lead astray, i feel it’s mine to lead ppl to the right path … When Jigga says “this aint a no 1 record it’s assault with a deadly weapon”, he aint lying…. You will be a fool in hell when them demons are torturing you…laughing in your face tellin you we told you the truth and your dumb ass still followed us. When Beyonce is telling you this is a stick up, gimme your money, you fools rush to go make her richer buying her CD. while she flaunts her ass in your face. ppl take they’re families to watch her strip shows (concerts) perverting your minds with lust.Rhi is practically telling u to shoot yourself dead, and now it’s art… metaphors.
Hell is for real, and forever. Choice is yours

Woman of the Year? Really? How has she bettered out society or helped humankind forward itself positively at ALL? All she’s done is strut around NYC/etc. with her titties hanging out in see-through dresses. That’s nothing to be inspired by.
Bitch, gtfo. You haven’t done a DAMN thing to deserve “Woman of the Year”. Plenty of women get their asses beat, what the hell makes you so special?

One, the devil is also considered a GOD so stans no need to get all geeked off that comment it doesn’t mean she was talking about your God. 2nd, why is the word HATE thrown around so loosely? Can’t it just be called having COMMON SENSE? common sense to see that she’s doing interviews “coincidentally” before her album drops? 3rd, why should she be given the title “Woman Of The Year”? what has she done to earn that title? and to be placed with women like Michelle Obama or Maya Angelou? This is not hating this is common sense. You dumb stans have to be more logical than this. Home girl is not payin your bills no reason to defend her.

This is what you fail to get. What a few people say on urban blogs means nothing.
A VAST NUMBER of Americans (and people all over the WORLD) support Rihanna NOT the woman beater Chris Brown. Women who are victims of domestic violence 90% of the time return to the abuser. This is a FACT! Rihanna meeting with Chris in Miami is typical. It in no way diminishes the violence he unleashed upon. Why do you think the STATE prosecuted Chris Brown without Rihanna??? And the STATE also would have had her come to court to testify under OATH. These are the reasons that Chris PLEAD guilty. Because women in these relationships are emotionally dependent on the ABUSERS. So you need to educate yourself on this case and domestic Violence. I’m SO sick of the IGNORANCE from other women!
There is no reason for you and others to claim “you don’t support her”.
Most women (who are educated) support Rihanna 100%. She did nothing to deserve that level of VIOLENCE from a man who claimed to love her.
She is a strong woman for enduring that level of Violence in such a public way.
This is why she is Woman of the YEAR. This is why she has so many NEW FANS. This is why she is on GMA and 20/20.
This is why her CD will be NUMBER 1

I find it very disturbing that WOMEN are going HARD on Rihanna. It is absolutely true that we do not know what went down between Rihanna and Chris doing their relationship or that night. BUT, it does NOT at all excuse him for BEATING her and saying he will “kill her”. I wonder if you where in her position, a man repeatedly pounded your face with his fist, a man you love, repeatedly said he wanted to kill you, would you want to be that girl? The girl everyone turned against and said it was your fought your man chocked, kicked, and bit you.
Forgive Chris? Absolutely, he should be forgiven. But forgiven him doesn’t mean you drag Rihanna through the mud again!!
Chris, is a young man that has time and room to grow. I pray that he doesn’t do this again. I pray both grow and truely learn from this situation. I am a fan of both. but if he was a brother of mine I wouldn’t condone his actions and if she was a sister of mine I would be pissed off and ready to call pookie and them on him. Only time will tell what this will do for them personally and professionally.
I TRUELY WISH BOTH SUCCESS!!!

I do know that the abused return to abusers, but Rihanna is anything but typical. Both their camps made a huge PR mistake by letting the world know that they were still communicating with each other. I still dont believe she was actually in Miami, there were no photos of her, but whole thing was tacky regardless. They should have said she was in Bardados or had fallen off the face of the earth for a while after that, as far as Im concerned. And yes blogs are just blogs and do not speak for the whole world but I know she recieved a lot of hate for not going diary of a mad black woman on him in those weeks that followed.

A lot of people on here are as dumb as rocks.
1. OF COURSE she’s doing it for publicity. Who DOESN’T???? Chris-the-felon-Brown has an album dropping soon too. Why is it ok for him to talk endlessly about it but she can’t?
2. It’s GLAMOUR magazine. Not TIME or NEWSWEEK. What the fuck is wrong with you people??? Their woman of their year has included such notables in the past of Victoria Beckham. Now what has SHE done for the world recently? It’s based on glamour, and fashion and newsmaking ability. Rihanna has done all three so here we are. What’s the big fucking deal?
3.It’s taken her nine months to come out with her side. So, if she had given an interview the day after, would that have been alright? SHe took the time to figure things out, went from seeing her abuser secretly to realising she could do better and dropping him like the hot potato, crazy ass pyscho he is. It’s called growing up and getting a clue. Something a lot of people that post on here could do with quite frankly.
Dumb as rocks I say!

LOL cute that ppl are saying she’s addressing it because she’s promoting her album and they’re gonna ask her..ARE U SERIOUS?
When she was strutting down the block showing her titties or Kissing Drake, or sitting on the lap of the married Rep from a label she coulda been addressing the situation…But no she preferred to be a pop and save the addressing for when the album is to release…
ITS ALL ABOUT GETTING SYMPATHY FROM PPL TO GET ALBUM SALES…@ the end of the day Artists say anything to get their name out there and money for the label…
Be foolish if ya wanna but if Rihanna was speaking @ a domestic violence place or even a school on the subject it woulda been plastered all over the internet…Why wait so long when you coulda helped prolly millions of females(and possibly males) months ago?
ITS ALL ABOUT THE PAPER!

For everyone who says the majority is “hating”, people are just calling it the way they see it!
No one says she has to discuss what happened to her at all…EVER! She can make sure her people tells interviewers not to ask questions about the incident and she can say no comment.
So for her to all of a sudden to open up and want to be a role model for domestic abuse around the time her album drops seems EXTREMELY suspect and insincere.
In my opinion it has been blatantly obvious that Rihanna is nothing more than a puppet for her people. Yea she can dress but I haven’t seen a glimmer of personality since she first came out.

This whole thing is sickening and disturbing. Rhianna protected him, after he whooped her behind. Some people say that oh, they are young, whatever that little girl, got stumped on, and then afterwards still kicked with him,and refused to testify against him. And didn’t they want the charges dropped? she took her silly butt down to the courthouse and defended him. I’m sorry but with that mentality she should keep her immature butt in Barbados with that uncivilized mentality. Women and men are beaten everyday and can’t stand up for themselves because of their culture, but here in the States, women can stand up . So, she needs to keep her mouth shut, frankly, I don’t understand why are we still talking about her. At this point anything she says is irrelevant. Somebody must have really threaten her career for her not to be against getting smacked around.

disgjusting horrible shameful pick for Woman of the Year!! First of all, there is NOTHING great about this woman. I had never heard of her until she was beat up. Second of all, she should be ASHAMED of herself for the message that she sends to young women! Rihanna is a horrible role model and a horrible pick for Woman of the Year. Some people are so ignorant and hateful toward women.
Of course she has to talk about this now when she has an album coming out…because she has no choice! She can’t just do interviews about her music and what she did this summer and act like the incident never happened.
I don’t think she ever really wanted to talk about the abuse, but now she has to b/c it’s at the forefront of everyone’s consciousness when she does an interview. Rihanna is not trying to use the “victim” thing to sell records (how absurd!!!)-the topic HAS to be addressed-she has no choice.

So how come now she is back, she still cain’t sing, she still cain’t dance, and she is three times as ugly as she was before and even her hair ain’t been did properly? And to those who say she is no role model, I don’t know how you figure that. She is a very young woman who suffered a traumatic and embarrassing tribulation in front of the whole world and has found a way to heal, feel comfortable with herself again and start working again.
She does not dress or act any worse or differently than the other young starlets, so using her clothing choices as a basis for psycho analysis when it comes to Rihanna needs to stop. She is an incredibly gorgeous, sweet and talented young woman with a fierce sense of fashion and style. What’s not to admire?
I am not so inspired by people who have perfect lives and have the best luck and never have to go through anything, I am more inspired by people who have trials and make it through them like Rihanna, Mary J., Jennifer Hudson and Britney. Rihanna has all of my respect for making it out of her situation, and I wish her continued success.
It’s a shame so many women feel the need to persecute and judge this embattled lady. It’s a shame, and it’s disgusting.

Excuse me, but I have never posted on a blog site in my life despite the fact that most of the comments on them appall me. I am 21 years old and quite frankly these comments make me ashamed to be a female, a black female at that. Me being the same age as Rihanna, can only understand what she has gone through this past year. I’m a normal 21 year old girl in college and it’s hard enough. At this point in life you are in transition barely figuring out who you are and what your purpose in life really is. I know this, because I’ve spent countless nights crying myself to sleep because I’m lost. I come from a very accomplished background and after a while I became susceptible to failure and more vulnerable to pain. It’s a hard thing to go through, but a part of life. I’m sure many of the older people posting negative comments about this young, black female have experienced the same thing. That’s why it’s hard for me to fathom all of the negativity you are typing. I support Rihanna and I have always supported her ever since “Pon de Replay”. You all say she hasn’t been in the spotlight and been speaking out against domestic violence, but I honestly can’t blame her. If I were in her shoes I would do the same, it’s my God given right. You have to heal yourself before you can heal others. I’ve been emotionally abused and so has my mother. My father never hit my mother even though I’ve always feared the day would come. She’s still with him despite the fact that he drinks his life away and makes her feel worthless. She’s in a very bad place because of him, but sometimes I feel she thinks she needs to stay with him because I have a 10 yr old sister. He doesn’t do anything for my mother or the rest of my family, yet she stays with him because he’s the father of her children and probably because she feels like she can’t get out of it because she’s been with him since high school. It’s complicated. I guess my point is, you never know the entire situation unless it’s your situation. You never know every side to every story. I don’t think it’s right for you to criticize this young woman. If anything, embrace her and if you feel like she’s in a bad place, be the mature person you all think you are and pray for her to rise above all she is going through. Imagine if that was your daughter. She’s already dealing with troubles of being a young woman and discovering yourself and your whole world is shook in the matter of seconds. With that being said, I honestly think she deserves this reward not because she supposedly did sidewalk fashion shows but because she was traumatized and obviously left her in a bad place, but she recovered (and she is still recovering, situations like that take a lifetime to recover from) and she’s turning into something positive. She got abused, but was strong enough to come back and release an album in the same year….. sorry this is so long, but I got carried away and I kind of suck at expressing myself (I haven’t taken public speaking yet).

I can’t believe all you people getting angry with rihanna for not speaking for this “long” period of time, SHE IS THE VICTIM HERE! She went through a traumatic experience….geesh, calm down

WOW . stop the HATE already , DAMN! hating rihanna is a full time job but how much are you getting paid ? nada, nothing , ZERO . so why do it ?
sorry but last time i checked Michelle obama is ONLY the wife of the president … so she follows in her husbands shadow , but what has she DONE To be woman of the year besides getting lucky by marrying a successful black man?
Serena ? ok shes a great tennis player . . .
stop with the double standard … you might think either of these women are better then rihanna or better suited for the “woman of the year title” but Rihanna has her own accomplishments to be proud of . i just cant help but think that if this werent Rihanna or Chris brown in this celeb. domestic violence situation there wouldnt be so much hate surrounding the issue . They were both big starts with millions of fans b4 the incident and this is where the problem lies … if it had been say , Alicia keys getting whooped on by some random ass dude and didnt decide to speak out until almost a year later i doubt she would be getting so much negetivity but that goes to show you … people are ridiculous . I honestly feel bad for this poor girl . but i applaud her , she has to be a STRONG woman to deal with this shit on a daily basis .

Ri shouldnt be “woman of the year’. 2 put her in the same cateogory as Maya Angelous Michelle Obama & Serena Williams is beyond stupid. Glamour just wants 2 sell mags & just for that I WONT be buying the mag.

Yaw people are hater you need to chill. Being an artist does not mean you have to tell everything… And please women don’t act like you have never took any kind of nude or some what not all that respectful picture. Only differences is your no one… Let the girl breath it doesn’t matter about how long she took to talk about it. Would you come right out and say what happen no. It takes time to recover and learn the right ways to carry yourself as a young woman yet still be able to voice your opinion on what happen. Look at Chris he looked like a total asshole on his interviews. Why? Because he was stupid and rush the ish…. So quick to point the finger look at youself…

Yeah this is her season alright. Season to fail.
Without Chris by her side she will not make it.
Chris is coming back with full force power.
He seek ministering & counseling & God. And with that.
You come back strong.
What do Rhianna do to come back strong? Walk the street showing off clothing line? Did she seek counseling about her abuse? ………….
Furious Style ???????? I can hear you!!!!! I guess the mouth is shut …….
Sorry Furious i had to blast you

@ 11, I agree!
I can’t believe Americans are still dumb to the facts, and blacks are falling for it too! Blacks still have not brought up Sean Peen, Tommy Lee, Ringo Starr, John Lennon, Christian Slater, etc, etc. People who are close to them have said, she tried to hit him with her heel, so that’s why he attacked her, and she started it.

LOTS OF WOMEN HAVE TAKEN NUDE{OR PARTIALLY NUDE} PICS. RIHANNA IS NOT THE FIRST. FEMALES OF ALL AGES DO IT FROM TEENAGERS TO GROWN WOMEN IN THEIR 30′S AND 40′S. I KNOW IF THE WOMEN OF CONCRETELOOP DATED CHRIS BROWN AND HE WAS ON THE ROAD AND SAID “BABY SHOW ME YOUR TITTTSSS” YOU WOULD DO IT IN A SECOND LOL! I’M SURE HE SENT HER SOME PICS OF HIS D!CK TOO! THAT’S WHAT COUPLES DO THESE DAYS. I GUESS WE HAVE A BUNCH OF VIRGINS HERE ON THIS SITE. *YEAH RIGHT*

Blacks don’t care about those people. They are white people’s problem not ours! And what does that have to do with Chris Brown? He’s not the first guy to hit a woman. We know that. Still doesn’t make it right though. Stop trying to take focus off of him.

Chris Brown stans are so funny. Chile please Chris hasn’t been doing anything but picking up trash and tweeting about how much he loves and misses Rihanna. If she is so terrible and he is so great why would he want her back?

YES SHE DESERVES THE TITLE OF WOMAN OF THE YEAR FOR ENDURING SO MUCH, HAVING HER NAME DRAGGED THROUGH THE MUD, HAVING PEOPLE JUDGE HER AND TALK ABOUT HER LIKE A DOG. SHE STILL KEPT GOING AND DIDN’T GIVE UP ON HER DREAM. SHE DIDN’T QUIT AND SHE DIDN’T LOSE HER CONFIDENCE. SHE GOT CLOSER TO GOD LIKE SHE SAID AND HE NEVER LEFT HER SIDE. THAT’S WHY SHE WILL BE SUCCESSFUL. THE DEVIL IS ALWAYS BUSY HERE ON CL AND OUT IN THE WORLD TRYING TO MAKE THIS YOUNG LADY FAIL. IF IT’S GOD’S WILL FOR HER TO COME BACK AND BE AN EVEN BIGGER STAR NO ONE CAN STOP HER FROM BECOMING WHO SHE IS MEANT TO BE. NOT CHRIS BROWN GROUPIES OR ANYONE ELSE HAS MORE POWER THAN GOD. GOOD WILL ALWAYS WIN OVER EVIL. SO ALL OF YOUR NEGATIVITY IS ONLY EFFECTING YOU. NOT RIHANNA. SHE IS COVERED BY THE BLOOD OF CHRIST AND SHE WILL BE PROTECTED. EVEN WHEN THAT YOUNG MAN TRIED TO END HER CAREER BY BEATING HER IN HER FACE (HER MONEY MAKER FOR ENDORSEMENTS AND LOOKING BEAUTIFUL ON ALBUM COVERS) IT DIDN’T WORK AND SHE HEALED PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY, AND EMOTIONALLY BECAUSE SHE WAS SURROUNDED BY PEOPLE SENT BY GOD. THEY TOOK CARE OF HER AND MADE SURE SHE WAS OK. THEY LET HER COME BACK WHEN SHE WAS READY TO DO SO. WITH GOD’S HELP SHE WILL CONTINUE TO BE A SUCCESS. SO YES SHE DOES DESERVE THIS PRESTIGIOUS HONOR.

double standard?
Thursday, November 5, 2009 /
I hate the mentality of women. They are still screaming don’t judge Chris but call this girl a wh*re, a pr*stitute, devilworshipper, and anything else. She gets judged daily. The double standard is just ridiculous.
