‘ROUND THE WAY: RIHANNA OPENS UP IN GLAMOUR MAG - “I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears..”

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

Rihanna, who is currently on a media blitz this week, recently sat down for a candid interview with Glamour Magazine. She is being honored by the magazine next week in NYC and has been given the title of ‘Glamour Woman Of The Year’ alongside Michelle Obama, Maya Angelou, Serena Williams and others.

In the article, she opens up a bit about the aftermath of the Grammy night incident with former boyfriend Chris Brown. Read some key snippets below:

On the leaked photo of her battered face:
It was humiliating; that is not a photo you would show to anybody. I felt completely taken advantage of. I felt like people were making it into a fun topic on the Internet, and it’s my life. I was disappointed, especially when I found out the photo was [supposedly leaked by] two women.

On the aftermath:
It has taught me so much. I felt like I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears. That was the level of media chaos that happened the next day. It was like, What, there are helicopters circling my house? There are 100 people in my cul-de-sac? What do you mean, I can’t go back home?

My friends and family have been extremely supportive, and everyone has been there for me. But at some point you are there alone. It’s a lonely place to be—no one can understand. That’s when you get close to God.

On Domestic Violence:
Domestic violence is a big secret. No kid goes around and lets people know their parents fight. Teenage girls can’t tell their parents that their boyfriend beat them up. You don’t dare let your neighbor know that you fight. It’s one of the things we [women] will hide, because it’s embarrassing. My story was broadcast all over the world for people to see, and they have followed every step of my recovery. The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn’t heard. Now I can help speak for those women.

On finding love one day:
I hope I find love in the next 10 years—that will be pretty annoying if I am 31 and still have never been in love!

All of you negative individuals are just pathetic. You are not even able to express yourself properly or correctly hence an indication of the level of intelligence - simply ignorant. Making fun of her accent, how sad. Get real we are talking about America, a melting pot of cultures. Who cares if she has an accent. She has been schooled on an island that is rated in the top 4 territories in the WORLD for its literacy rate! Even with an accent she speaks better English that most of you nutters that comment on this site.

This girl is so young and has accomplished more than most of you could ever dream of and you have the audacity to try to pull her down in such a way. You have not got a clue of all of the positive activity she is involved with - that is not so widely publicised. What are most of you haters out there doing that is positively impacting others’ lives except spending precious time writing negative things about such a hard working and talented indivudual. She went through a hugely traumatic experience and has come out fighting. Rihanna is simply a STAR, and she will continue to be a WORLDWIDE success while most of you are sitting wallowing in negativity and unfulfilled dreams. WOMAN OF THE YEAR SHE IS!!!!!!! Get used to her because she will be around for a long time.

Rihanna’s talent is less than zero, but I still like her songs, because I’m a fool for silly, catchy music *blush*

Chris Brown isn’t the new Marvin Gaye, but he has 1000x more talent than E.T.’s lil sis : )

I feel that she could have talked about abuse and speak out against domestic violence alont time ago. People saying that her lawyers silenced her and because of the trial..bullshit.. she did not have to speak about specifics of what happened to speak out. She did not have to go into detail of what happened in the car to be a face of domestic abuse, I just find it strange that NOW all of a sudden 2 weeks before your album you NOW want to be an advocate. I think it was in poor taste of her camp to ironically allow her to speak out now. It just seems like it was a capitalistc opportunity instead of ginune

This is one gorgeous girl, on the inside and out. It’s unfortunate she had to learn about domestic violence the hard way, but I am glad she is doing the right thing. I still love Chris Brown, but he needs help and they both need to focus on themselves for awhile.
