I like Rihanna but she nor Amy Poehler belong in the women of the year category. Those women are helping save lives. Also I do agree that her PR team is using this incident to sell records. American loves stories like this. This wouldn’t fy in other countries. And sorry but she never reached the level of Britney Spears scrutiny, or else she would have gone crazy like Britney Spears.

after reading the first 10 comments, i had to play devil’s advocate for a bit. while rihanna’s comments are coming at the most obvious time to gain publicity and sales for her new single, i dont think all the blame can be put on her. im sure her lawyers directed her to remain silent until chris brown was officially sentenced (which was just a little over two months ago), while her publicists and managers decided to wait those few months to coincide with her single release on itunes. while i have had the displeasure of running into rihanna quite a few times and am not too fond of her personally, i just think the overall nastiness towards her should be redirected at a broader group of people. also, im sure glamour magazine didnt put into consideration rihanna’s silence when they were choosing their woman of the year, but instead looking at the larger picture of a woman who “overcame” a physically abusive boyfriend and came out “stronger.” i agree that rihanna is NOT the woman of the year, but will hopefully use this title to become the voice that she is claiming to have for all those that are silenced by abuse.

She wants to be the voice for young women yet she’s singing songs about passing a test wt a man who has a gun to head. Sit down Rihanna.

She’s proving to be a genius artist, and she’s experimental and she keeps tapping into different territories with her craft from the island girl sound, to pop, to ballads, to gothic, to whatever people call “dark” which is still just art. All that and she’s still under 22. I find that an absolutely incredible feat! The creativity & depth of some of the stuff she’s put out like Russian Roulette & Hard a lot of artists don’t get to do till much later in career.

She has come out the other side a stronger person. And that is all I’m saying. Just Me, you can’t really be attacking Rihanna for being a victim. This is why the court has ordered Chris Brown away from Rihanna because these two wanted to get back together. The Judge saw that as well and that is why the order is so restrictive. Time may heal this situation and allow Rihanna to really understand what Chris did to her. It’s a very sad situation and I know it’s hard to understand.
But this is how some people feel when they confuse what TRUE LOVE is.
This is why I have learned so much from this. I mean I would never tolerate any many hitting me. But through this situation I see that this can happen if you think you’re in love. Excuse me, but I have never posted on a blog site in my life despite the fact that most of the comments on them appall me. I am 21 years old and quite frankly these comments make me ashamed to be a female, a black female at that. Me being the same age as Rihanna, can only understand what she has gone through this past year. I’m a normal 21 year old girl in college and it’s hard enough. At this point in life you are in transition barely figuring out who you are and what your purpose in life really is. I know this, because I’ve spent countless nights crying myself to sleep because I’m lost. I come from a very accomplished background and after a while I became susceptible to failure and more vulnerable to pain. It’s a hard thing to go through, but a part of life. I’m sure many of the older people posting negative comments about this young, black female have experienced the same thing. That’s why it’s hard for me to fathom all of the negativity you are typing. I support Rihanna and I have always supported her ever since “Pon de Replay”. You all say she hasn’t been in the spotlight and been speaking out against domestic violence, but I honestly can’t blame her. If I were in her shoes I would do the same, it’s my God given right. You have to heal yourself before you can heal others. I’ve been emotionally abused and so has my mother. My father never hit my mother even though I’ve always feared the day would come. She’s still with him despite the fact that he drinks his life away and makes her feel worthless. She’s in a very bad place because of him, but sometimes I feel she thinks she needs to stay with him because I have a 10 yr old sister. He doesn’t do anything for my mother or the rest of my family, yet she stays with him because he’s the father of her children and probably because she feels like she can’t get out of it because she’s been with him since high school. It’s complicated. I guess my point is, you never know the entire situation unless it’s your situation. You never know every side to every story. I don’t think it’s right for you to criticize this young woman. If anything, embrace her and if you feel like she’s in a bad place, be the mature person you all think you are and pray for her to rise above all she is going through. Imagine if that was your daughter. She’s already dealing with troubles of being a young woman and discovering yourself and your whole world is shook in the matter of seconds. With that being said, I honestly think she deserves this reward not because she supposedly did sidewalk fashion shows but because she was traumatized and obviously left her in a bad place, but she recovered (and she is still recovering, situations like that take a lifetime to recover from) and she’s turning into something positive. She got abused, but was strong enough to come back and release an album in the same year….. sorry this is so long, but I got carried away and I kind of suck at expressing myself (I haven’t taken public speaking yet).

BTW, I don’t think I could be as strong as her if I went through what she went through in the public eye. Then you people ridicule her. I feel that she could have talked about abuse and speak out against domestic violence alont time ago. People saying that her lawyers silenced her and because of the trial..bullshit.. she did not have to speak about specifics of what happened to speak out. She did not have to go into detail of what happened in the car to be a face of domestic abuse, I just find it strange that NOW all of a sudden 2 weeks before your album you NOW want to be an advocate. I think it was in poor taste of her camp to ironically allow her to speak out now. It just seems like it was a capitalistc opportunity instead of ginune

This is one gorgeous girl, on the inside and out. It’s unfortunate she had to learn about domestic violence the hard way, but I am glad she is doing the right thing. I still love Chris Brown, but he needs help and they both need to focus on themselves for awhile.
