He who is without fault (sin) cast the first stone. Chris & Rihanna are young. Domestic violence I agree could never be healthy. So with them being separated we know they are in a healthy place today. We all know show business and with that come publicity and publicists who will coach and guide them along the way. So both interviews were coerced and rehearsed I am sure. I believe as young as they are they both did wrong in that car that night and should both have counseling and therapy to get them through it. Neither of them should suffer for the rest of their lives for this incidence, because how we support them would also help with how we guide our young men and women in abusive relationships, as our efforts should be for them to address it and look for help not feel guilty in showing up the problem if it exists in their relationship. I however wish them both the best; learn from the experience and not let peer pressure with negative blogging and side taking be a negative guide to the rest of their lives.

The thing that irks me about this interview was her attitude, arrogance, and her body language. I know strong women, and I know a strong woman will not try to convince others that she is strong, a woman’s strength is shown just in the way she carries herself, which Rihanna failed at doing. She’s still a child, just as much as she thinks Chris Brown is. I’m a 23 year old female, and I’m still evolving into the woman I want to become but for any woman, a REAL woman, knows that she must take responsibility for her own actions.

Yes, Rihanna was assaulted by Chris Brown, there’s no doubt about it, there was a line and he crossed it just a bit. I also believe that the fact they were inside of a car full of glass and hard plastic her injuries were more severe than what he fist really could do. The bite marks signal there was a struggle, not a one sided beatdown. Rihanna made it seem in the interview like she just sat there and took it, which evidence shows otherwise. Chris used bad judgement and he should have just pulled the car over and walked away. She says she did not hit him or provoke him. But there’s a lot missing from this scenario. I admit, I’m guilty of striking my boyfriend when I was absolute upset about something. He was so scared because he’s never seen me react that way. After I saw how scared he was, I quickly apologized for letting my anger control me and we have moved on from that. I know of his past relationship where he and a former girlfriend were abusive towards each other and I personally witnessed it on several occasions in the beginning of our friendship.

The situations would go like this. He was not paying her any attention or he would forget about something that was important to her or she went through his phone and read his text messages or the night before he came in late and didn’t answer any of her phone calls. She would get so upset and start crying, striking at him, and when he didn’t respond to her or started walk away and say let’s calm down and talk, she would just get in a rage and jump on him punching and kick and everything. I’ve seen him shove her into a wall to get her off of him, I’ve seen him subdue her in a chair when she was getting extremely violent, and one time she punched him so hard in the face he jacked her up in the air. He’s told me there were even times things would pop off in the car and he’s had to pull over and get out of the car because she was grapping at the wheel and he tried pushing her off. I don’t see him as abusive, because he is not, it’s not in his character. It still haunts him to this day some of the things he did, but he’s not a bad person he had to protect himself. I would tell my son that if a women was getting reckless, protect himself. And from Chris’ situation, he’s not an abuser, he committed assault by the law. It’s hard enough on men today because of the double standard that men should not hit a woman because she is weaker. But I’m damn sure he did not hit her for the hell of it which abusers do.

Any woman who believes that is weak themselves. He has every right to protect himself from you. And the dumbest women in the world are the ones who think they are invincible from retaliation and reaction from a man. Why do we need this double standard in this particular situation? These same women are quick to yell foul and play the victim but will not admit their own initial faults that brought up the situation. See right there, is how you be a role model to other girls. Admit what you did and show how you could have done better.

People fail to realize that a lot of these stars in the entertainment industry are very transparent. Take away the money, they are just like us, human. Rihanna is not owning up to her responsibility. She is insecure. She still is and it shows by her anger. They both have a lot of growing to do, but Chris is definitely going in the right direction. Rihanna is still stuck in the same place as she was that night of the incident. If anyone needs to take courses, she needs to do so voluntarily. And where are her parents? I was so happy to see Chris’s mom step up and help guide him through this situation. If Rihanna wants to be a role model so bad by publicly telling her story, she also needs to get her parents involved publicly.

ok so i know some think this is a little silly (im winking at my collegue, whos sitting next to me shakin her head) but i’m grateful for the opportunity to say thanks to rihanna for her story.

We just want to share a little story with the RD community just to prove her words has helped others.

The residents here at the hospital where i practice have seen a 20% increase since Friday night in DV cases, thats not a huge deal but the great thing is of the 13 cases we’ve treated since FRIDAY 8 have actually gone through and reported it and accepted the help from us, law enforcement and social services. We dont see that often at all thats over a 50% increase of reported abuse for our hospital usually we patch them up and they go on about their business never reporting it.

We have talked with residents at 2 other local hospitals and they’ve all seen a similar spike in reported cases since friday rightly or coincidentally we all have attributed this to Rihanna.

So for ya’ll that thought she shouldnt have talked about, i think this is just proof of how her words have affected others.

On behalf of the staff here hell yeah we’re thanking her, even though its kept us kinda busyand i havent had as much time as i’d like to be on RD …lol

She did not tell the whole truth and if you are going to do something like this, speak it all.. It’s this type of thought process that keeps women who are in domestic violence situations from coming forward. Feeling ashamed, embarrassed or the simple fact that no one will believe them. NOONE will ever really know what happened in that car that night, and stories can be speculated and drummed up. But the fact remains that pictures don’t lie. I don’t care what Rihanna may have done or said, there is no excuse for a man to put his hands on a woman like that. Defending himself is one thing, but continuously beating her takes it to a whole different level.

As a woman coming from a domestic violence situation, I listened to Rihanna’s interview and understood everything she was saying. CB may have the type of personality in public that attracts everyone to him but behind closed doors he may have been a different person. And trust me, some men don’t need any reason to hit a woman. A look, the wrong word, even a smile can set someone off.

It amazes me that our young brothers and sisters have looked at this whole situation and still choose to criticize this young woman. And for the record, I am not even a Rihanna fan. I am a fan of victims of domestic violence. We are a society that has become so engrossed and glamorized with fame and money that we forget what it is for these celebrities to be normal human beings. We have become a demoralized, desensitized, nation that feeds off of fame and fortune.

@bored, so she should not tell her side even when Chris told his. SHe never said she wanted it behind her. At the time of the incident, she wanted it all to go away. Now because Chris brought the incident to the national media, by going on Larry King, she has a right to give her side of things. She’s the one who got the beating, so she should just shut up and be quite, while Chris gives interview after interview.

@redmamma, you’re on point, what you are saying is soo true. Its strange that young women are saying its okay for a man to beat a woman down to the point of a felony, as long as its provoked. I like Chris Brown too, but when a person is wrong, whether your a fan or not, you have to let them know that. Chris needs help, and his fans would help him more by supporting him getting help, instead of supporting and justifying him beating down a woman.

@bored you said abused women act differently? so how exactly do they act? This is rihanna’s first time getting abused, so how would she know how to act? Plus she’s only 21 with not much life experience to go by. I doubt most abuse victims follow the same pattern and act exactly alike.

Some of you women are ignorant and stupid and the number one reason why so many women are killed each day by the hands of a man…I don’t care what Rihanna did she could’ve slapped the dog shit out of him (women are not supposed to put their hands on men either) but the point is this…most men walk away because they know their capability…they know their strength. So they either walk away or punch a wall….their is NO justification for Chris Brown beating her ass like that!!! Did you guys see the picture????? For all that he did, the biting, choking, kicking, he could’ve easily just pulled her out of the car and drove off….pushed her…got out the car and called him a cab. Called one of his boys to come get him while he walked down the street. So many options besides whooping her ass like he was in a boxing ring. He could’ve even hit her once, cause I know that first hit not only shocked her but woke her ass up….I don’t if any of you have been hit by a man, but that is definitely a scary moment that will shut you up quickly. But he kept going and that’s where I have a problem. Something inside of him SNAPPED, could be child memories, could be some other issues he was dealing with.

As for Rhianna’s interview, I commend her for telling the truth. HE was the one who recieved the cheating text, so why was he so mad…because he was guilty. And like most women, Rhianna wouldn’t let it go until she got the truth. Makes perfect sense. I think it was sincere and real…it seemed more real than Chris interview. I would be disgusted by him right now too….not saying that she would never go back to him if he really changed. But I feel what she is saying…as of the CHRIS RIGHT NOW she is disgusted by him. I feel that.

OMG…. this gal is an actress… not a very good one tho… it’s interesting how she has something 2 say now that she’s about 2 drop her album… i don’t know if he hit her with good reason or not but @ the end of the day there r woman out there who r being abused every single day of their lives n they dunno how 2 get out of the situ… but here’s rihanna using whatever happened that night 2 up her album sales…. str8 up i have no respect 4 her…. she’s always walking around half naked all punked up then now she has an interview about the nyt n she’s looking like a sheep… whatever!!!!

I feel like it was more that happened that nite, I feel that if she was upset like she said she was than she hit him first and then the fight got started.

I don’t know this woman and she certainly don’t know me. But Rihanna was telling my story. You do lie to yourself you want to believe that he is sorrry and it will never happen again. You do blame yourself and rehash the events to see if you did something to provke it.

But how? Many times he (speaking for myself) made me angry and it NEVER occured to me to hit this man let alone to the degree and viciousness that this person who told me he loved me has. I totally understand and am glad she put into words how she was ashamed to be in love with a person who can do this.

I felt stupid and began to question if I LIKEd this on some level. Hell no!!!
But why can’t I break free??I have prayed to GOD to hurry and harden my heart so I can function. I love the idea of being in love and have so much to give but know I am afraid because I am a lousy judge of character and afraid I will never find a person who will love and protect me.

I know people will think I am stupid and many days I do too. But if there is one person who after reading this feels they are not alone and someone feels like them then it is worth. it…..this is what Rihanna’s interview did for me.

Okay, I am feeling that Rhianna has an ear piece in her right ear. The camera shows only one side of her face when we can see Diane’s entire face. Me being a radio personality and interview several celebrities and person’s, I can tell when someone is thinking for themselves and she clearly isnt. I can tell this from her long pauses as if she is waiting on her next sentence to be sent to her. She just doesnt see natural, sometimes is clearly off. Her head is always leaned off to the side but you never see the other side of her head and she doesnt change positions for the entire interview.

For everyone saying that Rihanna isn’t helping any “REAL” victims of DV. You need to get out more often. I have seen at least 4 different shows where they were having a discussion about DV and DATING VIOLENCE and so many girls came forward or wrote letters telling their stories and THEY ALL SAID HEARING RIHANNA’S STORY GAVE THEM THE COURAGE TO COME FORWARD. So YES she is helping other’s just by putting a familiar face to a serious issue. WHETHER YOU LIKE HER OR NOT. SHE HAS NOW BECOME THE FACE PEOPLE ASSOCIATE WITH DOMESTIC AND DATING VIOLENCE. She is saving lives by being strong enough and brave enough to put her business out there EVEN AT THE RISK OF BEING JUDGED AND FACING BACKLASH. She should be applauded. Kudos to Rihanna.
