Some of y’all forget about a very very important thing when it comes to domestic violence. When a case is ONGOING, the victim and the accused ARE NOT ALLOWED to talk about it in public. Rihanna didn’t know until August whether the case was going to go to court or if a deal was going to be make.

So if you think about it, it has NOT been a whole year. She could only comment on this since August. It’s now November.

It’s been two months.

And uhm, believe me if she LIED about any of the derails, I’m sure Chris Brown’s expensive Michael Jackson lawyer would sue her for deflamation of character, don’t you think?

Conclusion; she might have not went into detail but it seems to me like she spoke the truth. AND remember Chris statement after her interview; he didn’t say SHIT to defend himself.

I hope that all the women that are defending Chris Brown’s actions ‘that night’… get their asses beat from their lover! Since it happens to 1 out 4 women in their lifetime…it’ll probably happen! As a woman who is pursuing my PhD in psychology, I must say that more awareness and education is needed on this subject (and other mental health issues for that matter). It is quite apparent from the responses of some of the females in this post that many are painfully unaware of the realities of Domestic Violence. What many people do not understand is that Domestic Violence is a mental health issue, not just a legal issue. Domestic Violence represents a vicious cycle that people often learn in their childhood. Chris Brown and Rihanna both have childhood experiences dealing with this issue. In most cases (not ALL) boys grow up to become abusers and women grow up and enter abusive relationships; though there are exceptions to the rule. This may NOT be the case if there is early intervention for children. Many people on this post are trying to make logical sense of an issue that, often times, is illogical. Chris Brown has a problem with anger management. When people have a problem with this, they often react violently and in a physical manner. This is because they have difficulty MANAGING their anger and appropriately responding to a situation. This behavior is maladaptive and should not be excused, minimized, or trivialized. Is Chris Brown talented? Yes. But he is also struggling with aggression, control, and an inability to control his emotions. Instead of finding justifications for his behavior or minimizing this incident, we should be praying for him and hoping that he is able to seek the help that he needs. Rihanna’s childhood experiences put her at risk for being in an abusive relationship. Despite what you may think of her public persona, she is still a human who needs prayer as well.

Domestic violence is about power and control. The abuser wants to dominate the victim/survivor and wants all the power in the relationship-and uses violence in order to establish and maintain authority and power. Perpetrators of domestic violence are usually NOT sick or deranged, but have learned abusive, manipulative techniques and behaviors that allow them to dominate and control others and obtain the responses they desire.

Just to clarify, here is a definition of Domestic Violence: “Domestic violence constitutes the willful intimidation, assault, battery, sexual assault or other abusive behavior perpetrated by one family member, household member, or intimate partner against another” — National Center For Victims of Crime

Historically, most states required that you had to be a spouse or lived with an intimate partner for it to be considered Domestic Violence. However, due to the rise of dating violence, majority of states provide some level of statutory protection for victims of dating violence. This may be why some have not considered this situation to be an example of “real” Domestic Violence. Fine. We can call this situation Dating Violence, to be technical.

One thing I must clarify: Victim is not synonymous with “angelic”. In other words, calling an individual a victim does not mean we are implying that one is “perfect” or “angelic”. Therefore, there is really no need to discuss how “innocent” Rihanna may or may not be. Victim refers to the recipient of the “willful intimidation, assault, battery, sexual assault or other abusive behavior perpetrated by one family member, household member, or intimate partner”. In this case, the victim was Rihanna.

TO THE WOMEN: I must say, I am disappointed by some of the comments I have read. I understand you are a fan of Chris Brown and his music, but please do not confuse his public image with “knowing” him. I understand you may not be a fan of Rihanna or her music, but please do not use this as an excuse to attribute ALL of the blame on her. This behavior says more about you than it does about her. It is NEVER okay to be BEATEN this way. Nothing justifies this.

I like what she says as the very end. He need to stop feeling sorry for himself. Up until February, I preferred Chris over Rhi any day - he’s more talented, writes his songs, and sells out entire tours.

Up until recently, I couldn’t even listen to a song of his, or watch one of his vids because of what he did.

I feel sorry for Chris do to the simple fact that he has become something he himself hates an abuser. His interview had me feeling bad for him in the simple that he said he grew up around in a abusive relationship as a young child. Statistic tells us that more than likely you’ll become one yourself. No way condoning what he did but it shows that he himself is a victim of a vicious cycle. Somethings affect us more than we think. I don’t feel Chris is bad person and I think he will come out of this better but I don’t think he gets the full gravity of the situation. They both need to sit down somewhere and get the needed they both equally need.

This is an unfortunate situation and both are victems. Chris Brown and Rhianna are products of witnessing domestic violence as children and I am sure both have not had counseling prior to this incident to even deal with the impact that it can have. It appears as if it was an isolated incident in which he assaulted her, not a repeated pattern which is what usually defines domestic violence. We often forget that domestic violence is not just about women being abused; it can go both ways, men can also be victems of domestic violence and it does not always have to be physical assault, it can also be emotional and verbal abuse. His actions were not right, however; the whole story has not been told and we as onlookers will never know. He has admitted that his actions were wrong and he is getting counseling which is the first step and I commend him for that. She should also get some counseling, I did not hear her mention that in this interview. I will still continue to support him as an artist because he has a gift and is very talented. In life, God gives us trials and lessons and it is up to us to learn and keep growing.

I am one of Rihanna biggest haters but for the most part I think she was telling the truth. Not to sure on weather she has ever hit Chris or not. My thoughts on the interview was that it was a little rehearsed and staged BUT with that said I do feel it was important for Rihanna to speak on the situation. Domestic violence is no joke and whether Chris beat her or not some light needs to be shed on the situation. It’s obvious this was used as a publicity for her album but I’m glad she spoke out. Be honest, we all wanted to know what went on.

Okay, this is my take on this whole situation:

I think Chris is truly sorry. But because he is so young, he don’t know how to outwardly express it. Also given his family history, and he got a little bit of a bad boy swagger, they don’t go around looking sad on the outside. Chris is very immature, and very naive. He’s also not the most articulate person, so it’s hard to get his points and feelings across. I truly think he was sorry because of what he said to Rhianna, days after the incident. Because he was so obstracized in that backlash, i think he started to have the attitude like, okay i said i was sorry, man, bump this…and started wearing stuff that expressed how he felt. He felt dejected and rejected even in the wake of his apology. He truly only owed apologies to a few people in his life including Rhianna….And when he was on the motorboat laughing, that was because he thought he and rhianna was going to still make it, and kindda giving the public the “f” you finger….Like hah, yall told her not to come back, but she’s back….remember yall he’s a child… He’s one year younger than her.

Then she publicly claimed to have never seen the chris brown apology on youtube, and we straight know she lying about that, but even then, why did she have to say it looks like he was reading from a teleprompter, even if it was true (giving people the impression he’s insincere in his apology) He might have used it because he didn’t want to forget the words, or he knows he’s limited verbally…i think she said that on purpose because for some reason right now she is mad at him….When Diane asked her what she thought of the tape, she could have focused on what he was saying in the tape, and not on how he was saying it. She claims to not be angry at him, but you could tell she is. She was sitting there trying to pretend to be all grown and cool, and came off differently. She came off as someone “acting” grown and cool. I don’t know i didn’t buy it.

All in all, i think both of them enjoyed good times and bad times. I think Chris is struggling to regain his life….one thing he knows for sure, even if he thought it was okay to hit a woman, the world showed him how fast they would send him packing back to the ghetto; he knows he can’t do that again. And even if he’s being forced into domestic violence classes, either way it seems to be getting through to him.

I think all young men who witness their fathers beat their mothers, and young girls who witness the same likeness she receive counseling as children, because to be a front seat theater ticketholder to that type of event is very traumatizing to a child, and whether they know it or not has already started to shape their future relationships before they could even start them.

There are a couple of things that need to be reiterated:

1. Domestic Violence represents a vicious cycle that people often learn in their childhood. Even if you don’t think someone would be abusive or “hit a woman for no reason’, a person often learns how to behavior in this manner from what they witness in their childhood.

2. Many people on this post are trying to make logical sense of an issue that, often times, is illogical. Abuse can seem like it “doesn’t make sense” to some, but it is how a person LEARNED to behave.

3. Domestic violence is about power and control. The abuser wants to dominate the victim and wants all the power in the relationship — often using violence in order to establish and maintain authority and power. So it makes sense that Chris Brown would react in violence if he felt someone was challenging his authority (i.e., questioning him about a text message).

4. This behavior is maladaptive and should not be excused, minimized, or trivialized. Period.

5. Victim is not synonymous with “angelic”. In other words, calling an individual a victim does not mean we are implying that one is “perfect” or “angelic”. Rihanna was the recipient of the assault. Therefore, she is the victim.

Some of you people slay me. Talking about, “I’m not justifying what Chris did, BUT…”, then the next words coming out of your mouths are excuses for his actions. So with them being separated we know they are in a healthy place today. We all know show business and with that come publicity and publicists who will coach and guide them along the way. So both interviews were coerced and rehearsed I am sure. I believe as young as they are they both did wrong in that car that night and should both have counseling and therapy to get them through it. Neither of them should suffer for the rest of their lives for this incidence, because how we support them would also help with how we guide our young men and women in abusive relationships, as our efforts should be for them to address it and look for help not feel guilty in showing up the problem if it exists in their relationship. I however wish them both the best; learn from the experience and not let peer pressure with negative blogging and side taking be a negative guide to the rest of their lives.

The thing that irks me about this interview was her attitude, arrogance, and her body language. I know strong women, and I know a strong woman will not try to convince others that she is strong, a woman’s strength is shown just in the way she carries herself, which Rihanna failed at doing. I’m a 23 year old female, and I’m still evolving into the woman I want to become but for any woman, a REAL woman, knows that she must take responsibility for her own actions.

Yes, Rihanna was assaulted by Chris Brown, there’s no doubt about it, there was a line and he crossed it just a bit. I also believe that the fact they were inside of a car full of glass and hard plastic her injuries were more severe than what he fist really could do. The bite marks signal there was a struggle, not a one sided beatdown. Rihanna made it seem in the interview like she just sat there and took it, which evidence shows otherwise. Chris used bad judgement and he should have just pulled the car over and walked away. She says she did not hit him or provoke him. But there’s a lot missing from this scenario. I admit, I’m guilty of striking my boyfriend when I was absolute upset about something. He was so scared because he’s never seen me react that way. After I saw how scared he was, I quickly apologized for letting my anger control me and we have moved on from that. I know of his past relationship where he and a former girlfriend were abusive towards each other and I personally witnessed it on several occasions in the beginning of our friendship.

The situations would go like this. He was not paying her any attention or he would forget about something that was important to her or she went through his phone and read his text messages or the night before he came in late and didn’t answer any of her phone calls. She would get so upset and start crying, striking at him, and when he didn’t respond to her or started walk away and say let’s calm down and talk, she would just get in a rage and jump on him punching and kick and everything. I’ve seen him shove her into a wall to get her off of him, I’ve seen him subdue her in a chair when she was getting extremely violent, and one time she punched him so hard in the face he jacked her up in the air. He’s told me there were even times things would pop off in the car and he’s had to pull over and get out of the car because she was grapping at the wheel and he tried pushing her off. I don’t see him as abusive, because he is not, it’s not in his character. It still haunts him to this day some of the things he did, but he’s not a bad person he had to protect himself. I would tell my son that if a women was getting reckless, protect himself. And from Chris’ situation, he’s not an abuser, he committed assault by the law. It’s hard enough on men today because of the double standard that men should not hit a woman because she is weaker. But I’m damn sure he did not hit her for the hell of it which abusers do.

Any woman who believes that is weak themselves. He has every right to protect himself from you. And the dumbest women in the world are the ones who think they are invincible from retaliation and reaction from a man. Why do we need this double standard in this particular situation? These same women are quick to yell foul and play the victim but will not admit their own initial faults that brought up the situation. See right there, is how you be a role model to other girls. Admit what you did and show how you could have done better.

People fail to realize that a lot of these stars in the entertainment industry are very transparent. Take away the money, they are just like us, human. Rihanna is not owning up to her responsibility. She is insecure. She still is and it shows by her anger. They both have a lot of growing to do, but Chris is definitely going in the right direction. ok so i know some think this is a little silly (im winking at my collegue, whos sitting next to me shakin her head) but i’m grateful for the opportunity to say thanks to rihanna for her story.

We just want to share a little story with the RD community just to prove her words has helped others.

The residents here at the hospital where i practice have seen a 20% increase since Friday night in DV cases, thats not a huge deal but the great thing is of the 13 cases we’ve treated since FRIDAY 8 have actually gone through and reported it and accepted the help from us, law enforcement and social services. We dont see that often at all thats over a 50% increase of reported abuse for our hospital usually we patch them up and they go on about their business never reporting it.

We have talked with residents at 2 other local hospitals and they’ve all seen a similar spike in reported cases since friday rightly or coincidentally we all have attributed this to Rihanna.

So for ya’ll that thought she shouldnt have talked about, i think this is just proof of how her words have affected others.

On behalf of the staff here hell yeah we’re thanking her, even though its kept us kinda busyand i havent had as much time as i’d like to be on RD …lol

I am completely disgusted by the comments that are downing Rihanna for doing this interview. It’s this type of thought process that keeps women who are in domestic violence situations from coming forward. Feeling ashamed, embarrassed or the simple fact that no one will believe them. NOONE will ever really know what happened in that car that night, and stories can be speculated and drummed up. But the fact remains that pictures don’t lie. I don’t care what Rihanna may have done or said, there is no excuse for a man to put his hands on a woman like that. Defending himself is one thing, but continuously beating her takes it to a whole different level.

As a woman coming from a domestic violence situation, I listened to Rihanna’s interview and understood everything she was saying. CB may have the type of personality in public that attracts everyone to him but behind closed doors he may have been a different person. And trust me, some men don’t need any reason to hit a woman. A look, the wrong word, even a smile can set someone off.

It amazes me that our young brothers and sisters have looked at this whole situation and still choose to criticize this young woman. And for the record, I am not even a Rihanna fan. I am a fan of victims of domestic violence. We are a society that has become so engrossed and glamorized with fame and money that we forget what it is for these celebrities to be normal human beings. We have become a demoralized, desensitized, nation that feeds off of fame and fortune.

Okay, I am feeling that Rhianna has an ear piece in her right ear. The camera shows only one side of her face when we can see Diane’s entire face. Me being a radio personality and interview several celebrities and person’s, I can tell when someone is thinking for themselves and she clearly isnt. I can tell this from her long pauses as if she is waiting on her next sentence to be sent to her. She just doesnt see natural, sometimes is clearly off. My mother used to tell me to live a life that God can be proud of, and to be kind to each and everyone no matter their faults, but its things like this that makes it hard for me to like Rihanna. I mean this interview didn’t seem genuine at all. After it was over, I felt like I just got finish watching a soap opera of some sort. I going to pray for her, because my instincts tell me that this was done for all the wrong reasons. I think if Rhianna was really trying to speak out against domestic violence, she would have done exactly what #8 said, Have you attend any domestic abuse centers, rallies, schools to speak to little girls to prevent this. Personally I think Rihanna really and truthfully spoke out and she had no reason to lie because although she is a celebrity, reality still exist and both she and Chris are human like everyone else. However, some of the comments that were left were extremely rude and ignorant because no one really knows the truth except the two of them. So how the hell can you judge either of them rather your a fan or not. I enjoy Chris’s music as well as Rihanna’s, but what happend was not a game or just for publicity. In the real world intervention is a mutha because a lot of domestic violence situations extend from childhood. We don’t need to make excuses but break these generational curses off of our sons and daughters. Furthermore, Rihanna seems to be a very positve young lady and I don’t think that she would try to discredit Chris by any means, but the truth remains between the two. Things happen and we live and we learn and its on them to take this issue and use it as a steppin stone and not a downfall. In conclusion, I believe in helping young girls as well going through domestic violence situations because if I were not as strong minded and strong willed as I am, I to would hve let my situation with my daughter’s father totally take control of me to the capacity that it would have destroyed him or I.

I have to say being a domestic violence victim that I am happy that Rihanna came out to speak about this situation. I see that everyone is complaining about how long it took for her to speak about it. You must understand that this young lady is at the pinnacle of her career and something as traumatic as being physically abused should be taken into consideration. She needed time to collect her thoughts. Being in love at that age is confusing enough. Imagine having 20000 paparazzis outside your door taking pictures and asking you millions of questions that you just cant seem to find the answer to in a limited amount of time because you still have those feelings of confusion and love in your heart. Love does not have an on and off switch. They went from being happy to domestic violence in 1 night. It is hard for the regular Joe schmo imagine being as famous as her. Many things must have ran through both their minds. It is sad that most people these days are or were victims of domestic violence at some point in their lives.
