this looks like another training day but with different actors….i will probably go check it out because of don cheadle.
Is nobody else upset that all black dramas depict black people as cops/criminals, or it’s about struggles of stereotypical black people? There’s no diversity in the film roles for black people
@2 Circa-1984:
We could see more diversity in roles if ‘we’ started creating our own plays and movies and distributing them ourselves.
There are enough rich/smart Black people in this country to bankroll different stories-yet we still wait around for the current industry to throw us a bone.
@2
its what sells. Either were the bad guy/woman or the “good guy” with a hidden agenda…or the neck rolling sistah..or the playa playa Negro whovWANTS to be a good man but can stop chasing butt crack..
I could go on for another 2 minutes…lol
Wesley Snipes cornrows have ruined this entire film for me. Almost as bad as Shamar Moore in that Tyler Perry movie.
This looks like a straight to DVD flick to me. I feel like I have seen this movie so many times.
#5 LMAO!!!! I was thinking the same thing! funny….
Speaking on black films out of Hollywood, can you all name one black female director that’s on the level of some of our male black film directors like Spike Lee? Can you name one? Hollywood has always been suspect to me as far as providing good films on black subjects.
Im gonna see it.
LMAO @ 5
& whats up with Don Cheadle’s earrings & bling LOL
@ 5 thats how i felt about Samuel L Jackson in the movie SoulMen lol
GLAD 2 SEE PEOPLE Awake…
@3 – I agree
@5 – LMAO – I hated Shamar Moore with cornrows and I really hate Wesley Snipes with them.
I dont have much time anymore to go to the movies so I will probably wait until this comes on cable. Looks like a good movie.
No matter how many times I watch Diary of a Mad Black Woman…I can never stop laughing when I see Shemar’s cornrows. Same goes for Uncle Sam’s braids in Soul Men. lololol thinking about it now.
Good actors in this film, I wanna check it out.. And my boy Omar from The Wire is in it too.
im not lettin a stupid thing like “cornrolls” ruin this for me? its a movie. hes an actor. hes playing a roll? lol. anyway.
cant even put into words how HYPE i am to see da homey Wesley Snipes acting again. ALWAYS been a huge fan. “White Men Can’t Jump” pretty much solidified him in my top 5 dead or alive. not to mention don cheadle and the white boi. lol.
oh, and ive liked richard gere since he SNAPPED and killed the punk ass dude smashin his wife in “Unfaithful.”
I knew right off this was a movie directed by the director of Training Day, especially when I seen two of the actors from that movie. That being said, it seems interesting I might go see it. Maybe on Monday though for the $5 matinee, lol.
def looks like a quality film with these top notch actors. glad to see Wesley doing his thing again.
Wasn’t Ethan Hawke in Training Day?
I’m noticing that J. Dakar is doing a lot of the updates this week. Angel must be on vacation
I’ve always said Hollywood wasn’t for black people. When there are black movies there always the same Tyler Perry movies, which have a great point but where’s the suspense, drama etc. That’s just the way it is I guess, but I def wanna see this. I like drama movies
I’ll go see it! Im just glad to see that a black film is out! Im going to support it because if we dont we probably wont see many more in the near future, besides Tyler Perry Films! because people support his films! I like Tyler Perry movies but I’m ready to start seeing black films deplicting love again, like Love Jones, Love and Basketball, Brown sugar, The Best Man. Black people have a senstive side too! We do want to see more then just hardcore films! Just saying…
I’m not sold on this..lol…its better than another Tyler Perry film talking about the struggles of black life. I mean sometimes it really isn’t that serious….
I’m glad to see Westley Snipes is working. Hopefully he doesn’t have to go to jail over that tax thing. He seems like a decent guy…well minus that incident when he busted Halle berry in the side of the face.
Why has the movie Precious Golden Globe nominations has not been announced on this Blog? It has been 2 days and still no mention. Is there a problem with posting this or just not worth mentioning?
@ #8….
The chick who directed Secret Life of the Bees.. lol female director I just can’t remember her name but she has also directed highly acclaimed independent movies as well.
@ ConcreteloopAddict
You are right — it is what sells and what is targeted to the black demographic. To me, that says something about us as well: This is what we like to see. Black men harrowing guns and running from the cops and then some. Don Cheadle was also in a film called Traitor — the main star — and he was also in that movie with Adam Sandler that was more universal. But I wonder how many black people actually went to show support for him in either of those two movies as well.
I agree with whoever said that we need to start creating more movies. And I don’t mean we need another Tyler Perry. While I don’t like his movies, they do reach a particular demographic and I can’t throw any shade on him for finding a niche. There just needs to be more diversity.
wow.. i kno exactly where this movie is… iin the browsville part of brooklyn. I always i live around dere but not in dha pj’s. but the movie seems like its gonna be good, might check it out
Wow! I MUST see this!
Why make our own films if our own ppl are just going to steal from us? I hate to admit but my Mom love Tyler Perry films and she even went to see a couple of em but she has everyone of his movies on bootleg. So because our own people the vast majority of it atleast; seems to continue to pirate and plunder black entertainment why make it for them. It just like what Timbaland said “my target demographic are middle aged white women with kids that watch Desperate House wives” Because they ACTUALLY PURCHASE the product. We’ve got to do better for real. I know its a tough economy but I dont buy every cd or movie that comes out just the ones that mean something to me because I’d like those people to continue to put out top quality work.
Which raises my next question I kind of just want other people’s opinions…Would the movie Twilight be successful if it was a black film with black actors?
@ Tiffany J
I ask the SAME question all the time! I miss those type of movies.
Good to see Wesley Snipes making a movie released to a theater instead of straight to DVD.
WHAT – Is Nino Brown back??????

I’ll pass on this movie. I’ll just read the spoilers on IMDB instead.
