Rihanna and Jay-Z perform during a taping for NBC’s New Year’s Eve With Carson Daly in New York City on Saturday (December 19), in the middle of an East Coast snowstorm.
The singer (who Entertainment Weekly recently announced has the Best Pop Album of 2009 with Rated R) will headline a New Year’s Eve concert in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

@ # 46 TYRA IS A LIAR!!, I’m a little confused by your statement about Lady Gaga being fugly and Rihanna being beautiful in comparing their music. What does their looks have to do with their talent? When you buy a CD are you listening to the music or listening to the person’s looks? No one can deny Rihanns’s beauty. But buying CD’s and supporting artists based on their looks is childish and unintelligent.
Russian Roulette, Fire Bomb, Photographs, and Last song to me are the better songs on the album, with Russian Roulette being the best song on the album. That’s four out of what 13 tracks? And these are not GREAT songs. But I guess it’s possible that in the POP genre it could be considered the best album of the year? I think Rihanna is gorgeous and her songs sound good on CD or MP3, but her live performances suck. And I think live performance is the essence of an artiist. I’ve seen many artist live, and that’s what makes you a true artist or not. John Legend, Maxwell, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Erykah Badu–these are people I’ve seen in concert and would see again and again. You cant compare Rihanna, someone with a poor to mediocre voice and stage presence to artists like Beyonce and Lady Gaga who can actually sing and rip a stage. It’s okay to be a Rihanna fan, but to say she’s a better artist than these people, is pure delusion. Now if you wanna talk about an epic album that’s great from start to finish, you gotta talk about The Element of Freedom. I better appreciate artist like Akeys who (to me) display such amazing musical talent. I like Rihanna and and I support her trying to make it in the music business. But she’s just not someone whose album I’d buy or someone I’d go see in concert. Saw her at the Akeys concert last year btw, she sang that song with Neyo ‘hate that I love you’, and she was singing over pre-recorded vocals and lacked stage presence.
