AWARENESS: DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. REMEMBERED

January 18th, 2010

Each third Monday of January, schools, federal offices and such in America remain closed celebrating the birth, the life and the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

It is a time for the nation to remember the injustices that Dr. King fought; a time to remember his fight for the freedom, equality and dignity of all races and peoples; a time to remember the message of change through nonviolence. Although many people see this as “a day without homework” or “a day to hang out with friends,” it is so much more than that; it is the celebration of equality, the celebration of freedom, and the celebration of a truly inspiring individual.

Below is the full version of King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech, which he delivered at the Lincoln Memorial (Washington, D.C.) on Aug. 28, 1963.

What an ‘inspiration’! This man has opened to many doors for us blacks, yet we DON’T appreciate it! Let’s keep ‘hope’ alive…btw, I’m expecting this post to have less ‘comments’ because our ‘ppl’ don’t find this interesting, but rather go ahead to another post and ‘comment’ about celebrities whom this MAN has opened doors for! Boy, aren’t our ‘ppl’ ignorant…. :)

    From A Black Man

…I too get chills watching this again, but now as an adult it always takes on a fresher, more nuanced meaning than the last.

I do not equate myself or my contemporaries as mastering the profundity, to say nothing of being the personified zeitgeist, of Dr King’s message. But those of us who are visionaries for a better future, we’re still here.

It’s just that we lost our way. Too many programmed and unintended distractions. It’s difficult to study the vastness of the ocean when buildings are in the way. The writings, lectures, speeches and books of Dr King, African History and Black American History should be ubiquitous in classrooms not only at home in the USA, but worldwide. Same as Gandhi’s. The road maps- the compass if you will- is there. They left them there for us to pour over and digest.

I travel and live abroad and it is rare that I meet a foreign colleague that understands, or deeply comprehends, the reality of what life was like before, during and after this period. During the civil rights era in America. It’s astonishing what I’ve found to be in abundance: blind ignorance.

And I’ll add that our number 1 US export being pop culture and music, specifically our globally successful rap and hip-hop, has the masses certainly comfortable with the most primal understanding of who we are as a people. Which results in the use of “nigger” without too much reservation in certain settings.

They’ve some difficulty grasping just why I or any of us would be upset at words found so commonly in the music they love, coincidentally produced by those who look like me. Oh man, the uncomfortable moment stories I could tell… LOL.

    But that’s another day…

…We’re still here. Men of the future with sensibilities of the past. We’re just finding our way to you. Come closer to see our reflection in the water :-)

    Peace and blessings…

We must never forget him. Because he unselfishly gave his life for the civil rights movement ,positive progress for African-Americans was made easier and he truly paved the way for Obama to eventually become America`s first Black President. Dr. King was one of the greatest and most remarkable human beings to ever walk the earth.

It is kind of a shame. I figure that’s why CL stopped doing the black history posts. I really used to enjoy those as it was a way to expose readers to great African Americans who are not as well known as Dr. King.

Angel/J. Dakar — any way to get those going again or is it a financial thing?

    makes me wanna holler

if you will allow me to . i would like to holler at valerie ……. valerie … or ms. jarrett if your nasty… i had to put that in cause i got a crush on this woman. but enough w/ that. my concern is that “this” president hasn’t been in office a year, and everybody and his mama are trying to kick the white door down.. you got unease in the blk community, latino’s, gays and etc……. you got the right going in —— hard… and have effectively used reverse psychology to turn 8yrs of balant in your face theivery to put this country in the condition thats its in now. lead by an evil person behind a microphone….. anyway if you could send an liaison….. and or get together like these republicans and dems ……. w/ an retreat to get the fore mentioned above a platform to come to the table w/ ideas and solutions for as they say it obama’s world 2010 and beyond……. bwt now and oct….. you need to extend invitations to seperate retreats for the people who think that this admin is not caring or hearing them.. your mission [valerie] if you decide to accept… is to gather indvidually the separate groups and break down just what the process of coming to the solutions are all about. and its not about venting frustrations at an overwhelmed president…. you will have to explain that …….. [in my words] the president HAS to deal w/ the beast FIRST. on top of everything else…… so they must group ,come up w/ power solutions and not stand on the sidelines whinning and gripping about feeling left out… its somewhat like the think-tanks and social centers the right wing and fox news have implemented that has had an effect on this admin….. this president shall not and should not jump through hoops for any group…. the republicans and wall street crippled this nation and did it w/ an in your face attitude…get these retreats as far away from “washington d.c.” as you can….. and get together w/ the leaders of these groups the cornel west’s and all of the educated and not so ed. and have them come up w/ real solutions and plans intead of sitting on the sidelines thinking that the door has shut in their face again…… to all these folks i what you to understand while you go in hard on this admin ——- WHATS YOUR ALTERNATIVE. the republicans who won’t even give these groups the time of day….. i am damn sure that obama 2010 and beyond, includes all of the groups mentioned above…. its just that prez has to shore up this nation that the republicans gleefully and w/ intend brought to its knees for their own selfish gain. this election in MASS is going to speak volumes and the dye will be cast….. do you folks want to give the wheel back to the same folks who wrecked it and won’t give any of these groups above the time of day . or shall we press on as C. L. FRANKLIN PREACHED…… i know its ruff but don’t abandond the ship now… hold on change is coming,, but taking care of the beast comes first. and as always sorry for being long winded…..

How can there be men willing to give their life off of the inspiration of MLK, when MLK taught black men to lay down and get bitten by dogs to get white people to love them lol? You black people are very confused, and I notice that it is usually black women and effeminate black men that are the biggest supporters of MLK’s message of confusion and house ni**erism. He was a pawn who did nothing but figure-head a movement that has lead to the dissolution of the black community. By the time he figured out what his dumb a$$ was being used for, they put a bullet through that melon head of his. Beyond that, a white man (and Communist) named Stanley Levinsohn wrote that “I Have A Dream” speech for Martin Luther Coon.

    Thanks, Judah! Amazing…

    Jeremiah 23:25-32 (New International Version)

25 “I have heard what the prophets say who prophesy lies in my name. They say, ‘I had a dream! I had a dream!’ 26 How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions of their own minds? 27 They think the dreams they tell one another will make my people forget my name, just as their fathers forgot my name through Baal worship. 28 Let the prophet who has a dream tell his dream, but let the one who has my word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?” declares the LORD. 29 “Is not my word like fire,” declares the LORD, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?

30 “Therefore,” declares the LORD, “I am against the prophets who steal from one another words supposedly from me. 31 Yes,” declares the LORD, “I am against the prophets who wag their own tongues and yet declare, ‘The LORD declares.’ 32 Indeed, I am against those who prophesy false dreams,” declares the LORD. “They tell them and lead my people astray with their reckless lies, yet I did not send or appoint them. They do not benefit these people in the least,” declares the LORD.

Did YOU march with him, lol? You’re a damn slave. Save that nonsense for your son. To show how stupid and coonish you are, you attribute where you are today to a man, instead of to the Most High and Christ. This is why black people are in the worst state that they’ve ever been in, because of the delusional mentality that you have, which is charactersitic of our people. Black people had their own businesses and tight communities before the white man used this pawn to deceive our people. Now the other races control all the businesses in the black community but a slave ni**er like you thinks that MLK’s “marches” improved the condition of our people. No race with a ruling classs mentality “marches” for respect. This is why the East Indians killed Gandhi, who was also a pawn (and MLK’s idol). Who do you think pushes this clown down black people’s throats every year through the television and radio? Black people? No, the same white jews who funded him and the NAACP.

Well, he was a good speaker and wanted rights for blacks. But integration what messed up black communities. black people tried so hard to get whites to like them and they still were discriminated against. even now in 2010 blacks are still discriminated.
they should’ve went on with their lives without begging for white validation.
