GUESS WHO: PLAYING CATCH IN MIAMI
Guess who was spotted playing catch with his son in Miami on Thursday afternoon. Hint: He released a new music video last month.
It’s Spike Lee! He and his son, Jackson, threw a baseball around while vacationing at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami.
Spike recently directed the music video for Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” and is developing a sequel to Inside Man, scheduled for release later this year.

Those two men have totally different bodies of work and Tyler Perry’s films are money making project but some of his films lack something. To each its own.

I’m not going to into him dissing Tyler Perry, but it’s great to see a black father spending time with his son. We don’t get to see that too often in these times. (Sidebar: I want those Beats (headphones) his son is rocking.)
What did he say about Tyler? I’m not a fan either, but it seems to me like Spike is becoming an old bitter man lately, when you see them interviewing him, even how he reacts to common folks on the street. I don’t get that but whatever.
What he said about Tyler Perry was a matter of his own opinion. I like Tyler Perry, but I also side with Spike on this one. Madea in a couple of movies was funny, Madea in three movies is bafoonery.
There could possibly be some jealousy, that Tyler is way more successful, but again, I’m siding with Spike. Since when do people think that they are free from people not feeling their work.
Spike might have a light skin wife. But Tyler Perry who claims to be a Christian is shacking up with a young girl that`s young enough to be his daughter and he claims that he is a Christan . This is why so many people have a negative image of religion and he is constantly telling people in his movies that they need Jesus ! Not only does he make coon movies but Tyler is a major hypocrite !
They seem to both be hypocrites in the light of day so rather than arguing they need to hypothesise rather than criticise and come up with something that would be ideal. At the end of the day images and TV have an impact on a child’s mind and I am sure as black people we want better for the children. Or at least a better perspective, coonery needs to be dead..
we need more positive images like these…its 2010!!!!!!!!!

I too share some of his insight on Tyler’s choice to continue the coon machine. His first attempt at stepping away from that, The Family That Preys, was a brightspot.
I suppose as a businessman you need the cash-cows Madea, House of Payne (which improved vastly with the addition of Calvin/Miranda’s marriage/pregnancy), and Meet the Browns to fund the “other” projects. I’d like to see a ramp-up in the “other” projects.
Tyler, like Lee is a hustle and as any real hustler knows you have to keep the product fresh.
The reason why I don`t like Tyler Perry is because he steals his material and characters for his Movies from the old Martin Lawrence TV Show from back in the day. The Madea character that Tyler Perry plays is a blatant ripoff of Martin Lawrence when he would put a wig on and play Momma Payne. Perry watches a lot of tapes of the Martin Show and has stolen a lot of Martin`s stuff and put it in his movies. Say what you will about Spike Lee but at least Spike is original and does not steal other peoples stuff.

tyler perry is wack and not creative as a director or artist. he loves cross dressing as a woman and has the same themes every damn movie.
tyler perry needs to do some research and get some education bc by the portrayal of his characters and movies he is ignorant.

Yes I was kind of put off by Spike Lee comments on Tyler Perry but I still have respect for the man. As far as Tyler Perry ripping off Martin Lawrence I really don’t see the comparison at all. I never seen Martin mom carrying guns and talking about taking people to the 9th Ward. To me Madea is more of a hood and ghetto grandma and Martin mom was just a crazy overprotective nutcase but they were very different in my perspective.
