A clash-of-cultures comedy, Our Family Wedding centers on two overbearing fathers, played by Forest Whitaker and Carlos Mencia, who must put aside their differences to plan the wedding of their son (Lance Gross) and daughter (America Ferrera) in less than two weeks. I don’t look at Hispanic and Black couples as interracial dating, we are both minorities……I never understood why we had problems with each other…..Hispanics to me (Puerto Rican, Mexican, Cuban) are black people to me that speak spanish…….
Yas! This will be a great movie to see. Many of my favorite actors are in this. It’s great to see two young actors as America and Lance star in a moive rather than just be a member of the family or a best friend to the main character.
This trailer had me laughing the entire time !!! So I will DEFINITELY go see this movie…if it comes to my city *LOL*. I do not live in a major city (our population is about 150,000 and less then a 3% black population) and we do not always get the ‘black’ movies. We just got Precious about 3 weeks ago !!!
But back to this movie – I will definitely go see it !!! My only hiccup about this movie is why did they choose Regina King to play Lance’s mother – they look the same age, her and Lance do. So I think an actress that looked more like Forrest’s age would have been a better fit. But maybe Regina is a step-mom – guess I will see when I see the movie

We are our own worst enemy. We are not progressive mentally. All we do is complain, complain, complain….. This move is for abstract thinkers, progressives. It uses two minority groups that are survivors. One thread, said how racist Mexicans are towards blacks. Well living in the south I have seen many blacks rob and murder hard working Mexicans b/c they are lazy bombs. We need to start being honest with ourselves or else we will continue to be the jokes of the world. Sad to say, give it a couple of generations, and Mexicans will be way ahead ahead of AA, just like every other minority.

Gosh its 2010, move on and look at the positive side that atlease there is african americans and hispanics in a movie. That is the reason why the majority of black people are not moving anywere because our mentality is stuck in the past and so on.
In all honesty i dont really blame you i guess its because my parents are African so they have taught me my background and tradition from the beginning, so because i know my background i dont let any of this sort of stuff faze me because its just a movie.
If your so upset about them pointing out that there is no tradition in our communities then do some research. Look at the Africans (that alot of you laugh at when they come over) they dont come to another country and drop there tradition, they raise there kids up and do things just like they would at home. Have you ever attended an African wedding/engagement? you will see all the culture there from the spraying of money on the brides, the dowry given and so on and so forth.
There is so much culture out there for you to learn but it is you yourself that does not want to accept it. Due to the fact that your not “African” you “African American” so you dont accept “African culture” Therefore ofcourse you will have no African American traditions because some hate to admit where we are originally from.
Mexicans have there tradition because when they came here they did not leave it behind they continued it here.
Anyway i dont know why i went into a big huff over this, the film looks quite funny and if it comes out here in London i will be sure to watch it.

Ive always wanted to understand this seen as alot, of blacks tend to turn down any form of connection to Africa. During the slave trade the majority of slaves were taken from Africa so i guess thats why i assumed that black people originated from Africa. But please seen as i am wrong can you correct me?

Also, I do not know the race of the screenwriter and will research that but many Caucasians and Hispanics do believe that African -Americans have not culture or traditions and honestly, with some, especially the inner city and new generation, it can be seen as true. Talk about AA because Afro-Brazilians have macumba, capoeira, samba, dishes, religious feasts… these are straight from their African roots. Brazilian is a mix of Portuguese with some African words and other languages it’s the same with Afro-Cubans/Dominicans with La Santeria which is an African religion…African slaves who were in Spanish countries and Brazil (ONLY) WERE “ALLOWED” TO RETAIN (MORE THAN A MICROCOSM) THEIR CULTURE THEY DID WITH WHAT THEY HAD but we can say Caribbean countries like Haiti with Vaudoo have something from their African roots.

We were taught to erase all of our heritage, which is why we had to make our own Black American heritage (which we do have). Yes it’s not “African” or on some basis might even hold us back a little but it is ours nonetheless. But really Black folks it’s really time to move on. We have so much potential to be better is we just put up the extra foot forward. It may be difficult but not impossible.
