On Wednesday, President Barack Obama delivered his first State of the Union, announcing that job creation would be his administration’s top priority as well as moving forward with health care reform legislation.
The President, whose approval ratings have dropped about 20 percent since he took office last year, acknowledged his mistakes of the last twelve months, but said he felt strong he could deliver on the promises he made during the campaign:
“I campaigned on the promise of change — ‘change we can believe in,’ the slogan went. And right now, I know there are many Americans who aren’t sure if they still believe we can change — or at least, that I can deliver it. But remember this — I never suggested that change would be easy, or that I can do it alone.”
President Obama also called for a three-year freeze on all government spending other than national security and public insurance programs mandated by law like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, beginning next year. He also called out the Supreme Court for its reversal last week in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission that would allow a limitless amount of corporate funding in elections; Supreme Court justice Samuel Alito shook his head repeatedly and mouthed the words “not true” while the other justices appeared stone-faced and the rest of the chamber seemed to spring to its feet with applause.
Calling for both parties to work together on the nation’s challenges, the President said, “We do not give up. We do not quit. We do not allow fear or division to break our spirit. In this new decade, it’s time the American people get a government that matches their decency, that embodies their strength.”

I think Obama’s speech was great. But I don’t envy him at all. It’s impossible to change ANYTHING in Washington because the machine is all about that dollar & has been for the past few decades. Judah is right about the banks in the sense that corporate interests over the years have been very well-represented at the expense of the people’s. I country sold us out a loong time ago & although I believe Barack’s (and dare I say a few others) are well-intentioned, but they’re stuck. Trying to push real change via the govt. is not going to work because they’re operating in a political straight jacket with stone-walling politicians and special interest lobbying groups. I hope he finally takes bold actions with the banks, the health insurance companies, and Congress.

I didn`t watch the address last night nor did I view the video from above. I refused to listen to all The “AMERICAN PROPANGANDA” that was spewed last night. Obama is nothing more than a “FIGUREHEAD” for the most corrupt, unjust, criminal enterprise in the history of the world. I don`t care that`s he`s a brotha. Obama is only continuing to carry out the status quo of the wicked Government which is nothing more than AMERICAN IMPERIALISM. However, it has to be that way. How could a Black man become President in the most ruthless nation in the annuals of history unless he was politically in sync with the status quo…think about it.
Unless there`s a fundamental change, in the system, the face of that system doesn`t matter. It`s still the same criminal enterprise. I was reading one of my books on, my “HERO”, Brother Malcolm X a couple of days ago and he was asked if he would consider running for mayor in Harlem. Paraphrasing his answer, he replied, “I think I’m more effective attacking the system from the outside because on the inside you can`t say as much”. Obama is a politician who`s endorsed by The American Imperial System to continue the status quo.
Another observation that Brother Malcolm made was that he said, “When a man runs for President of The United States, he not only runs just for this nation but, the entire worldwide community of this colonial system has to accept him”. That`s true, as Sherlock Holmes said, “elementary, my dear Watson, elementary. I only wish that Brother Malcolm was here today to call Obama out for this continued racists agenda of The American Government. I supposed Obama said the reason for the troops in Afghanistan was to defeat The Terrorists.
The only Terrorist is The US Government. The US only mission is to place a PUPPETT in power and have a pipeline installed while robbing the country/people of their natural resource. It`s also an area that contains opium which the US wants to control as well. I know my independent thinking isn`t popular but I refuse to be led around on a leash by The US Government. What you see in Afghanistan, as well as globally, is REVOLUTION against this vicious, imperialist, wolf by the dark people all over the world. The REVOLUTIONARIES are no longer willing to sit by idly and let American corruption be the rule of the day.
Look at Africa today. Why is The US so concerned with The Mother Land if it is indeed savage? It is to continue their imperialistic policies by raping African of all it`s natural resources and raw materials, i.e., gold, copper, silver, uranium, oil, etc. The dark nations have grown weary of The White West so therefore Revolution is now the order of the day. What we, as Blacks in America, fail to understand is that a victory by our Brothers and Sisters abroad is a victory for us here in America. The recent Climategate emails prove the data has been skewed.Also, Al Gore, Mr. Global Warming himself, is a part owner in an oil company.
The whole sub prime mortgage thing was a rouse by the fed. gov’t (under Bush & Obama) to further send this country into the hole economically, driving the dollar down so that merging currency w/ other countries will be a natural progression.

I thought his speech last nite was okay, wish he would’ve been more specific on healthcare, but either way he talked about some important things last nite. Obama is very clear on what he says, I don’t see why people don’t get what he says, I really don’t. A LOT of people are upset that Pres. Obama is sending troops over to Afghanistan. For those upset do you really think we have a choice but not to go there? The last speech he gave before this one, when he spoke on foreign policy he laid his plan out, but y’all were more concerned with him sending troops there, thinking he’s starting another war when HE”S NOT. If you do research & look @ what he’s saying his plan makes sense. Basically sending the American troops there to build up Afghanistan’s security forces & government, for those 12-18 mnths, then they leave. They’re not fighting another war in Afghanistan there our allies & they asked for their help. Some say it’s a unrealistic time frame, but how do you know? Obviously Pres. Obama did his research & knows what he’s talkin about. So you don’t know what works or what’s not going to work.

I love Obama! I believed in him then and I beleive in him now! I’m a young 26yr old homeowner and I purchased that house back in 04′ when things were sugar sweet, out here in Chicago. But 07 was a haaaard year for me. And with the Bailout Bill that congress passed it has helped me and a few thousand homeowners stay in our homes and raise our children up there! The “Stimulus Bill” and the tax cuts have helped us all in some way or another. Be it your mother, brother, sister or uncle! Finally we’ve got someone in there who isnt all “Talk” who’s actually making shit happen and I’m eternally grateful for him. Childcare has been reduced, The un-employment rate here has dropped as well! He is a savior! And it’s also a plus to know that he’s got an intelligent, strong black woman on his team and in his ear. Whomever is against Obama is simply a jackass, or a racist pig! He’ll be our president for the next 4 yrs after this i guarantee it! He’s got more people that love him than hate him anyway. I would never want to be in Obamas position. It takes a strong person to realize you cannot please everyone, especially Americans. True the Switz’s health care plan is expensive which the readily admit, but the citizens also state they would never go back. Health care isn’t a one hit done deal. The only things I am backing are blessings from God which Obama is not. After all, it was until recently, he decided to be even referred to and officially called as Barack. He went as Barry his whole life trying to dismiss his biblical name. Obama does not fool me. He is just talk. He did not even state what he would change but used change as his slogan. I mean he could have been suggesting he would change his underwear or the men he would sleep with. Yea, I said it. Tell me why one of his lovers was found murdered in the same manner as the other two. He has not chemistry with Michelle and it is evident. But that is neither here nor there. I just wonder who told him or gave him the encouragement to be President. He is not even passionate or seem to care. He looks like he is in job training and is auditioning for the job. He is a pure joke and that should have been his slogan.

Also, his speech did not address the poor and lower class as well as those senior citizens or those without degrees who have been working at a job for more than 10 yrs and are being replaced by younger individuals or immigrants who will accept lower wages. The middle class? Greener jobs? Yes this is all dandy but talk about the real issues and those who are struggling. Start moving and acting instead of fluffing about and eloquently speaking. Since Sept/Oct 845,000 jobs have been lost. Get it together and make it happen. I mean you are the “president” right?

People complain about Obama, but he has put more money in certain programs (i.e., entrepreneurship programs in NYC) and certain social services programs and education in one year than any other president. I’ve benefitted from it. What I didn’t do was wait for him to send me a damm letter on knock on my door. When he talks, I listen and then I research. You will find what you need to know.
I have told plenty of my friends and family how to do it. Well, it’s like beating a dead horse.
Yes, there is racism in this country, we know it better than anyone else. But I bet you any amount of money that if the Haitians get to this country after their devastating lives back home, they will find out, work hard and do what they have to do and next thing you know they will have a house and TWO businesses.

Bill Clinton gets praise because he had the economy working, but when he got into office, his approval rating by whites was the same as Obamas. But he wound up doing two terms. Even with welfare reform, he had the people off the dole, but not even at a respectable living wage. People, whether rich or not should be able to live in this country. But as long as everyone can buy their flat screens, big ass cars that you DON’T need, and fly homes while up to your ass in debt, everything is everything.
Better yet, would you have preferred no neck McCain to be our president right now? I COULD HAVE WENT THAT WAY. Remember, the other americans didn’t vote him in because the mortgage industry completely collapsed. Then they wanted a brother to help them out and help save them from losing their homes. OTHERWISE we would have damm sure had McCain as PRESIDENT!
I love my people but we HAVE to wake up. How many of you are looking into green jobs? Or getting your own businesses? Or singing up to go back to school because he has put money into the system.
