I knew it was her. There are not many black actresses that would fall within the hint: “Hint: She has three films due out this year.” It is very sad but true, the only black actresses I could think of was her, S. Lathan, or Halle Berry but in the first pic it looked like Zoe Saldana so I’m glad I’m right.

@ #23 There are black, white and multiracial Dominicans, since her skin and features look of African descent people view her as black.

@Pamela Martha Focker dominicans consider themselves HISPANIC not spanish-those are two different things and hispanic is a culture, an ethnicity-not a race so you can be of any race and be hispanic. zoe not only looks black but considers herself black. a black hispanic/black dominican of course (her ethnicity is just as important as her race b/c it says a lot about her background as well)

That’s an excellent cover. It evoked many mental aspects on many different levels. Most black people will not see it though because they’ll be too busy worshiping this cokehead wh*re because she gets to pose next to a white man. Notice that she is depicted as wild, though protective of her master, while he is not embracing her at all. In other words, she is a paradigm for how the white man views the black woman in Western culture. She is a pawn to be used to destroy her own people, a sex slave who will be repayed for her devotion by being allowed to attain fame. It’s reminiscient of the Lebron James magazine cover with Giselle Bunchen where he played King Kong set to ravish the white woman. Again, most of these black people are so obtuse and outright stupid that they merely do the pose commanded of them by the photographer because they’re so happy that a white person wants to photograph them, not understanding the underlying theme of the composition of the photo.

@Judah, I don’t usually agree with your analysis. But…It left me a bit cold when I glanced at the pic and noticed he wasn’t embracing her at all. It’s almost like she isn’t there. I don’t think it’s a racial issue…more sexist.
There are often photos where the woman is draped all over the man, while he stares ahead, completely unacknowledging the female(s). Like in Robert Pattinson’s latest photoshoot with the naked models or the Beyonce is all over Jay in her videos, and he doesn’t look at her. I think It’s supposed to establish the masculinity and desirability of the male in question, but nothing much deeper than that.

What one sees is usually predicated by how they think. You stress the sexism because that is the battle that you feel is the most important one to be waged. That is how the black woman has been trained, to think like the white woman and believe that the man is her enemy. That is another topic. The movie had racial and cultural undertones, and as the photo is meant to be a mini-microcosm of the movie, why wouldn’t it have those same undertones? When asked why there weren’t many “black people” in his movies, James Cameron responded by saying that in his movies the black people are “all blue”. She is taking a protective stance towards him in the photo, motherly as much as being a wife. This is to convey that the black woman has been well-trained to aid and protect the white man in his affairs, no matter how blatant his wickedness. Notice he wears all black while she is naked with iridescent markings. She looks directly forward even though her body is at an awkward angle to do so. The left side of his face is obscured even though he is in a much easier position to look directly forward. It is because he is soul-less but he has seduced a naturally righteous creature into siding with him against her own.

The Spanish people are in Spain idiot! The Dominicans were the slaves of the Spanish for hundreds of years and looking at this woman there is nothing SPANISH about her except her Spanish last name which was the surname of her ancestors slavemasters.
She needs to start playing only Hispanic roles then because when the Hollywood producers look ate her wide nose, black complexion and big lips they don’t see Dominica they see a black woman regardless of her nationality. If Zoe was back home she would not get any roles because she would be considered too dark.

Whoever said this woman was Spanish had better pick up a history book, or better yet, learn their colors. Just because you speak Spanish doesn’t make you Spanish. The Spaniards of Europe were never slaves but the Dominicans were. The Spanish did not enslave the Spanish and import them from Spain, they imported slaves from Africa. Money, education and class can make dark-skinned Dominicans be perceived as more White, but Zoe looks white nowhere. And by the way, the country’s Taino Indians were virtually annihilated in the 1500′s, shortly after Spanish slave holders arrived.
