It wasn’t what I was expecting but i I like it. It’s a very pretty song.
His voice is refreshing. I actually really like it. Its mellow, not thumping. I can dig it very well. Good stuff. Can’t wait to hear more from him. Dare I say it…he uncommercializes it and makes it his and its almost sounding like good R&B! lol

Love! I HONESTLY do not like the original! I’m pretty sure it has something to do with my level of distaste for the two people singing it! Mateo is awesome…He needs to release a full length album.

I have to agree with 13. COSIGN COSIGN COSIGN!!! However, having said that, both versions, Alicia’s and this dude’s are cool. Good to mix it up. Radio sure been “beating” Jay’s original, but that’s cool too. It’s NY, NY, . . . where dreams are made . . . .
Dude sounds great, hope he can stay true to his sound in this game full of leeches

I like Mateo but his version of ESOM does nothing for me.
I like Alicia’s part on the original but I don’t like Rap so I didn’t enjoy JayZ on the track. In my opinion Alicia’s chorus made that song a hit.

I love it…you got a fast version, and you got a slow version…very refreshing, like a breath of cool, fresh wind! I think he did a great job by not using the same beat, but doing something unique and different! He has a great voice by the way….

i love it!! it’s classy and sexy. i love his songs…such agood voice.
Really digging this. I can’t say I if I think it’s better than the original because (a) I’m a huge Mateo fan who’s been dying for some new music from him (gotta see what happens with his girl and her twin from his underneath the sky short films that accompany his albums) and (b) if I hear Empire State of Mind one more time, I’m pushing Alicia Keys and Jigga off the aforementioned named building!
So I may just like this because I’m sick of the original, but real spit: whatever mic and pre-amp Mat’s using, he needs to never use anything else. His voice sits in whatever mix he’s on PERFECTLY!

It’s not bad, pretty mellow. He style reminds me of Craig David (whatever happened to him?)
HOWEVER, what makes the original song stand out are all the references of what makes New York, New York.

Although I have to say, I think the video was not as good as it could have been, I feel that Hype just got lazy.
