Music’s biggest stars gathered at Jim Henson Studios on Los Angeles on Monday (February 1st) to re-record the iconic 1985 charity single, “We Are the World.” In celebration of the song’s 25th Anniversary various stars including, Jennifer Hudson, Kanye West, Usher, will. i.am, Brandy, Toni Braxton, Barbra Streisand, LL Cool J, Wyclef Jean, India.Arie, Lil Wanye and more turned out for the recording to raise money for relief efforts in Haiti.
“This one, the enthusiasm, I’ve never seen anything like it,” says Lionel Richie, who co-wrote the original song with Michael Jackson, and oversaw the new version with music legend Quincy Jones.
The video is expected to be released in a couple weeks. Also, it was reported that Jay-Z, Janet Jackson and Lady Gaga would be lending their voices too.
On Tuesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominations for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards. Precious is up for six Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actress in a Leading Role for Gabourey Sidibe, Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Mo’Nique and Best Directing for Lee Daniels. Precious film editor Joe Klotz is also up for the Film Editing Oscar.
In addition, Morgan Freeman was nominated for his portrayal of Nelson Mandela in Invictus, and the Disney film The Princess and Frog is up for Best Animated Feature.
The Oscars will air Sunday, March 7, on ABC. Congratulations & good luck to the nominees!
After not so much success for his first single, “Take Your Shirt Off,”singer/songwriter/producer, T-Pain teams up with Young Jeezy for his second single, “Reverse Cowgirl.”
The new track comes from T-Pain’s upcoming fourth studio album, RevolveR, which is set to hit stores March 30th.
Check out this throwback photo of public speaker/human rights activist Malcolm X taking a photograph of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali right after he beat Sonny Liston in Feb. of 1964; gaining the ‘heavyweight championship of the world’ title. Ali was surrounded by fans in a small diner in Miami, Florida.
Less than a year later, Malcolm X would be gunned down while giving a speech in New York City. Great photos.
